I've had a few people interested in seeing pictures of my car so I'll start off with some history and work my way to the current.

The begining
I was introduced to DSM's in 97 thanks to my brother. We later fixed his friends 91 GSX by putting a used engine and tranny into it. I got to drive it for a few months due to his friend breaking his right arm. I fell in love with 1st gens and had to own one. One day my friend calls and says, go take out $750, I found a shell for you. So with out question, I ran to the bank, and grabbed some cash. He borrowed a flatbed from work and went to pick up a car. One look and it was perfect. Rather clean body with a blown engine. 11/13/03 I brought home my first DSM

We brought it home at night;

Daylight

And the broken heart;
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/old%20talon/IM003642.jpg

So the plan was drop a JDM engine in and use this as my winter car. I also changed the brakes and a few other items to get things running.

So the swap began just in time with snow falling.

Didn't realize I hit submit but the story continues.

I drove the car through winter and loved it. I put some snow tires on the stock wheels and painted them black. As summer came the car needed more work. So I replaced the shocks with GR2's and added an Eibach Pro Kit. I also replaced all the suspension bushings with Energy Suspension Poly bushings. I also added my brothers Rota's and decided to keep it around during the warm months.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/old%20talon/IM004229.jpg

Next came some mods. I blew my 14b so I picked up a new ported Evo 3 16g, RRE downpipe with a VRS catback. Upgraded some other items including a maft and afc.

The years with no pics
My computer sh*t the bed before I managed to back up some pictures. Basically I was running a JDM long block with my Evo3 16g turbo, Evo3 o2 housing, RRE downpipe and Magnaflow Muffler. I had a 255hp pump, Aeromotive Regulator, FIC 650 injectors, DSMChip, Maft and AFCII. I picked up a ETS ic from the early years and was running a Tial bov. I relocated the battery with a functional kill switch and used a Marosso battery box. I removed the rear seat because I traveled a lot and wanted more space. I dynoed the car and was putting down 294 at the wheels on 20psi.

The undocumented engine swap
Short story, My bro had a misshap with his 96 with a 6 bolt swap so I took his engine. It was a Ross piston, 1g rod engine, with crower springs, stainless valves and bronze guides. Ran the HKS 264/272 combo with a SBR 50 Trim. Also had a SFP exhaust mani and Dejon intake mani. This was a lot of fun. Never tracked the car, but it was around 350awhp. But we decided to part that engine out since I was going back to a winter car.

Time for the present
So about a full year ago I took my car of the road for the summer. I picked up a short block that was bored .040 with 2g pistons and 1g rods that were shot peaned. New oil pump, no balance shafts. I had a head cleaned up and fitted with new stainless valves, bronze guides and SI springs. I have a set of 272's chilling when I decide I have enough cash for a bigger turbo. I sent my tranny out to Shep for the 2nd time to take care of a leak :( and well it has double synro 1-4, 4 gear spider, and well everything he can put into it thats upgradable, lol. I will have a act 2600 and street disc with an ACT flywheel.

So I thought, lets do some cleaning, out came the engine.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon003.jpg
The primer spots were some bare metal areas I hit with primer since I then power washed the engine bay... you'll see.

I'm a mini trucker and we love shaving things. So I took my welder and grinding wheel and had some fun. (Note, no filler was used, just metal. all the primer spots are where holes were)
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon007.jpg

Then came time to clean up the subframe... since its out. POR-15 was used on these parts.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon003-1.jpg

After
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon0063.jpg

Remember that nasty looking engine bay that looked like a cow exploded?
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon005-1.jpg

So I got the idea to run stainless lines for my brakes. I also decided I would run AN line for my fuel since those were looking unstable.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon001.jpg

Hour later
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/001.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon002-1.jpg

Guess what?! I trashed all of those lines. Even with a $400 flaring tool I had sealing issues and ruined a proportioning valve. You'll see what I did later

DSM Rook

Moving right along. I assembled the engine with some arp's and a metal head gasket and dropped that into my now fresh engine bay.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon001-2.jpg
Note, I modified my timing engine mount and swapped over to black bushings. Also I swapped to a manual rack with new inner and outter tie rods, and boots.

