I just wanna start off by IM BACK, its weird BUT feels GOOD. Ill start off by a little background info.
I was in the dsm scene from 17 to 22 and now im 24. Its been two years since I have actually wrenched on a dsm. I guess after i graduated college i wanted to relax bit so i parted out my dsm and bought a crotch rocket. A couple of months ago i sold my crotch rocket and.. here is how it alllllll ssstaartttedd...
One day for some odd reason the dsm bug starting biting me in the ass and I started coming back on to dsmtalk just once in a while just to read and look around. I was not trying to get back into dsm's at all!! A couple of weeks later I was with my cousin cleaning my garage and found ALOT of my old parts. We just started talking about the old days how we had 3-4 dsms in the family and how much fun it use to be. Then we went onto the computer looked at our old racing videos, alot of fun. We then strolled onto talk and looked around at some recent videos. well after selling my crotch rocket i saw a couple local highly modded dsm's and just wanted to get back! So my cousin and i started lightly searching for a dsm. I wasn't really aggressively searching but honestly being lazy about it. To cut the story short i got a 92 laser OF COURSE AWD (thats for all you fwd lovers..uhh hummm GUL :P ).
So I guess i should start off by saying how i got the car, because that itself was an insane journey. A day before i got married my cousin contacted a guy selling a dsm in the midwest region and the car just sounded reasonable. I usually do not buy modded cars but the price on this car was really low so i bit.
Well after my cousin talked to my guy and got all the details, it was a dsm i was definetly interested in. SOOO...three days after i got married i took a friend and MY NEWLY MARRIED WIFE on a 6hour journey to buy a dsm. My wife was aware of my hobby but didn't know to what extent.lol She was really in for it.
I honestly thought that the dsm was going to be in decent shape when i got there it was another sotry. One thing i forgot about while i was out of the scene for 2 years is that some dsm owners dont know how to build shit and only build shit (if that makes any sense).
Now the car has no rust, no dents no dings so that is a big plus. The guy started the car and it did not sound too solid but i was still for it. He drove me around in it and well the problems started. The car would not never idle,i mean ever! He himself stated the car has not been tuned. The kick would only be there after 5k but i gotta admit it was a strong pull. 27PSI and NOT TUNED pulled very hard. Now the ghetto gauge pod was moving, the boost gauge was moving. Inside the car was shit. The car was definitely not put together right. We get back to his house and i look underneath it is of course leaking some sort of fluid. Mechanically the car did not sound too solid. I have a big decision to make, its 11 at night we just drove 6 hours and have another 6 hours to drive back and im not sure if i wanna buy the car. After debating for an hour whether to buy it or not i decided to go ahead and purchase it. As a smart responsible person I DRIVE THE DARN THING BACK. now its 3am, no sleep all day and dont forget my newly wife is with me and i know im pushing the buttons a little bit. What happens is, the darn thing breaks down..AHHHH...the tranny is coming off the block. Two of the tranny bolts are missing and the car is not shifting. The best thing to do at this point is park it in a SAFE location and just go home and come back later to pick it up. After sleeping a good 10 hours i get up and realize that i still have to go get the car which is now only 3 hours away. Thank the lord that i am close to my family. Three of my cousins drive down to pick it up for me, i really didnt think it would be a good idea to take my wife again. So three my cousins left with a jack, tranny bolts all around, tranny fluid, oil and of course a tool box with only 14mm 17mm and a 12mm. After their 6 hour journey, the car made it back.
Info about the car:
ONCE AGAIN THE REASON I BOUGHT THE CAR BECAUSE THE PRICE WAS VERY LOW AND IT HAD ALOT OF MODS ON THERE.
it has a walbro 255
afpr (unknown)
990 injectors
pte 61 trim
link
semi-built motor (does have perfect compression, confirmed after compression test)
SMIM (unknown)
3" GM-MAFT
slowboy racing front mount
boost controller
and alot of other good stuff which i cant think of on top of my head
THE CAR RUNS LIKE ABSOLUTE SHIT!!! Does not pull right, hear a bunch of weird noises and now I know it needs alot of time but not alot of money.
Now i am trying to put all the pieces back into place. I took off the gm-maft put the stock 1gmas, stock injectors, and stock ecu. Going to get a good base and then try to build up from there.
The car would hesitiate to start and I had to diagnose that, find out why its running like crap and bunch of misc. stuff to do to the car.
I had all the parts there but needed to start to piece the puzzle back together the right way.
HERE WE GO:
