So many people would like to know what the Green Monster has in it. The real question is, what HASN'T been in it. I am going to cut to the heart and soul of my DSM building experience.
A DSM enthusiast turned into a DSM guinea pig when I got my 1st 1G.
The old champagne gold talon. It was a 90 tsi awd, and came into my hands via a tragic event. I let a friend drive me home while I was drunk, and he was doing a pull which landed my red fwd laser into a cement filled pole.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj119/4G63Junkie/Just%20for%20talk/40b46c2c.jpg
I got the talon through him as a replacement. Long story short, it ran low 12s on a stock shortblock, an HRC 20GH, 880s, 100 octane and alcohol injection. I of course had the usual DSM things such as a 3 inch exhaust, wires, and GM Maft, data logger, 2600, 255hp, johnny racecar FMIC, etc. I soon popped that motor and freshened up the tired motor with new bearings, bored .040 over, crower springs and retainers, arp studs, and more boost.
Being a cheap bastard, and always looking for a technical "build not bought" challenge presented my DIY/custom/homemade mistake manifold. I have been a fan of alcohol injection since day one, and took it a step further with a direct port meth setup. It is controlled via DSMlink to this day and ran many 11 second passes, and opened up the upper RPM band by a significant amount at the high 11 second power level. Not too shabby if I dont say so myself.

The car went through a transfer case in high eleven second trim. This was after NUMEROUS hard launches and many, MANY occasions of wheel hop. I was all smiles when I busted it because it was the first time I ever went through a tcase. It served a very abused life, and I was glad to see it go.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj119/4G63Junkie/Just%20for%20talk/9ccf4da7.jpg
Soon after I cracked the mounting tab or "ear" off the block. I arc welded it back on using Ni-Rod and it went on to run high elevens again.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj119/4G63Junkie/Just%20for%20talk/508ddd7a.jpg
Not satisfied with the HRC 20G-H I set out for something bigger. I abused my HRC 20gH for 4 years, it never saw less that 20 psi its first year, and ran around 25 psi for the remaining 3 years of its life. Granted the car was down about 6 months of the year, but hanging off the 4G63 has to put some wear and tear on it right?
Over time I ended up with a buschur stage 3 shortblock, 1600s, -6 lines from pump to rail, DSMlink, Blitz DSBC boost controller, blitz TT, GM MAFT, FP2s, direct port meth, a real front mount intercooler, short route piping, and high 11s all day on 24 psi. I finally nutted up, cranked up the boost to 30 psi and 11.4 on 110 octane on the HRC 25GH.... still, I was not satisfied. The car was getting more and more "ghetto".
I was looking for a fresh start at this point and I found it.
A local DSMr and now friend (Mahesh Rao), was parting with his parts car. Not just any parts car, a clean shell with uncracked glass, and all body panels in tact. It had no engine or drivetrain. The interior had no seats in it either. It was perfect.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj119/4G63Junkie/Just%20for%20talk/fab7ff97.jpg
This was it. I emailed him instantly and offered him a 12 pack of corona, and somehow I ended up throwing in a Viscous coupling as well. I picked it up the following weekend and brought her home.

