i dont know if anyone else here does it but my friend owns a 91 Talon FWD turbo and when he launches he pops it at 7000RPM and he catches traction. His tires are pretty worn out and bold and some spots but he has no suspension mods other than a strut bar and i doubt it that it is whats letting him take off that high. He spins a little but he catches traction, what the hell? Can anyone explain this to me?

You gotta tell us what kind of clutch he's using,
maybe it worn out so it slips not transfering all the power to the ground at once

7000rpms???
I dump at 4-4500rpms and I thought that was crazy high. There's no way possible that my car would launch at those rpms. To launch at those rpms and get traction tells me that either:
He doesn't have enough power to make the tires spin.
There's something terribly wrong with his car.
His clutch is slipping BADLY.
He's riding the clutch out and not telling you.
Last but not least, he's filling you full of sh*t.

He does have a ACT Xtreme(brand new less than 2k miles), but the thing also is that he let me drive the car and he told me to hold the RPM's at 7000RPM and pop it. i had the same results he had, the car would launch ahead of most people except AWD's but the thing is even on AWD's he doesnt get left to behind. I popped the clutch at 7000RPM like he told me and the damn thing spun its tires for about a sec while still moving forward quickly until it caught traction. He scratches at the end of 2nd also. he is fast enough to take down lightly modified Camero SS's, seen it while in the passenger side. What is the deal with his car?, if i try that i will never stop spinning my tires.

How does he not hit revlimiter? If he is launching at 7000 and giving it gas, you only have 500 more rpms until revlimiter. If he has any power, the tires should spin enough to at least make him hit 7500, launching that high. What are his 60' times like at the track? I launch my AWD at about 5000 and I often hit revlimiter due to all 4 wheels spinning.

I don't see how it is even possible to launch a fwd that high and not burn the tires right into the rev limiter. With my old fwd if I launched over 4k and just popped the clutch I would be a wheel hoppin, tire burnin', *idiot*.http://smilecwm.tripod.com/net/icon20.gif If this is true he has devised the way to keep the fwd cars from getting stomped by their awd brothers.!!http://smilecwm.tripod.com/net/icon26.gif

What i think might be helping him out is the fact that his car is dropped in the front alot and the back is higher than the front. But it still doesnt explain why he can launch that high. He cant launch as fast as a AWD(of course not) but sure as hell stays within a 1 to 1 1/2 car lengths behind. His shocks in the front are almost completely gone. If anyone has a answer to how he does it i will like to hear it.

Is he using a electronic boost controller..
Can you list his other mods?
He must have a jet engine like the batmobile to push him forward :)

Ok this is all the things he has in his car, cat-back exhaust still has stock downpipe and cat, S-AFC, MBC , 16g at 18psi, front of car dropped in front more than back, air filter, free mods, some pretty worn out tires, ACT Xtreme clutch, and basic stuff like plug wires, plugs, etc.

Get him to a track or something...

I just remembered... I drop the clutch at 7000rpms too. Just after the waterbox at the dragstrip! :D Seriously, get that man to a track. If he can replicate that launch at the track, he'll post some seriously killer times. If he agrees, watch those 60' times and get back to us.

hey guys about a week and a half ago my friend totaled his car. I will try to get some pictures of the car and you will be amazed at what you will see. He hit a tree going around 60 to 70mph after someone cut him off. Let's just say that the engine is sitting in the same area as where the glove compartment should be at(you can actually see then engine boldging out of the glove compartment). His rims some 17in Revos were still ok but his brand new rebuilt engine is stuck somewhere inside and we will try to salvage anything that we can from it tomorrow. I mean he hit that tree so hard that the floor of the car just crumbled up. His CD player that was bolted flew out. The front of the car is backed all the way to the beginning of the windshield. Whats also amazing is that he just came out with some minor brusies and a cut on his forhead.
