Hey i was wondering if someone here could help me out on this minor setback i got myself into. I am wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction on this problem. First of all i am using an old 1990 non eprom ( not that it matters) ECM, there are a couple of things i would like to change on it.#1 i need a simpler approach to getting a functional tach wire without going through a noise filter of some sort, and make it fire a POSITIVE trigger, yes i said positive because thats the signal i feed the STOCK corolla tach to make it move, ground feeding it with pulses makes it do nothing.Back to the question at hand, can someone help me wither make this simpler or do i have to make a flipping circuit like what most people do to 2g's with 6 bolts?as in the RRE/ Magnus way? I would like to inquire more about using a 92 on up ecu so i maybe able to dsmlink it in the future. Yes it is a corolla, and yes it does have a 4g63.

Yes its one of my AE 86 GT-S hatch, had a coupe too ... it was VERY VERY VERY nice, till a tree parked itself ontop of it. So i vented my anger and made something useful, like this car $33 in paint and the total money spent on the vehicle with its purchase is roughly 1300 bucks, its my entry for GRM 2008. But i dont think it will make it since i dont have the resources like a trailer and extra hands to participate in that event, so next year ill have another $1 to add to the budget. would it be a teaser if i said its using a Toyota Supra trans ? if it is ill just tell you it has a Ford 8.8" rear waiting to be rebuilt with an EATON LSD. Other than that it runs fine, and the paint came out all wrong, it was supposed to be flat but the paint would have cost me 120 bucks plus the hardener, activator and reducer.I wanted to make it look like a military vehicle, but im starting to like it now. Still need to slap all kinds of ford, mazda,GM ,Toyota and maybe a POLARIS too ( my MR2 uses polaris parts for the intercooler) :D

If you are 100% sure that you need a positive signal for your tach then you can use a spdt relay and reverse polarity. The signal will come in through pin 85, it will go out to your tach on pin 30, and pin 87 and pin 86 will get 12v.

You will need a DMM to see what signal the ignition system puts out. I know that if you tag the injector wire, it is AC voltage there.

Turbotech7
09-27-2008, 07:15 AM
yes it is positive, i injected a pulsed positive signal in it and it WORKED! you do know that relay would be going crazy because its a pulsed signal.if i were to do that i would use a transistorized solid state circuit, not an electromechanical relay.

As for the injector wire, i am not trying to degrade the injector signal , burn the driver module in the ecu up, if i even do that route. i doubt i am but thanks for trying to help. i am going to do something about it maybe monday or so and see what i come up with, im not really pressed for it since its not going to GRM 2008 anyway. again thanks for your post in trying to help out.

:D You tease and then post no build thread? Don't you know there's an unwritten rule that if you do something amazing on a car forum you have to explain it in detail? That's like saying "I need to know how to get with Carmen Electra. Oh, I bang Paris Hilton on the side."

Here's his progress album. If his ADD wasn't in full effect, he'd have his Talon running 7s by now instead of building this bucket. :D

Build Thread... 10,12,14 MM bolts, nuts, angle iron, copper pipe, 4g63+turbo+trans+AE86= homegrown. Now tell me how to get with Carmen Electra!:D

DOH!!!you said progress! Anyway that car was Steves idea, he said I bet you cant rua a 4g63 and a Corolla together and make it run. After that he said im just nuts to do it , while im right in the middle of the build.By the time i was about ready to sell it set it on fire or throw it in the woods, he told me im a slacker. Then my big turbo blew up, the car caught fire.:chair:
After all that i still wouldnt be able to put any one of my lawn ornaments together if it was not for him a few select friends. And yes my talon runs 7's it ran 7 times down the strip and managed to blow the turbo apart :tat:

i really didnt think much of the car till maybe 2 days after it got painted, now i kinda like it, it makes more sound than my talon at the moment. Thank you all for the replys and i should be able to work on it sometime in the middle of the week and hopefully get the tach working:P

BTW its not a teaser now Steve spilled the beans.

yes i was trying to discuss that in my 1st post , but i think there is a much SIMPLER solution...... Results come in sometime after this weekend.

Well thanks, now i know i can photoshop something good.:D not really i cant even use imovie without getting pissed off. It took a lot of butter to shoehorn it in there, i cheated though. I got the motor 15 ft in the air slapped butter in the engine bay and dropped the engine in it!<<< build thread #2

I wanted to help Tony share his project with our community. To do so, I have started a build thread for him and have merged this help thread on Electronics Tech.

I don't want to spoil his surprise, but from the pictures you can tell it's a toyota Corolla (AE86) with a 4G63. Tony does great work.

Good Luck Tony!

I take no responsibility for what goes on in your warped brain. I never said you cant do it, I said you shouldn't do it. If you'd put the energy into the Talon it'd be alot further along. Regardless, now that you've created this abomination, the least you could do is finish it already. :tree:

Well lets begin with an update, those people want a build thread so a build thread they will get! THE Factory Toyota TACH WORKS!!! Ok now their updated i cant believe you called it an abomination. i consider it home grown with eco friendly "RECYCLED" materials. and its MADE FROM THE FINEST JUNK !

As far as the tach is concerned it is a positive trigger controlling it, so with that said the Tacho interface module mitsu put in the early ones did have a purpose. To make me put this car together!

so tonight i tried to back it out the garage, to my amazement the ignition switch was cracked, i look and i look and somehow i knew it has a hairline crack. So i proceeded to touch it, to make a long story short it shot 6 out of 6 springs 6 recovered, and who knows how many ball bearings there are. now i got an excuse to use all my collection of weird gadgets and switches. and the tail lights look like they work now. update #3

i was sorting out the junk pile today and i found more weird things to put on it. Since it was just a mix of random parts to make this car, i have decided to put more things on it that don't make sense.

So this is how it started, I had a 1986 GT-S Hatch and i Found a 1986 GT-S Hatch growing out of someones yard, I inquired and it turns out no one knew what was wrong with it so they just had it sitting for years. I gladly asked them how much they would let it go for since i had the same car and i could use it for parts. I was actually surprised when he said $100 you can take it,and before he could blink his eye I was all ready to shake his hand. Within close to an hour I had the car put away in a shop i worked for at the time. The Black Coupe is a very important part of the story that i will talk about later on. So far I'm in a deep $180 hole :)

Why not throw a 7age in there?

1 because i would have to spend money on it.
2 why not just my 4agze ?
3 It needed Boost.
4 had to be cheap.
5 It needed to be different.
6 it still kept the 4 and the G
7 that's just how it ended up as.

remember the purpose was to build a GRM $2008 car, never got done on time. But you would be surprised how much it ended up costing me at the end.

Hey Lex can we rename this thread ?

and 8 people dared me to do it.:naughty:

As far as running, i've made it the last 2 weeks to work and back, only thing that scares me right now is im still on the stock 1 row radiator that seems to be working so far. I would like to find a radiator of the same size and the thickest i could fit in there, so anyone have an extra one they can give me ?:) So yeah it runs fine but the other day it shot something out the exhaust, but that's another different story. Maybe ill duct tape a camera on it and take some videos.