I swapped everything over from the champagne talon, and held onto it for as long as I could...then finally scrapped it. It was like loosing a child really. I never felt so attached to something non human :(
The help I recieved from the crew helped me get the Green monster on the road in 3 months. Just in time for the local CMI event at Sac raceway.
I ordered a 35r through FFTec and was hoping for the best. The shakedown passes weren't that impressive, but it was a start. 11.7 on 23 psi with 91 octane and meth injection. I let it rest for a bit due to clutch issues, and other small problems (leaking headgasket, solid lifters unscrewing themselves and making valves kiss each other) and rebuilt again.
I dropped off my motor at full function and the engine was machined by Robs in hayward. 5 miles into the break in, and about 15 minutes of running time led me to spin rod bearings number 1 and 2. I pulled the motor out that same weekend, and brought it back to FFTec for a tear down. We never really reached a conclusion as to why they spun. That aside, I received the utmost help from the team at FFtec. A couple weeks later, we had the shortblock rebuilt and back in the car.
I acquired a venom intake manifold with a mustang TB from a local DSMr and company co-owner Kamil from Hi-Rev. I hated to drill 4 holes in the bottom of it but that direct port meth was something I was never letting go of.
After going through a "freshen up" I put everything back in and ran low 11s on 2 gallons of 100 octane mixed in with 7 gallons of 91, as well as the meth. Very happy with the progress, I ran that motor for a month of weekend abuse on the highway, as well as the track. The trap speeds were there for that 10 second pass, but traction and money were limited. I managed an 11.012 @ 133 spinning through 1st and part of 2nd.
In early October that 2nd rebuild decided to quit on me. I spun rod bearing #1. Ready to throw in the towel, I explored my options.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj119/4G63Junkie/S5030657.jpg
I was looking into getting a datsun 510, and throwing a SBC in it. I was seriously considering getting out of the DSM scene, more than I ever have.
Sick of all the issues, the down time, the parts that break, the leaks, the headaches, and all the usual DSM things.
I thought of one last thing; the raw power the 4G63 produces. That feeling of being THROWN into your seat. It was all worth it again, especially the build. Welding, cutting, fabbing, bleeding, aching the day after a long night up till 6am with my honda buddies and crew friends. It was always a learning experience. In the end it was all going to be alright.
I talked to Jake (evil eagle) about a possible shortblock build. It would have happened but plans changed, and time went by.
I settled on a local machine shop that has build experience beyond my wildest dreams. Recommended by domestic owners, and almost every other breed of car out there, I settled on Daves engine and machining (Mopar engines west).
I spoke with Angie, and told her my goals. 30psi, right off the bat and possibly a small shot of nitrous. All on unleaded fuel, plus a healthy dose of methanol.
I selected Groden aluminum rods, topped off with Mahle pistons. Everything glides on ACL race coated bearings. A Kiggly girdle secured the main caps while ARPs held it together. I made sure to run the ARP L19 head studs, and took the advice of Angie and ran a Cometic Headgasket. I had a bad taste in my mouth from the Cometic years ago, but ran it anyways. Everyone deserves 2nd chances right?
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj119/4G63Junkie/groden%20rods/S5030683.jpg
A month went by, and Dave's delivered. Getting ready to start mating things together, me and my friends decided to sharpie up the piston tops.

That whole month while the motor was in the machine shop, I went to work on an SW Racecars 10 point roll cage. It was one of the hardest things I have done to this DSM. My brother has been welding for about 15 years, and gave me a quick 10 minute lesson on how to bust decent beads using his millermatic 185.

It was a week long project, on my first cage. Grinding, cutting, welding, measuring. Making sure everything was to spec for my height and size.

I decided the car needed a different look. Something that was cheap, quick and dirty. I headed down to my local OSH, and started looking at colors. I didn't want to rattle can the whole car, I needed something that could be sprayed. Settling on a hunter green shade, I started to prep the body.

I ended up spraying the paint on a warm sunday afternoon at about 1:30. I was waiting on the fire dept. to swing by and ask me what I was doing spray painting a car in my driveway? I had the air compressor running full blast, and the spray gun spewing paint all over the place. I was ready to show them that I was spraying a water based latex paint. You heard that right.
Giggle all you want, here she is. $20 for 2 quarts of paint and I only used one.

After wrapping up the engine install, redoing some wiring, and finishing up the cage it was time for a break in. I followed the previous steps of breaking in the engine, and set off to do a hard break in. I pulled timing, set the boost low at 20 psi and had a fresh 5 gallons of 100 octane in her. A few half throttle rips brought a warm feeling that I almost forgot. I was in love with boost all over again. Drove her back home, and changed the oil again. 20w50 VR1 went in, as well as a fresh set of BPR8ES's.
I turned on the meth, raised the boost and went out to get a rough tune. This friday night was going to make or break the CMI event. I did a few rips and settled on 30 psi out of the 35r, and the tune was prety safe. The car was ready for the local CMI event.
My oldest brother Angel wanted to head out to the track with me and the crew. I was excited to have him with us because he is the die hard V8 guy, and wanted to see what I had going on.
First pass, straight off the trailer netted me something I have been waiting for and working so hard to achieve.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvU1Gl3ydrY
10.5@133 with an easy going launch. The car felt so alive, and powerful. Bull frogging it out of the hole like never before. This Saturday test and tune was going to be one to remember.
I left the track that day with a 10.4@136 on the same tune from the night before.
After a couple runs, I decided to save it for Sundays main event.
Here are all the runs from Sunday.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YurFFaGyHQ
First pass that day against TrecTec's talon ended the fun. I roasted the clutch, but went on to baby it in hopes that I would catch a nice streak of luck in the qualifiers. It was a no go. I was eliminated and ended up with an overall great weekend, and new standards.
I will be posting up a very detailed mods list here soon. I just figured I would hopefully get this posted up to give you guys a rough idea of what my past 8 years of DSM building has been like, and what I have achieved with the help of friends, family, UPS, and above all. The DSM community.

