Hey guys, I've been a lurker for a while now but haven't been on here since a while. I was out of the dsm game ever since I parted her old heart out. Now I'm back because I miss boost and being in the dsm scene. I thought I would share with you guys my project. 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GST. I bought her all riced out(pictures below) a couple years ago and it was my daily driver until she died on me. This is my first project build every so bare with me. I will have many questions and if you guys can help, that would be awesome.

Starting from the beginning:

I bought her riced out as said earlier:

After a while of driving it, I tried to derice it. Interior was all painted white and I got everything back to black. I took of the side graphics and the gigantic wing.

The evo B16G wasn't enough for me so I bought a used Borg Warner S200 turbo. The sad thing is that I never got around to install it...:(

On the right is the Borg Warner S200 and left is a CT-26 turbo
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/parts/ct26s200.jpg

My calipers went bad so I had the urge to buy a used BBK from a local dsm'r. I couldn't pass the deal because it was to good to be true.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/parts/DSC06937.jpg

I then found some calipers for the rear but never got around to get custom brackets and new pads.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/parts/100_1188.jpg

Transmission cracked and I started to tear her up. She had bad rings on third piston also. So I said to myself "fully built time!".
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/tranny.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/getmsg-3.jpg

Parted it out for dirt cheap and got some extra cash. The 7 bolt was an ass to sell so I sold it for $60.

I bought a new rebuild block from another local dsm'er.

2.0 6 bolt
Decked
Bored .020 over
Stock crank
.020 Ross pistons
Eagle rods
Clevite bearings
ARP headstuds

Just a mock up of how it looks like with the turbo.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_2325.jpg

The parts that I've gathered up so far since last year are :
-3" GM w/ MAF translator
-3" intercooler pipings with 4" thick intercooler(I know, overkill)

Here I am now trying to sand down the rust and repaint the whole engine bay. But first I have to remove everything in the engine bay. When I bought the block, it came with some parts that I didn't even know like mounts, brackets, and bolts and screws. I'm just a noobie at this dsm stuff. Any help would be awesome!!!

My future goal is to get her to 400+ HP on the turbo but I do plan on upgrading to a bigger turbo in the future. Hopefully she will be running before the end of the year.

I will be ordering some parts in a couple of months.
-JMF race/drag intake manifold
-FP manifold
-1000cc injectors
-rebuilt 1g head
-prothane motor mounts
-SS fuel lines and fittings
-dsm-link
-aftermarket fuel rail
-AWD conversion if I have time

I will update as I get more done.

Seems like she came onto the scene when rice was "cool," you've got a lot of quality parts with you though, I can imagine this turning into one hell of a build. Especially if she was all wheel... Lets see some post de-rice pics!

Stock tail lights and a gsx wing would be good/cheap improvements. That front bumper looks real good from straight-on. It pokes it's nose out a little too much from a side view though.

Yes she came when bodykits and big wheels were cool. I'd say back in 2000. Owner tried to sell it but nobody would buy it. Interior was all white and had white indiglo gauges. I converted everything to black with OEM pieces except for the gauges which I changed to black and red. It will be getting new wheels but I sold the 18's already.

Yes I have the stock tails. In fact, I have 3 sets. 1 set tinted and 2 sets OEM. The altezza's, I threw them on the ground and banged on it with a sledge hammer. I'm going to stick with wingless though. I like 2g's wingless. I do plan on getting an OEM 2GB bumper with a lip.

I've been so motivated to work on my dsm but now it's getting cold and I can't do much without a garage heater. But here's what I've done lately. It's nothing much due to lack of funds but it's getting there.

Got the dash, seats, cluster, and seats back in. The dash lost some weight and now weighs about 5-10lbs. Air bags are soon to be taken out.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_7245.jpg

I removed the blower, a/c, heater, and the climate control.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_7247.jpg

Fuse box relocation is almost done. It's going in the glove department.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_7248.jpg

I will be mounting my gauges in here. Everything behind the dash is out as you can see.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_7251.jpg

Got myself a 2gb bumper. Foglight holes removed and filled. Needs more work on the bumper.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_7255.jpg

This is going behind the bumper, just a cheap one from ebay that is 4" thick with 3" inlet/outlet.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_7258.jpg

4 piston with 12" rotors. They are install wrong as I was just testing for caliper clearance with my wheels.