Shep tranny also looking pretty

Just about ready to fire
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon002-4.jpg

So I pushed it outside and fired the car up. I put in my 272's because I realized I no longer had a stock set of cams. I also picked up punishment o2 housing with dump.

I hate you rust, I hate you
So the car runs great. I take it down 3 miles to the gas station to fill up. God damn I miss this car. It vibrates a bit more with fresh poly engine mounts and new poly subframe mounts, but damn its nice.
I return home from getting gas and park in the garage. I come back in to smell gas. WTF? I have a new filler neck so its not that. None of my AN fittings were leaking....

The return line cracked...

Thanks for tuning in. Last time we left off at my leaking fuel line...

Most normal people would repair the line and continue boosting away. I've been told I'm not normal. So what do you do when you have a leaky line?

Drop the rear subframe
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon006-2.jpg

Then drop the tank and the lines
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/stuff009.jpg

Then your left with a rusty underbody. Aren't ya glad I drive winters?
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/stuff007.jpg

I layed on a creeper just sadened by the site. So out came the power washer, scrub brushes and some cleaners. My garage floor got a good cleaning as well, lmao. Then onto the POR-15.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon003-5.jpg

But then a friend on a local forum said, thats nice but would look better white. And well I listened...
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon003-6.jpg

Lets get sidetracked

So while I'm working on the underbody I'm also doing things to the interior. I don't give a sh*t about weight reduction. I'd rather a real street car. So with that in mind as well as some comfort, I picked up a lot of Fat Mat.

Halfway to quiet.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon003-4.jpg

Not too quiet, I picked up all new infinity speakers. Components up front with tweeters in the dash, 5.25" in the doors with a cross over. An amp will be mounted under the seat with some 6x9's in the rear.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Speaker.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon001-7.jpg

Go go gadet!!

How bout a neat turbo timer location?
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talondash005.jpg

I wanted my center vent back as I do plan to put Air Conditioning back into the car. Yes, call me a bitch.

So I wanted my gauges where my controls were. But what to do with the controls?
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talondash002.jpg

Ready for fiberglass. I plan to glass the controls flush. I removed the overlays so I can add them back. In this location everything is fully functional. Even the lights.

Stainless brake lines are cool...
... when someone else makes them. I packed up my brake lines... ALL of them, even the clutch line. I sent my lines off to Classic Tube located in upstate NY. I kinda got laughed at when I told them what kind of car I had since no one has ever requested lines. But anyway off my lines went. The master to prop valve, prop to front, prop to rear, and the front connector line for the soft lines. Oh and the clutch. I pretty much failed with trying to make my own. I could not get the Master to proportioning valve to seal.
So 1 month later at a cost of $300 (plus about $50 total in shipping) I have these... rather sexy pieces.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/brakelines001.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/brakelines004.jpg

So once you go stainless... You get stainless hardware...

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon009.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon011.jpg

Now remember that nasty ass subframe? With saggy rubber bushings? and lame active toe links?

Well I contacted Chuck at Bonehead Performance. I was pleased with my valve cover he did for me so I took a little road trip down to NJ with my rear subframe, mustache brace, trailing arms, lower arms, and some mounts. I really enjoyed meeting him and his dad and seeing their powdercoat colors. Awsome place, I recommend them, pleased with everything.

Before I jump to those pictures. I picked up a set of Jay Racing toe link eliminators.

We don't need no water let that motha focka burn!!!
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Toe%20Link%20Eliminator/subframe006.jpg

Some welding and minor changes...
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Toe%20Link%20Eliminator/subframe007.jpg

So after powdercoat... Mirror Black

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/subframe003.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/subframe010.jpg

Now I also need to thank JNZ Tuning for dealing with Mitsu. These guys helped me find a lot of stock parts from eccentric bolts, dust shields, e-brake cables, wheel bearings, ect. Just a good shop to deal with. I'm not trying to advertise these people as I get nothing from it but, more of a heads up. I've delt with a lot of big names. When I find a good shop, I stick to it.
My new subframe mounts and new bolts from JNZ, powdercoated by Bonehead Performance
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon001-8.jpg

I also cleaned up my new 4 bolt with LSD and added new seals
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon003-3.jpg

So I'm still going to need fuel. Since afterall I did have a broken line. I do not plan on having crazy horse power with this car. Its not my style and well... this car WILL SEE WINTER. So I'm running -6 feed and return line.