Fuck I never took a picture of my whip next to the beast! :(
I loved reading the history of the car.
On a side note... I love Angie. I went by today. She's such a good hearted person... NO JOKE! She's doing my friend's head, and she is down to go by his house to file his piston rings for his block. She doesn't play around.
We also talked about your ass. She told me to tell you that you never came back to her to talk about "the filter"? She said you'd know what she's talking about.
This car is coming up big.
Can't wait to see future results and success.

Love the car, awesome build! Glad to see another person to prove that it dosent always take the biggest wallet, most money, and best parts to build fast/nice car. That isent baught but BUILT! Im digging the flat hunter green paint! What kind did you use?. I sprayed semi flat black rustoleum on my hatch and some small parts and going to do my hood with it. Turned out better then the single stage urthane i sprayed the car with. lol.
Keep up the good work.

Im guessing with the GM Maf your running DSMlink? I didnt notice that posted in the mods list. (not trying to hassle you about it lol, just want to clarify). Care to post your last 30psi log from the night you tuned it? Also, do you run just basic 100oct unleaded all the time or was that just for the breakin and you run 110/112/c16 or whatever now? Not to many run 100. I used to run it all the time (weekend car) and loved it.

The car is, and most likely always will be DSMLink powered. I do run straight 100 octane now with a healthy dose of methanol. I added another jet at the throttle body elbow last night, hoping to squeeze some more ponies out of the 35R on some more timing. There is a log I posted on the link forums under the 2008 1/4 mile times list, second to the last page or so. My screen name on there is turbodsm90.

I think the paint was a satin finish from rustoleum. Like I said, I don't mind trying out new things. It is by taking chances, that we succeed. :dunno: (saw it on a motivational picture in my doctors office).

I am going to a bigger snail after the next track event. It will of course be a Garrett, and hopefully get me into the single digits with the addition of a 2nd 255hp. I am wondering if I should finally install this, and see if I could squeeze a 9 out of the .63 turbine housing.

I am curious on who told you mahles were good to only 500hp? I wouldn't be shocked to rip a nice 600ish hp in fwd mode. But I am not a fan of ricer math, so I'll stick to my timeslips:dunno:

Going to the track this saturday, May 31st. I am trying to squeeze every ounce of power this little .63 housing can give me. I would be happy with a 10.3 or 10.2 off the nitrous.

SO, the track was an interesting trip this saturday. I get there, unload the car change the oil and filter go to tech and the official asks me "What times were you hitting last time you were here?"
I must say, I don't bullshit and told him straight up "10.4s to low 11s at 133-136 mph."
He straight up told me he couldn't let me run because I needed my NHRA license as well as an SFI neckbrace. I asked him if I could make the passes for the license and he said, "If you keep it out of the 135 mph range, its no problem."
So I had to DETUNE the car. Pulled the boost back down to 30 psi from the new tune on 35psi, and pulled a few degrees of timing.
First run was against the DVS EM2 civic full drag car. I must say, that is a very distracting car. It was LOUD and FAST. Anywho, I bogged BAD in 1st gear, and just enjoyed the 2nd best seat in the house during the DVS civic's best pass.
I clicked off a 10.7 @ 135mph.
The second time I came around the tech said, "Looks like you need to pull some more out of it." So I did, and shifted into 5th after 3rd gear. I ran an 11.1@123 or so.
Final pass of the day, I come back to the staging lanes. The tech hands me all the paperwork needed for the NHRA license and says," I want to see this thing go all out, giterdun!"
So after a cool conversation, I finally get a nice launch and run a 10.5 @134mph.
I got scared for a minute there because the car was feeling slow for the past few weeks. Even with a detune the car was capable of mid 10s! Its still time to go to a GT4xR.
The new goal is 9s off the bottle, while keeping it streetable.