I am hoping the get the spyder up and running by spring time. Hopefully I can get my water pump, 90 oil filter housing, and all of the timing stuff before the end of this year. I have modified my 2g mount to clear the 1g water pump and switch the tensioner arm with the 1g. I will be picking up a FP manifold from a local dsm'r. Soon I will have my RM chin lip also. I've been dying to have one for years. I'll update as soon as I can!

I don't like them either. I got the bumper that way and I finished up the fog light holes. I wish the nose cut outs were not there. My next bumper will not have those for sure.

Also with my intercooler setup that I'm using, I will have to cut the bottom area of bumper where the fog lights were at to clear the pipes. The pipes will be sticking out which I like a lot.

Since I have extended wheel studs in the front, I'll be transfering those to the back because they weren't long enough for my gsx wheels/I don't have the OEM lug nuts. But I do have these for the fronts.

How are you planning on de-ricing that widebody crap?

I have no idea actually. The previous owner molded it onto the body. So there are 2 ways. 1, take it to the body shop and have them do it. Or 2, I rip it apart myself but it's still in good condition. I do want the OEM body but for now it's staying until I have her up and running and then save up to take it off.

Got a little bit done tonight. I pulled out my dash again. When I relocated the wires, I cut some of them off because they were very long. I found out that our headlight harness(black wire) is like 10 feet extra long for no god damn reason. I figured I might as well do the inside harness while I'm at it. I will be removing the HVAC, foglights switch and harness, wiper harness, Infinity amp harness, air bag harness, power mirror harness(powered windows doesn't work anyways), and a couple of other wires. So basically you can call my whole harness a semi race harness. I'll be keeping the sound system, headlights, signals, hazard, cig lighter, gauge cluster light, dim light, and some other minor things to keep my car semi streetable.

Here is the extra wires

Alright so I think I'm done with half of my wirings. I still don't understand why Mitsubishi decided to run the driver side wires through the whole engine bay when they could've put the wires through inside like what I did.

No more driver side wires:cool:

Passenger side
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_7621.jpg

Driver side. Most of the yellow, white, and blue wires are for the altenator. I will be buying the jay's alternator relocation kit which is why the wires are hanging like that. The wires hanging across are for the headlights, corners, and sidemarker.

Thanks! It really isn't that hard. It just takes time and the most part I hate about this is removing the old wire loom and electrical tape. Especially when it's old and the tape is hardened. I guess it'll pay off when the engine is in. Locating each wire should be a piece of cake by now.

The reason why I'm doing this is because not many DSM'r have a full wire tuck and I'd like to bring that to the DSM world. I do plan on shaving all of the useless holes in my engine bay to have the shaved and tucked look to it when the engine is in.

Sorry for the long update. Nothing much has happened. It's been way too cold and finally reached to 40's. I just tore the engine apart to recheck everything. Everything seems pretty good except the pistons were installed incorrectly. And something about the rings bothers me.

Crank looks good and Eagle rods+Ross pistons are legit.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/100_7889.jpg

Tonight I measured the piston rings with the feeler gauge.
Results:
3 of the 4 piston's first rings were gaped to .019 and second rings out of the 3 were gaped at .023. The 4th piston had the first ring gaped at .029 and second ring at .019. Is there a way to tell if they were installed wrong? This is where I get worried. I'm thinking that I will have to buy new rings and refile them down to correct specs.

Got my timing tools from Jay Racing and wow, all I can say is fast shipping! Ordered Friday evening and came in today. I've never had anything shipped this fast. If only I ordered it during the weekday, the wait would probably be a day I bet. The timing tool looks pretty good and looks like a strong tool because it weighs more than what it looks. Cam gear tool has black marker marks on them but I don't know which is goes up or down. The long screw had one flaw which at the beginning of the thread wasn't trimmed off so I had to break it loose but it wasn't that big of a deal. Overall, I like the kit and think it's worth the money.