To make it simple I bulk headed the sending unit and made a custom fitting for my pump using part of the stock unit...
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon001-5.jpg

Don't mind the blue bulk heads, my black ones will be here tomorrow (yes, all focking black fittings)
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/tank001-1.jpg

So I'm at the point of mock up. I decided my fuel filter would be better under the car. I don't want to look at it.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/tank001.jpg

So I wait for my 2 45* fittings to arrive tomorrow

Thanks for the comments everyone. I have a few friends who ask me to do this to their car BUT up next will be a black on charcoal 93 for my dad.

Anyway just so you all know, this will be a year round car. I live in CT so we get snow and well I have snow tires ready on 2g wheels (which I need to paint black)

I'm doing all of this to kind of bring the car back to 1990 and start over. I'm planning to have this my daily driver. I do plan on a bigger turbo, but why not? I love driving this thing.

I hope to have my fittings in tonight for the fuel system. I'm also waiting on AN line wrenches which should be here tomorrow. Right now I have the front subframe out to make the RMDSM front swaybar fit. What a pain in the ass this thing is.

Todays lesson. Its damn near impossible to drill a 2nd front sway bar mounting hole.

I picked up a pair of RMDSM sway bars for my car a while back through a groupe buy. Well I decided to tackle this project. Thing is, I couldn't use the stock bar to subframe U bracket since the bar is a hole lot bigger.

Well I started off marking the hole with a punch (still not sure how I got it in there) Then started the hole with a dremel and carbide bit. I could not get my right angle drill in there with any bit. So after a while of boring I was able to use a small uni-bit and right angle die grinder. Well a lot of dremeling, 3 uni bits later I managed to make my 2 bolt holes and mounted my swaybar.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Swaybar002.jpg

You can see in this picture the bushings provided with the bar use 2 bolts. (not to mention they didn't even give the correct size, So I used some old bolts) You'll also see the access hole I drilled to fit a wrench with a nut taped to it, inside. (I painted the holes and used a grommet plug to close it off)
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Swaybar004.jpg

Tomorrow I'll be securing my new Black bulkheads to the tank and putting the pump and sending unit together and in with some new stainless hardware.

Ha, I need more space. My basement is full of parts, theres basically a walkway rather then an open room. In my garage we do have a lot of tools and tool boxes. I can't open my doors all the way. I have foam pads taped to the boxes so the door can rest on them :/

As for the rack, I worked for a year at a DSM shop and they had one. I did some work and they gave it to me. I've had it for a few years. Its nice but extra turns. I picked up a spare colum and plan to experiment with a ratio box. For ever turn you make, it does 2. I just dunno how that will end up.

Thanks everyone. I love details, but it sucks because I can never make up my mind. After I cleaned up the wiring I got to thinking about moving the fuse box. Then I started seeing others who did it so now I have to go back and do that... But after winter, lol.

Anyway my AN wrenches and fitting tester came in today so I'll start making some fuel lines. Hopefully I can get something done. It sucks having a busy day at the dealership only to come home and keep working on cars.

Looks good! I just took the secondary front swaybar off of mine (Suspension techniques). I guess it promotes understeer reallly badly and you just want to run the stock sway with poly bushings.

Mine drives like a giant go-kart without it :D

I've heard and read about front sway bars. Just trying it first hand to really understand the effects of different combo's. I'm planning a good coil over set up this spring, just want to know what does what on these cars for myself. I still have my stock bar with poly bushings and can swap back.
Thanks for the info though.

Rustoluem High performance Enamel. I know I'll mess it up so I just figure, go cheap!