First builds were clevites on an uncut crank, then I was TOLD ACL race bearings on the second build. That crank was cut .010. Prior to that, I ran whatever buschur throws in his stage 3 shortblock.
This current build has ACL tri-metal race bearings. That UPS plate came out of a broken handtruck :)

Ah yes, I finally got around and installed a 2nd walbro fuel pump. I had decided to weld up my own Y fitting as there was no way in hell I was paying 40 bucks for a fitting I could make for pennies. I should of snapped pics, but didn't have a chance to snap any. I hope my AFRs are finally going to be happy as I was leaning out in the 7000rpm range and up.

So far so good. I can say without a doubt, I have finally solved my high rpm lean out issue. First pull, my afr's were richer than 10.0. I had to lean it out ALOT and the car is actually happy now. I am going to crank the boost up to 40psi and see what it can do as far as holding up. I really don't have much else to help me into the 9s besides the nitrous.

no ted, you can't do that, because according to edwin, you have a 35r and theres no point in running that much boost, its out of its efficentcy range. Therefore its illegal, right edwin?
ted, I wanna see you push a 9.9999 on the 35r without nos, that would be truely sick. I know thats my personal goal once I get the hta on there. I've got a long way to go though.

If people wire wastegates shut on t25s and 14bs to set new records, I'm sure I can follow the same concept on a slightly different turbo :P ok maybe not 40 psi ; but damn close.
I have seriously been looking into sending out my 35r for the hta upgrade. I have also been on the lookout for a bigger turbine housing for the 35r. My little .63 housing is being throat gagged at higher revs.

On a sidenote, I pulled out the blitz dsbc and upgraded to the eboost2 (60psi version).
Excuse the wiring mess, I am almost done.
I went down to radio shack and got some 3 volt leds, wired 3 red ones in series and a blue one on the other output. I have a yellow bulb as well. This boost controller has so many features and tweaks that you can do, its freakin amazing. This is the LAST boost controller I will ever have to buy :)

So I went out to the track last weekend for Grudge night (satuday) and CMI (Sunday). Saturday night was trying to figure out the competition clutch, and sure enough did. Seems it needs some anti-lag out of the hole. I got back into respectable 1.53-1.58 60fts by merely turning on the anti-lag.
After a few passes, and letting off around a little after the 1000ft mark to keep the MPH down, I decided to stay in it. I pulled a good amount of timing after 7500 rpms in hopes of keeping the trap speeds down, and it seemed that it would have worked if 4th gear didn't give up.
The datalogs say the gear stripped at 7200 rpms. That pass was the best run, and could have been a hair quicker if 4th hung in there. I netted a 10.433 @ 133 mph on a 1.54 60ft.
Seems that the gear oil I switched to is too thing for my tranny, or this poor 2 year old tranny has run its course. Either way, I am ditching the amsoil and going back to synergyn fluid.
Here are some pics of the damage.

A dogbox is the best option. At the moment it is financially impossible. I do have a slew of spare transmission parts and spare pieces to keep me afloat. I have no problem rebuilding transmissions. It would be nice to land a sponsorship of some sort with a dogbox gearset manufacturer.

And help me get rid of ALL my useless vacuum lines. Since I just got off the phone with a smog station and they told me I never have to smog my car again!! :D
You gotta explain the never having to smog your car again statement. I have some belief in that because I haven't smogged this car in 3 years. Vacuum lines are cake man, bring that thing over and lets take a look at it this weekend if I have some time.
Ok, a little update. BOTI was interesting to say the least. I got off work friday around 6 got home and took the car out for a "test drive" I go to my test strip and do a full 1/4 mile pass. The tranny felt "loose". I always rebuild them nice and tight, so I figured something went wrong. After the pass the tranny starts whining. I get her home and notice a hole in the bottom of the bell housing and a nice trail of fluid following me for a good half mile. I make a few calls, and get a crew member over (honda guy, never touched a DSM) and I pretty much walk him through the tranny drop, whilst I rebuild a spare tranny. We end up finishing both projects (tranny drop, and rebuild) around the same time. We take a food break, then get back to work around 9:00 or so. Everything is buttoned up and ready to go by midnight and its time for the test drive.
I notice this rebuilt tranny has issues right off the bat. Apparently I grabbed a wrong shift rail from my assortment and 3rd was not going in at all. We were all tired, and I was ready to call BOTI a no show. After a nice pep talk from the guys stating, "You have fans that want to see the car run". That got the wheels turning a bit. My friend Tony (honda guy that dropped the tranny) brought up the idea of rebuilding the good tranny with a hole in it (oxymoron?) and we can change it at the track!
So the time was around 2am and I got to work on the "holy transmission". A couple of the crew members brought me a couple monsters which helped a good bit. I got done rebuilding the transmission around 5AM, by then it was time to load up and drive 2 hours to sac raceway.
About 4 RedBulls later, and a few breaks on the way to the track we unloaded. Passed tech, drove back to the pit and got the tranny off and on in about an 1hr. 30min. With full confidence in the no sleep rebuild, I took it around the pits and casually went through the gears ensuring I could actually attempt some passes on this thing. Seemed nice and tight so it was time to let her rip.
The track temps were nice and warm, and the I was mentally and physically not ready to race. I bogged out of the hole (surprise) and just let the car do its thing. She shifted nice and smooth throughout the pass, but felt slow. I didn't have a way to do a boost leak test and I knew I had a leak somewhere. The car ran a high 10 and a low 11. I was pussyfootin it and the car just felt slow overall.
I didn't really care about the car much, the best parts of BOTI were hanging with Jake, meeting all the pro guys and wrenching with the crew. Overall it was a great event, and I learned that wearing a full sfi 3.2/5 pants and jacket make driving the car EXTREMELY difficult. I know it will take some getting used to, but damn ITS HOT.
Currently I am shooting to go with a 42R and 9s on the current fuel and meth setup. 9s are much more respectable on boost, than just throwing a 75 shot of spray on there :D

