Hey guys, my parents are throwing around the idea of helping me getting an evo (ill make payments but they will co-sign and w/e) if I get rid of my 1g and parts. I was just curious as to what you paid (w/ millage, model, mods ect), how much your insurance is, ect any info you could give me would be great.

thanks

$23,000 WW 05 RS
Came with about $4,000+ in higher quality toys.

It had about 22,000 miles on it. About a buck a mile. Not too bad lol...

I pay $471 a month. $120 in insurance. I have meh credit, so so interest rate... (credit union)

Car was in better than new condition. It had a single stone chip. Literally. Came with Buschur FMIC & pipes, Forge Bov, full Buschur 3" exhaust, HKS 272's, 255, Evo VII tails, full pro tint job, tein lowering springs, GReddy gauges, and Innovate WB & gauge ($1000 worth of gauges there) CF gauge pods... JMF heat shield... Evo Dave head lights... small battery kit & mini batt... CF air diverter panel... oh hallman pro mbc... buschurs filter kit.

Honestly... it was too good to pass up. I pay the $500 + ins a month but every day I get to walk down to the car I always wanted. And it does NOT fucking dissappoint. Never. Ever. Not even a little bit. People say this and that... its not that great. STFU. YES IT IS.

If I could have 5 more I would. As far as trading a 1G for it... I'd blink and it would be on a flatbed. With me waving.

Luckily I don't have to choose. I basically sold my DSM to help pay for the Evo but ended up picking up another super cheap to just toy with. But the other DSM funded that. And I still paid down the Evo a bit.

If I had to choose - Evo. Hands down. But luckily I don't. Cause I got an awful lot of DSM'in to do yet.

Buy the Evo. Life will put another DSM in your path when the time comes.

Well, I went down this road a little while ago- I was going to put 10k down on a White IX. I found out that I could afford the monthly payments, and everything seemed right with the world.

Until, I got my insurance quote.

Since it was financed, I needed full coverage. It's not cheap.
I priced a few places, the cheapest was State Farm and I was quote 480 a month, for insurance...
Other places like All State and Progressive, wanted, over 600 a month.

Needless to say, when you have an insurance payment higher than your car payment- there is something wrong - so I ended up not buying it.

For the record: A 2005 Corvette is cheaper for insurance for me than a 2005 Evo, of the same mileage... I don't get it! As much as I'd like to get an Evo, a Vette is just more practical, moneywise.

2006 Evo IX

Bought it new with 11 miles on the clock for 34,000 out the door.

Put down 6 grand, financed 28k, my payments are 480 a month with a crappy bank insurance rate because my credit isn't too good.

I was originally paying 280 a month for insurance on a clean record, then got two speeding tickets within 3 months of each other and it went up to 370 a month...ouch!

But then I switched insurance companies; went from Grange to AAA, and they saved me 110 bucks a month...I'm now paying 260 a month with the tickets, which will be off my record soon, so my rate will drop even more!

So I'm looking at ~750 a month. I can swing it and still have mod money, gf money, bar money, etc.

SO WORTH IT!

2006 Evo IX MR

Bought it brand spanking new. It was one of only 5 Wicked White Evo's left on the east coast when I bought in Winter of 2006. Drove a 100 miles to the dealership to get it. It also had the lowest miles on the clock of any Evo within a 300 mile radius. Most Evo's had average of 10-25 miles.
It had 7 miles on the clock, I paid 33,100 before Tax, Title, Freight, Registration etc. Included Student Rebate Discount and Loyalty Bonus (Having 4 Mitsubishi's helped)
After all was said and done, it cost me 38K out the door.
I put absolutely nothing down. Not even a cent.

I had initially financed it through the dealership, 5.5% interest, 72 month deal. Payments were $625 a month.
Insurance is about $200 a month, full coverage with $250 deductible.

Currently though the car is no longer financed through the dealership. A few months after buying the car, I used my home's equity and payed off the car.
Currently payments on the loan are about 350 dollars a month, but I usually pay $1000 each month.
The reasoning behind switching the loan is that the car no longer has a lien on it, I can sell it at anytime, I can even get liability insurance for it if I feel like it.
Also the interest on my home equity loan is tax deductible, so essentially the loan is very close to being interest free. Plus I have 10 years to pay it off, or the guy who buys my house will pay it off.

The Evo is arguably THE MOST EXPENSIVE car to insurance Period!
Mostly due to the fact that it attracts of a ton of attention, most people think they're god when behind the wheel (mainly because it does give you that feeling that you can defy the laws of physics) and also because of it's high theft rate.
The car in pieces is worth a lot. I've heard many stories of their car getting broken into and finding the seats, steering wheel missing.
Heck my Evo has been broken into 3 times, they actually tried to steal the car the 3rd time.

$27k for my '06 IX SE with 15k miles on it, including a few grand worth of aftermarket parts. Previous owner was a friend and bought the car new less than a year ago.

Financed a good chunk of that through a credit union @ 5.5%. My payments are currently $350 a month. No penalty for paying off the loan early so I might drop some more towards that and lower my monthly payments even more.