Well I was hoping they would work good BUT... They do not work on all fittings or all parts of the fitting. They seem to work on the end where you screw the line onto a fitting. As far as say the piece you push the hose into, these wrenchs won't fit. I put that end in a vise. What I would like to do is find another set and have them machined for the in between sizes. I've always seen them in magazines and these were the cheapest I've seen so I went for it. So far I am putting them to use, just not as much as I had hoped for.
I would say if you take your fittings on and off a lot or use these fittings a lot they are nice to have rather then risk the finish on the fittings. Or put a piece of tape around the fitting before you use a regular wrench.

Its brighter, but put a clear over it and it dulls. (clear over whites can almost yellow the color. That didn't happen with mine but took some of the brighness down) Now toss in some dust from driving and that tones the white down even more. I painted around my power steering resivour a while back with it and no one ever noticed.

Its friday night and my bitch is on top... Yea well I spent most of tonight under my car. I'm mostly done with the fuel lines. I have to mount my Fuel Lab regulator, put a rail back in and cut the feed line to length and then make a rail to regulator line. Those items will be for breakfast.

But since everyone loves pics, heres more :D
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Fuel002.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Fuel003-1.jpg

I tried to fit the braided line on either side of the stainless hardline but my brackets just wouldn't work that way so I shifted my lines over. I also checked to make sure they would be far enough away from the exhaust and they will be. I may either put a heat guard sleeve over the line or wrap my exhaust, dunno yet?

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Fuel005-1.jpg

Thats all. If I can get those remaining items done in the morning I'll be happy. I'll drop the tank and set the bulk heads and sending unit in place and then bolt everything up with some more stainless hardware.

I have some house work to do so I may not get done what I'd like. :/

Thanks man. I was just looking through your pics. I was planning to go with a Green but am leaning towards a 3052 I think. I don't really care as much for the track as just having a fun year round car with some power.

Car looks good though, good luck with getting those last few items. I also like the white booster. I've been waiting to flip a coin on whether I want to paint it white. I just think it won't be so noticable. Now its a big black ball in the corner...

I just showed my brother your car and still can't decide if I want the booster white or black... I don't really need to take it out.

As for the lines, I tried making my own stainless and well they kicked my ass. I made 1 line 4 times and couldn't get the damn flare right. So I sent my stockers out to Classic Tube to be copied and they are really nice. Cost me $300, then about $50 total in shipping. They are in upstate NY, way up there.

And a small update, got my fuel lines all set. I need to mount the regulator and make a rail to regulator line. Tank is all set up to go back in. Spent most of the weekend painting my parents house and doing new trim. I hate house painting... it focking blows.

So I'm just about done with my fuel system. I need to come up with a new regulator mount, then make my rail to regulator line. I Bolted up the fuel tank, breather line, filler neck and all my lines for good.

Some other pics of fuel parts,

Sending unit with 255 pump. I cut the stock tube, drilled out a weldable -6 fitting, pressed the tube into it. Had a friend tig weld it (since I don't have access to one) then painted it with a fuel sealer paint. Union to my bulk head.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Fuel001-1.jpg

So the return line has a metal line going down into the tank. I figured there was a reason for this, probably to direct fuel to the bottotm and keep it from dumping at the top of the tank causing bubbles. SO I made up a new line with fitting to keep this

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Fuel003-2.jpg

Mounted
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Fuel005-2.jpg

Lastly the tank all closed up. I managed to pick up some stainless nuts and lock washers for the sending unit. Also I found black bulk heads so I bought those just to keep with the black fitting theme.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Fuel007.jpg

Tomorrow my front subframe will go up and then I hope to assemble my rear subframe and get that up for the weekend. Once thats done I can start building the engine that is suppose to be in the car, and pull the current engine out. Its a dumb story but theres a reason.

I think this is the site. I know they were called "Cover It" but I think this is the site http://www.sheltersofamerica.com They aren't that cheap. We have the one where the center top section is a lighter material to let light in. We had one start leaking there so they replaced it (which took a lot of bitching) I would just get the solid cover.