We all learn from our mistakes right? How are you going to learn unless you attempt that turbo install, or that transmission removal, or headgasket job etc. I have learned some nice shortcuts on countless things just out of need and despair which to this day alot of the crew members in WyldKardz still learn.
Just the other day I learned that you can stick a screwdriver into the rotor through the brake caliper to hold it while you crack loose the axle nut! I never knew that! Its one of those, "holy shit, I dont believe!" type of things. I always used an impact gun or used a pry bar on the studs, but the screwdriver method is simpler.
Besides, all the parts that break can be had at a junkyard or another member on the forums. There can be no fear of failure when working on a DSM. If that was the case, most of us would have just bought hondas to mod right? But where's the fun in that?
Success comes from failure, mamemba dat!-

Im trying to shave half a second off by the next CMI event :)
Anyone know when was the last time a norcal DSM hit 9s???? :dunno: Im trying to do it out of my garage :)
On a side note, I found that boost leak. A nice 3 inch crack along the welds of my Front mount. I'll update on how the builder stands behind his work when I speak to them. Its only been on the car a year, and the FMIC's are apparently pressure tested up to 100psi before they leave the shop. Funny, I haven't even ran the nitrous yet so that rules out a nitrous backfire
So its 2:30am here in the bay and a fresh transmission in. I started dropping it when the heat was down into the mid 90s and things were cooling down a bit. I had a spare 92 transmission in the backyard I decided to maul up and frankenstein it. The new setup is an evo 3 gearset on 3rd and 4th(which I ordered through the guys over at stevens creek mitsu). I haven't really hammered on it, but this dual synchro 3rd and 4th are something else. It feels so snug and crisp, its going to be awesome when I rap it out to 8500rpms and see how it feels up there :freak:

I figure a 40R would keep get me my goals and drop right it with very minor fab work. I'll be updating this thread when I get the new pieces in and start up the install. Right now I am going to pull the FMIC. Hopefully I can get off work with enough time tomorrow and see what the builder says about said product. I'll post an update on that.

have you at all taken into consideration the possibility that your motor is overpowering your motormounts and there isn't enough play in your intercooler pipes to allow for said movement. If you have the core bolted down tight, and all your pipes are nice and stiff, the flexing might put stress on the core to where something like that might happen.
Maybe you sleep drag race and sprayed without knowing it, LOL

Maybe you sleep drag race and sprayed without knowing it, LOL There is a hump type coupler that allows generous amounts of flex if need be on that pipe. That's an interesting theory though. If anything it would have cracked from the welds where the pipe meets the endtank.

that valve cover is fitting for your car Thanks.
I also have to give thanks to sean from FFtec for taking care of my FMIC issues. Apparently I have been running his older design with 1/16th end tanks. He redid a new front mount for me with 1/8 in. thick plates and welded them inside and out. "If this doesn't hold, I don't know what will" :burnout:
This core is 4.5 inches thick and retains the 2.5 in and out. I opted to stick with the smaller outlet for ease of install and less fabwork. I did upgrade my universal 3 bolt flanges on the downpipe and 02 housing to v-band style flanges. It makes it easier to drop the transmission at the track :P
Its almost back together. I just gotta do some cutting on the bumper cover.

its a 4094R with the 1.06 turbine housing. I might pick up a .95 since this housing seems to be too much for my little 2 liter. I really don't want to spray it yet.

