To get everyone up to speed i took the car to the track two summers ago. Timing went a bit high and I had some detonation problems. The car never was the same, put it away for that winter with low compression hovering around 100 to 115. Took it out of storage this spring and I drove it for two days when the water pump went. So this June I put it away for the season with new plans in mind...

The plan:
-Built 2.0L 6 bolt.
-New block.
-Same built head.
-Respray engine bay.

Picked up this virgin block and crank from a local WiDSM'r over the summer.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/Jake2988/build0809/parts9.jpg

In the next couple week I will be taking the block and parts to C&S to have them do the machining and assemble the bottom end.
I know it seems as though I forgot the bearings, but I did not. I am waiting for the machine shop to measure my crank first so I know what size bearings I will need.
The bearings will be ACL Tri-metal race bearings.

Nice looking talon. DOes that Saturn alt. put out more amps than the Galant VR-4 alt? Is that saturn alt. swap just a sinmple bolt up replacement? Or is there some fab/modding work needed?

I'm not sure if my particular alternator puts out more than a VR4 alternator. But IIRC the stock DSM alternator puts out 65 amps. I Know that you can also get 200amp Saturn alternators, and I am pretty positive that 200amps is way more than any factory alternator.

The Saturn alternator has a much better regulator and solves most if not all of the voltage problems in a DSM. Especially if you are running big cams and have problems with consistent voltage at idle.

There is some fab work required but not much, anyone with a grinder can do it. You need to grind down the mounting point on the block/front case till it is all even with the smallest diameter of the front case, then some grinding on the alternator is required. Of corse there is a bit of re-wiring to do but that's a given. Also I know if you go bigger than 95amps you need to upgrade the wiring from the battery to the alternator and ground with a lower gauge wire.

Ill get some pics of it next weekend, to show as an example. I'm at school right now till Friday.

Looks like its about time for an update.

So, first order of business I decided to not go with a purple valve cover. I decided on wrinkle black and the valve cover is at the powder coater right now.

Second, I received a call from C&S yesterday(thursday) notifying me that the block was done. Got back from school today and went to pick it up.

but first i needed to tear down the old engine and get it off the stand.

debris any one?