Insurance through AAA is $1671 a year (full coverage). That's after it went up $200 when I pulled the DSM off the insurance and lost my discount. :(

Bought mine January 2007, brand new 9 miles (well 11 after the sales guy got back from filling it up) $30.2k before tax, title, license, etc.

I put $5k down, payments are $525 a month 68 months 5.999%, insurance (originally under my mother) was about $200/month including coverage on my eclipse where i'm the primary driver. The insurance company changed so now it's $1k every six months for both cars and the insurance company doesn't assign a primary to any of the vehicles. I have (had) a clean record through all this time, I now have 2 points but insurance has yet to change because of it. The evo will be staying on that policy until I get married next year then it will be insured under the wifey to save some $$$ Oh and insurance sucks in NJ so take it fwiw

How are these cars for daily drivers anyhow?

I currently have my Mustang as my 'toy', my GST as my 'winter car' and my T/A as my 'summer driver'.

It's too many. I want to eliminate the T/A and the GST and replace it with a driver I can use all year around. I wanted a 350z, but I don't think that is going to fly with winter. C5 idea is shot down from gas milage.....either will suck the ballsack in snow.

EVO or STi seems like a good choice as a daily. I hate FWD, so that is out. We get snow.....LOTS of it. I just wish they didn't look so 'fast and furious' in terms.

I could pony up 10k cash pretty easy and just get a 10k or less loan on the rest...I think that'd prolly be my best way to fly.

So whatre you guys seeing for milage etc...?

I would "pony up" and do it now, but I'm going to save and have a decent size chunk of change to go with the loan. That way I can have lower payments. I checked with our insurance company and to add it to the "family" it would be another 1060/6 months. For liability its only 12 more a month than 1.8l eclipse lulz.

The blue one that buschur is selling, looks like a good deal, I just dont like the aftermarket color (or it looked like one), stock colors FTW.

I got a killer deal on an 05 MR for 25,000 before tax tag and title. After all was said and done it cost me around 28,500. Insurance on the other hand is rediculace. I have tickets so I was expecting it to be bad but not the 380 a month. If you don't have a bad driving record its not that bad but damn if you do. Other than that get it. It is so worth the cost. I have litterally raped countless cars that just look at you thinking the car is slow and I stomp em. M3, corvettes, mustangs gt's, don't stand a chance if you learn to drive it right.

Yeah I don't like the blue too much either but its cheap and has quality parts.
Similar to how mine came. And I have to be honest they work.

Honestly as far as d/d - mine is. I put 12,000 miles on it in about 6 months. Gas mileage is meh. Typical AWD stuff. It was part of the reason I yanked the stock turbo. The dual scroll 16g is a consta-insta boosty turbo. Take it off and get something bigger and my 100 mile trip went from a little more than a half tank... to a little more than a 1/4 tank. So 2X's mpg. Even with 850's and me speeding almost constantly. Something I personally just can't help.

In comparison to a gst and a t/a... its 10x better d/d. I winter dutied mine this year and the evo is completely dependant on its tires. Get good tires. Evo is great. Have so so tires... its too rear biased'y. And makes cornering on slush a butt puckering affair.

As far as reliability. I haven't had a single issue with it yet. Considering the mods I have on it, 100% stock motor, cams... and how I can't help but open the dump up every time I drive it. Its night and day from my DSM's. I'm sure eventually it will become a more expensive version of one. But if you start with a healthy specimen- these things have NA like dependability.

The ride is better than my last DSM. And my Evo is almost tucking the front wheels on stock struts/tein springs. And my DSM was stock. And I live in PA.
Answer your question? :D

RS come over and drive mine.
If you hate the F&TF look get an "RS" :P That solves that. Then dump the stock tails or paint them black inside. No big wing, no altezza's. You'd be surprised how much it calms it down. These are VII tails. I like them because they look like a stock tail light.

i love mine as a dd being in the northeast and having to deal with snow in the winter. I've got kumho ecsta asx's on the car and it's more grip than i'll ever try to use in dry conditions and performed through all the snow i drove it through this year without any problems. I've never had an awd car so it was great in comparison to my fwd eclipse in the snow.

As for gas mileage, mine's bone stock i.e. not even a tune to help out and I have averaged just a hair over 22mpg over my last 16k miles

So right now I'm 18, sick of my broken GSX, and getting ready for college. I got a scholarship that pays for 100% tuition and room and board. Also, this scholarship lets me keep 75% of any other scholarships/aid (CASH). I'm thinking about taking a 10k student loan and putting 5k down on an EVO. I make a decent amount over the summer and I've got a gsx to get rid of. I'm guessing I'll have about 20k by the end of this summer (if I get the loan). 5k down on the car + 5k saved for payments and insurance from the loan. Also, I'll have about 10k saved from my gsx and summer savings (at least). This doesnt include the cash I'll receive from my other scholarships. Insurance will be in my grandma's name so it will DEFFINITELY be under $200. So say $200+$350(payments)= $550 at the most. 9 mos a year at school= $4950. Just under 5k :) in paying for the car. Figure 1k on maintenance (tires!) so I'm looking at 6k a schoolyear to own the car of my dreams. (I probably make 8k-10k in the summer) Do these sound realistic? My only real concern is reliability. I can fix just about anything on a DSM and in all honesty I drive like an old lady most of the time. So is it EVO for the win or a Honduh for the college kid?

