It all started exactly 1 year ago when I bought this Evo IX...November '07. Since then it's been exactly what i've wanted...fast in a straight line, fast through the turns, and comfortable enough to be a daily driver....all on PUMP gas. The car made over 500whp on daily basis on pump gas and did not falter. Trip after trip to the track it ran consistent 11.1s at 127-128 with my horrible 1.7-1.8 60's.
It went from bone stock to it's current setup in about 6 months...

One fateful day 2.5 months ago this all came to an end. After a trip to the track a loud rattling sound developed...we all thought it was a spun bearing...which I would not have been surprised by considering I was spinning the motor to 9k on a stock motor. Once I tore it down, a different culprit revealed itself; an improperly tensioned timing belt led to 15 bent valves and 1 broken one leaving some decent carnage behind.
This is what has led me to my newest project...
Over the past couple weeks I have been collecting the parts I need to get my baby back on the road. This time 500whp will be a disappointment. The goal...650whp...daily driven. My other main goal is to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 ft/lbs. This time around, i'm ditching the tried and true 2.0L and going with a 2.3L. I've always been a proponent of the 2.0L but I want to try something new!
The new build will consist of these main components...
Mahle 9.5:1 stroker pistons
Manley rods
Eagle stroker crank
GSC CNC'd head
On to some pics of the current carnage...

If all goes well the Evo should be back on the road in the next couple of months. A quick break in and then a trip to the dyno in DC for another Brad Brooks tune. After that, don't be shocked to see the car for sale. ;) I have this itch to go back to the a certain Lexus project I never finished. Those who know me know exactly what i'm talking about.
Till next time...stay tuned.