I wonder what the street characteristics are like with a turbo of that size? Is it something that one could tolerate on a daily basis or is it for mostly the weekends?
It is a laggy turbo, and my standards are pretty much function over comfort. I would imagine 80% of the other DSM folk out there would really HATE this turbo as far as the power band goes. I would recommend the 40R to someone that wants a highway killer, and that "all motor" feeling of a powerband. It reminds me of my friends low 12 second 4 door. That thing only made 235fwhp but the car kept PULLING. I loved it! Only thing is, that bad boy could only muster up 12s :)
I still have to tune this thing a bit. After I fix that little exhaust leak at the wastegate, in theory, it should help spoolup by some amount. Im hoping at least 200rpms worth. If I am not satisfied within the next few weeks (drivetrain pending), that .95 housing will have to go on. If I am still not satisfied, the giggle juice will go on :created:
I have always gradually done things to my dsm. I think the 4094R is a huge step into what the car has evolved into. I thought I was never going to outgrow the 35R, but there I was pushing it to the limits. Even with the chipped compressor wheel it held up through LOTS of boost
Javi, I dunno man. Bring whatever. We might have to send someone out to do a food run. Or in the process of getting up to the track sunday morning, we might stop at a store open 24hrs. So are you driving your car up there? This your first time to the track? You racing?

So I am on vacation this week and decided to head out to Infineon for a Weds night drag event. I load up the car, some basic tools, and off we go.
While I am unloading the car, I notice the clutch feels funny. So with the help from a friend, I decide to bleed the clutch. Now, for the past couple weeks I have been having shifting issues. I have since changed the clutch master, and recently the clutch slave cylinder. So, while bleeding the clutch my friend says, "it doesn't seem to be getting better, its actually going lower". So I start freaking out because, shoot...we are already at the track, it was an hour and a half drive and I wanted to get some timeslips. I get in the car, and sure enough the clutch has about 3/4 of an inch of throw. I pull the clutch up with my foot about an inch and a half. I was bummed. I couldnt get it into gear and it was a PITA to load back onto the trailer.
Last night I get the car home, and go to work on the clutch pedal assembly. The SOB is a real bitch to get out of there. I was at it for a good 2.5-3 hrs. Worst part is, I had to fight with alot of my old wiring for gauges and such.
I gotta get it ready for tonight, there is a treat in store if all goes well. Supercharged Z06? sounds fun!

They are some cheap ones that I came across years ago. I put the stiff spring in the rears, that were supposed to be for the front. I have cut numerous 1.6 60fts and a couple 1.5s on that setup.

So now that I got my transmission shifting like it should, my clutch decides to start slipping. I can't blame it, all that timing on E85 isnt gentle :D
I am impressed that the competition clutch held this long. 6 months of NON stop abuse, not bad for 320 bucks!
Looks like its twin disc time for me.

So I was out on low boost (34 psi) and I was trying to figure out some E85 bugs. Low and behold I run into a bay area local Jermz. Now this Camaro isn't your typical V8, oh no. This bad boy is without a doubt the nastiest street car build on this side of town.
He was the last person I expected to see at a local "spot". I cruised along side Dean (bayarearacing.org admin) in his newly purchased z06. We went to this "Java town spot". Hung out for a bit there, then drove up north about 45 minutes to the test track.
-Off subject, but last weekend I took a drive down to Gilroy for a nice meal from Sonic Burgers. Beat on the car a few times on the way there (45 minute drive) and beat on it some more on the way back.-
Did I mention I am still on aluminum rods???? Where are those nay sayers at now? Drop the oil pan every oil change??? Those aluminum rods will stretch in a matter of miles??? F-Off. I am living proof, that's right Ted/Wyldkardz DSM is doing it. A street car on aluminum rods driving for hours on the freeway....Sorry, hate to brag but I think I am entitled to it on this one :) Motor hasn't been cracked open since march of '07.
Anyhoe, here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdWYJU7c1xo
There is no bad blood at all between me an Jermz. So please keep those youtube comments positive in there. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the guy since he pretty much built his car as I have. If there was a car I had a choice to lose to, it would be that Camaro.
I hate to put up excuses, but as you can see in the video I missed 2nd gear the whole night. My new clutch disc started slipping as well. I guess its time to go twin disc.......