Thanks and sorry for the essay.

You guys have convinced me to buy an Evo, after I JUST rebuild my #@$#)*$ GSX, and it knocks about 300 miles into the break-in period. I'll be moving to Florida soon too, so anyone know insurance rates in FL? Pensacola to be specific, when I went down for vacation I didn't see ANY Evo's, and only one STI. I'm a little late but I got my Evo brand new with 6 miles on it for $34k OTD with the SSL package. I traded in my old SRT-4 for it and didn't put any money down. With a 5.5% interest rate and 72month term I was paying around $572 a month. My insurance was $154 a month when I had my old pickup truck.

I refinanced the Evo when I bought a newer DD so I took out another loan for $24,500 (amount I owed) with a 6.5% apr for 60months and it dropped my payment to $475 a month. This was with an added on GAP insurance through the credit union. Since I've paid off the DD, I keep making the payment for it towards the Evo.

Thing with the Evo is that it is fairly expensive to maintain. Between tires (stock ones don't last very long), oil changes, tranny/tcase fluid changes, clutches, etc... it can get expensive.

With all that said, I would buy the same car again if I had the chance. I love driving the car around on the weekends through the country roads. It's definitely worth the money. Hope it helps :tree:

It's funny how a sport's car can actually be the 'practical choice' I wanted a 350z since they came out (still do) since they're absolutely amazing looking, but the 4 doors and the awd of the evo for the winter time were HUGE selling points in the practicality category for me. Running into one in my brother's ls1 helped matters a little too :D

RSbeast
04-14-2008, 01:34 AM
If I didn't already have one built V8 car, I would be dead torn with a ls1 WS6/vette

Ohio winters blow. I went through like a weeks worth in my LT1 car. It wasn't so much the driving sideways everywhere, but you got stuck EVERYWHERE. Ever try to make it up an unplowed ohio 180 degree onramp? Better be doing at least around 40mph before you hit it, sideways and COMMITTED. Tokyo drift ain't got shit on NE Ohio winters in an fbody lolol. :D

Thus, rwd is out. Along with my 350z idea :( I don't even care if theyre slow. But if I'm paying on a car, its gotta be an all season gig. FWD is out, and I'd rather get something that's not a DSM, though a 97-99 GSX MIGHT just fit the bill w/o a carpayment. No one really makes any AWD cars that excite me other than the EVO/Sti. I'd rather the EVO.

Plus gas cost. I put $15 like every other day in my T/A driving like a grandma. A 6spd 4cyl would do me wonders. Over 5 yrs, I'd save half of the car cost alone from gas savings. Highway wouldn't change much, but city driving the t/a kinda kills it. I will SO miss the looks (black t/a + chrome zr1's with 315s out the back + 6spd + t-tops = rolling sex). The evo is 'ok' in the looks dept for me. Its boxy 4dr fun. They are agressive enough to be cool though. I wonder if I'd catch the same shit from the cops I get driving my GST with an evo.

Bah. I hate winter. I'd rather spend 20k on a c5 zo6. Growing up is gay.

Well, I have come to appreciate my LT1 (picked it up at a steal of a price). Its fun since i can do donuts and piss people off from the loud exhaust. It gets better gas mileage(25+ from a v8 6spd) than the DSM and I beat the piss out of it. Its also way more reliable than the DSM. I would though love to have an Evo to replace my eagle. I can say the only nice thing about jersey is there's so many damn cars, troopers are too lazy to stop you for doing anything less than 15+ over the limit. They know anything less is only a 2 pt ticket that most could get reduced to just a fine and in 5 minutes someone will come along doing 20+ over so they don't bother

Holy thread revival batman. :D

I paid $14.6k for my 03gsr in bby. Body was absolutely mint. Made me think it was in some sort of accident since most have at least rock chips on the front. Needless to say all the body panels we're original(vin sticker) and the carfax was clean. Mechanically it had a whiney transfer case and thats why i got this steal on it.

It had a light list of mods including: arp headstuds, exedy twin hd, tein basic coils, 10.5 evo9 turbo, carbon hood, tre transfer case, powerslot rotors, hawk hps pads.

What i didn't like about the car: everything was reverted to stock. I found evidence of: gauges, tbe, fuel pump, fmic, meth, turbo, mbc, aem ems, wideband. And god knows what else. But for the price i couldn't resist.

Now for the deal. I put 3k down which brought my total financed to 11.6k. Over 48mo i'm paying $460/mo. Ouchh!!!! Also my insurance is about 100/mo but thats because mommy came to the rescue lol.

Needless to say the things you'll do for an evo. Plus by the time i'm out of school the car will be paid off and my credit will be looking preety good.