Should I put some high temp gasket maker on the oil pump cover where the BSE is at? Or is it okay leave it as it is with no sealer? Here is a picture of what I mean, it has black RTV on it.

I'll go against the grain here and say that I think you should keep that Kaminar WB kit. It is not a bad looking kit, is out of production and rare, and will allow you to put more rubber under the car. If the body work is clean I wouldn't change the car back to stock panels.

Get a more suitable wing, rock the kit, and make the body perfect. Oh, and stock tails.

Wide ass wheels FTW : )

I'm not gonna lie, the previous owner did an excellent job on the body work. All I'm really missing is the sideskirts and rear bumper. I will be rocking the widebody until I have the funds to remove it.

The day I bought the car is the day I took those altezza's off. So I'm rocking OEM taillights and I have 4 sets of them:D. Future sizing for the wheels are going to be 17x9.5+12(RPF1) all around just so I can make all of you guys jealous:cool:.

Took a trip to MAP and ordered some goodies. Hopefully it comes in at least by Friday. I just picked up some OEM front fenders today for $40 from a local dsm'r. Pictures will be up in a bit.

My favorite part of this build so far is installing valve springs and cams. Can't go wrong with the Euro Export Valve compressor tool. One of my favorite tools so far on this build. It makes installing/uninstalling of the valves springs and retainer go smoothly. Finally had the chance to install these things. It took me roughly 2 hours to get the cams, valve springs, and retainers installed. The "hard" part of the install is putting the keepers in place so it holds onto the retainer. It's pretty simple actually, you just have to put them in the right spot so it'll stay still. Now onto the pictures like always.

Got back from MAP and started on the exhaust studs right away. FP stud and nuts

Update(will get pictures later on today):

Engine is almost fully assembled. ARP headstuds torqued 20, 40. 60, 80, and then a final 85lbs. Hopefully she seals up good on the MLS Cometic headgasket. Something about the MLS Cometic head gasket worries me. I feel like I should've went with OEM composite. Timing belt is on but I need to tension the tensioner. The cruise control t/b cable was bothering me so I picked up a non-cruise control cable for $20. It'll help clear up things in the engine bay. Still need to find the correct size bolts for the OFH and tighten the bolt that holds the springs and piston down. Also ported the hole to relieve some high oil pressure. Problems I ran into was that 1 piston had wrong piston ring gaps. First ring was .028 and second ring was .015!!! Luckily a local member had an extra set of Ross .020 rings and I picked them up.

Engine bay is almost completed. Just need to buy more paint and finish it off. Most of the holes are filled but will re-do when the engine is in so I know which holes I don't need. I have over 75 hours into it. Sanding is a pain in the ass. I found a way to mount the FMIC. I used 2 L brackets and 4 straight brackets.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/toufueyangstaz/eclipse/DSC02456.jpg

Picked up some kyb gr2 shocks with cheap adjustable coilovers. I will not use the coilovers as I never trust them in the first place. I slammed it for shits and giggles lol.

Prothane Motor Mount Inserts
Forced Performance Race Exhaust Manifold
ARP Flywheel Bolts
Oil cooler
Lower timing belt cover

What you could've done like those vw and honda guys is take a piece of sheet metal and cover up the bumpy fire wall. I wanted to get extreme like that with mine but I just got so tired of it sitting not being able to drive it.

Looks very cool though. Very good job so far. You should keep it fwd. Awd is over-rated. :P

You have any spacers on it?

For the GSX wheels, yes. The talon wheels, I tested fitted it and it did not need spacers. But it is very close to the calipers though. Extended wheels studs and spacers works. Otherwise you'll need a new set of wheels that will clear the caliper. I used to own a set of gs wheels and I think they were able to clear with spacers also but I cannot guarantee you as I don't really remember.