Someone just posted some old vids of your car on the 35 and I told them "It cars like yours why I cannot watch build threads because it makes me want to build my dsm"
I got an old Z car that I want to put a turbo v8 in, but vids like this make me think why bother because my dsm will keep beating it.
Keep working at getting it dialed in, you know it will be worth it in the end.
Also make sure you get to run these guys again too once your set up.
Good luck

I meant march of '08. Anywho, I know the grodens hold up to the abuse! I wish you luck on the MGPs. I can't speak on them as I haven't tried them yet.
I will be tearing the motor down for a freshen up here within the next couple months. A race motor that's lasted almost a year? I mean seriously, isn't that amazing? I drive this thing every weekend, and it gets a pounding every time. I think I need to update some aluminum rod threads in the archives.

Next on the list of things to do is a smaller turbine housing for the 40R. This 1.06 is just a bit to big for my little 2.0L :o
I just ordered a set of injector bungs from JMFab. If my venom intake manifold doesn't sell, I'll see if I can get some help from a local tig welder. I want to run dual fuel rails, and I need to change the manifold flange for the q45 throttle body.

I could care less if the clutch spoke Cantonese between shifts and at stop lights. As long as it holds abuse, the noise during WOT will cover up any foul language/moaning/groaning the clutch spits out ;)

I tune it 100% on the street and track. I haven't put this car on rollers since the early 25G days. One day I will get you guys a dyno sheet....one day  When I take it out on drives I am constantly tweaking minor things as the weather and altitude changes from place to place I go. I am hoping it will be a bit more consistent on the E-85 as I ditch the meth injection.

The cometic headgasket I ordered was on the thick side. If I can remember correctly it was the thickest one they made at the time and it was all they had in stock. Not ideal, but I thought it wouldn't make a difference. The block and head were virgins at the time, and I was the first person to have the block and head resurfaced. There is still tons of meat left on both surfaces as they were in very good condition when they fell into my hands.
When I first did a compression test on this build the numbers were in the 145 range. As of last weekend they are in the 130-135 range. Damn good for an engine that has taken this much abuse and never had any issues. The mahles are off the shelf 8.5:1 pistons. My compression numbers are cold, so that makes some sense on why they are low. It still runs strong though!
Ah yes, I got a few visits today. Fed-Ex, USPS, and UPS earlier this week :)
I will be picking up some 650cc injectors from an evo buddy for the second fuel rail. I know I will need to go bigger later, I just want to give em a shot to see how everything works. So 1600cc injectors will be run by a single bosch -044, -8 lines. The 660s will be run by the dual 255s, -6 lines. I think the bosch -044 can hang with the demand of the 1600s on the -8 hose compared to the -6. I dunno, we'll see how this goes in a few weeks. Xmas is coming up and I gotta save $$ for the nephews and nieces gifts!

When are you coming down? Im taking a small break from dropping the tranny right now. I just gotta loosen up one bolt on the upper bell housing then I could slide it off. Yo, are you going to be available during the week days? Ill pick those cams up from you.
I've been getting off work late due to the Xmas season. Only real time I have are weekends. When are you gonna be ready to pick them up?
Here is a little math. Its 4:20am as I type this so bare with me.
63cc/min=1GPH Now. I am running 4 M5 nozzles which at 100psi flow 5 gph. I have an additional m10 nozzle that flows 10 GPH.
So M10/4=2.5
2.5*63=157.5
Now, for the M5.
5*63=315
157.5+315=472.5cc
Seems that I will need an injector close to 500cc just to maintain my AFRs in their current state. I am going to pick up a set of 660s from an evo buddy and give those a shot on the dual wallys.
I ran through the meth that was in the reservoir, and put E85 in there to see what I was in for. Well, after some time in it last weekend I got an idea of what to expect with the meth setup pumping E-85 as well as E-85 through the 1600s. I will still need more fuel than what the meth setup is pushing. I am curious if I am outflowing the meth setup. Currrent meth pump is a low pressure inline walbro rated at something like 125lph and 90psi max. So these numbers are getting me in the ballpark, or just shy I hope.
I am terrible at math, so I know something is off somewhere. There are alot of variables that I would like to account for but seems that a little improvisation is in order; ie., assumptions.
Sidenote-
In a way I am happy I am giving up on meth injection. It can be a headache at times,The inconsistencies, the leaks, the pumps going out, tracking down meth. But it DOES help 91 octane make power!

I took it for a drive around the block and revved it up to 9k in first. It went RIGHT into 2nd. I am impressed. I love putting things on the car that makes it feel COMPLETELY different. Its a beautiful thing. V3 is nice too. I started my car up and I set the idle air adjustment a bit rich and the sombitch idles just fine with E85. I was shocked. I guess it just needed some more fuel on a cold start.
So far so good. I will also be getting the smaller .85 turbine housing for the 40R this week. The mickey thompson ET street radials are on their way also. Shooting to have the car race ready for CMI winter warm ups on the 11th of Jan.

Anywho, the car ran constitent 13s on sunday. Terrible performance out at the track. I wish I had more time to tune. I think I already stated this, but I am starting from scratch with the V3 map. On my last pass at the track the car was a handfull in 1st and 2nd gear. It was torque steering all over the place in 1st while spinning and shifting into second the steering wheel was going all over the place as well. I got the 40R building 30psi by 6000rpms and the car is heading in the right direction so far.
I only got 3 passes at the track. It wasn't enough but I got the tune pretty close to where I want it.
I'll be heading to a Saturday TnT in a few weeks to setup the 8 1600cc injectors and dual rails. All this will be disclosed soon with the help form Tom, Dave, and Francois on the link forums. This E85 thing is getting serious :)

Busted transfer case friday night before CMI. I was out tuning and figured I would try to get used to the new clutch and tires. 5500 rpms + antilag +20psi = KABOOM!

Sounds to me like you need to invest in a nicely built transfer case! Haha

Even the built T-Case brake.. As soon as I decided to go GT-K 1000 or bigger (Running BW S400 now) I had to go auto. Break a lot less stuff, more consistent, and its a ratcheted manual body so I still get to shift the car.
Best of both worlds..

Just out of curiosity are you still running FP2 cams? I would step up to FP3's at this point. Would be an easy swap to.

Man, the kid on your lap really doesn't help with making you LOOK any smaller, I really don't see how you manage to work on the car (under the dash with the seat in) I'm TINY and it's a pain in the ass for me. More respect than ever :P Pretty cool pictures of the little guy in the seat.

I was waiting for that comment. I also like hearing the "man, why don't you let me drive your car" one too. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that.....
300lbs/ 5ft. 11in. Good times. I love impressing the little asian women as well. "ZOMG you are an animal" :D

There might be a big blue bottle in that area by then. When are you visiting the bay again?

Your going spray Ted? This year will be the year for me. 9s or bust!
So I pulled off the intake manifold tonight. I am going to start working on the dual fuel rail setup. I am on the fence about which throttle body to go with. I have been running the mustang TB for a good year and half now. I finally had an issue with it. Here is the video.

Its just one of those things that make you go....hmmm
Aside from that, here is a pic with the stock 1G TB, Mustang 70mm, and the Q45.
That Q45 TB, is MASSIVE.

The mustang TB is an easy fix. The tab/stop just needs to be bent out a bit. It'll serve its purpose just fine in the future.
I got some new toys for the spare motor build. Lets just say, I will be trying out the RnR aluminum rods, a nice ported head, and some hong kong style cam gears :)

You're going to love those aluminum rods! Be prepared to do some grinding of the main caps. I have been driving my basically daily, 3 hours some times, with no problems.
Otherwise good luck!

I am running groden aluminum rods right now. I love them too! I drive my car around on the weekends everywhere and haven't had any issues either. Since march of last year.
I just got the RnRs for a good price and figured I would give them a shot instead of the grodens. The machine shop knows what to do with the rods.
lilredeclipse, are you running an oil cooler? If so, a stock one?
lilredeclipse

Well I was running a stock one, Until a set of railroad tracks decided to rip a hose open..
This was up until about a week ago.
I have a B&M cooler on now, but I haven't had a chance to drive it around since my whole quartermaster not fitting a fwd ordeal.

I just read down through all of this thread. I saw your clutch fork that sucks bad! On the clutch did you ground down the threads that hold the fingers to the pressure plate? It allows you to take a lot less out of the clutch fork.