Every 255 install kit comes with one. It honestly doesn't really do a damn thing. My last one was on there for 5 years. That pump is in very securly. Honestly I have stainless zip ties and don't really like them at all. I appreciate your concern, but I'm honestly not worried. :D

They make a lot of products. You can go to their site at www.por15.com They have a rust sealer paint. Some people like it, others don't. Theres a lot of prep work to do while using it. There are some products out there getting a better review. The stuff I used on my sending unit is a fuel tank paint made to seal the inside of the tank.
Prices are all on the site, I buy straight from them. Also buy some rubber gloves and a lot of paint brushes. Don't get it on you, it'll take a few days to wear off.

Ok, couple more things. Subframe is actually up in the car. Tomorrow I have to press in my bushings for the lower arms and then set my toe link eliminators and bolt all of that up as well as set my new ebrake cables. Then hopefully drop the car on the ground, push it outside, turn it around, push back inside and pull the engine, lmao.

Anyway, fuel lines fully mounted. I also cut to access holes for the rear diff in the floor which have blockoff gromets in to keep it sealed.

Time for an update!

As of right now the engine that was in the car with 6 miles on it, is out.

Short story
Had a JDM engine in my car for most of its life. My bro had a forged piston/1g rod 6 bolt in his 96. He later decided to sell his 96 in rather stock form. SO I gave him my JDM engine for his 'built' 6 bolt.
I decided to have it checked out by a reputable builder and cleaned up. During that time I came into a 1g/2g short block and threw a head on it with some stainless valves and crower springs. I dumped it into my car knowing it would end up in a 93 I picked up for my dad.
I got my car running with the dolled up engine bay, drove to the gas station and back, 6 miles. I noticed the smell of fuel, after checking my car out I found the hard return line had a hole in it which caused me to rip apart my rear half. Shortly after my other short block was done.

SO this is why I'm playing musical engines. The engine going in is a Ross piston, 1g rod. New oem pump, no balance shafts. I'll be mating the head up with a mitsu multi layer head gasket and some arp studs. The head has stainless SI valves, bronze guides and SI dual springs. Stock cams are going in for now but I have a set of HKS 272's waiting for me to save for a bigger turbo. I'll be running my ported EVO3 16g turbo with my new FP manifold which just came back from Jet Hot. I'm keeping my Punishment Racing o2 housing with dump. I'll be fabbing up a new upper ic pipe to mate with my Magnus which I picked up from a buddy for helping him on his cars. I have a new ACT flywheel to go on with my old 2600/street disc which has some life left. That'll help me break in my Shep tranny which has double syncro 1-2 and 3-4 with a 4gear spider and all the other upgradable goodies.

Oh and all of this on some 2g 5spoke rims with Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires :D

I'll get some pics of the engine crap later on. Feeling a bit under the weather so I'm slackin.

You need to modify the inner dash support. I snapped a couple pics along with my mount for the control knobs (note, the mounting plate was sheet metal, I picked up a piece of aluminum from loews and used that so its a little nicer and stronger)

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/old%20talon/driver.jpg

Now once you get to here it'll take you a couple tries as to getting the cable just right in that metal clip. You'll have to rotate the knob fully and adjust as needed.

Hope this helps.

It gives the cables a more direct root. You should be able to tell by the pics roughly where to cut. I used a uni bit that goes up to 7/8" because I wasn't exactly sure where to drill, give a little extra room.
Good luck.

I recall you put some dynamat on the floor, do you plan to, um, improve the interior in any other way? Doesn't it rattle with the poly mounts? I'm asking since it looks you're going religious on this car :) I'm going to tear my car apart in a month and dynamat (well, raammat and other types) all of the sheetmetal inside and also pad all the hollow interior plastic pieces so they don't rattle anymore. I hope this will make the interior feel a lot more solid and classier. Another option is also filling them with great stuff. I'm going to check out the local stores for other ideas.

My car vibrates more then a cheap hotel coin operated bed. I'm using FatMat as recommended by a few friends who do stereo stuff. I have lined the front half of the car and will do the rear half as well. I hope to have enough for the doors. Interior wise I've used loctite on all the bolts and will be using felt tape or foam tape between some panels as well as around some of the clips.

I do have new poly engine mounts, no blance shafts, poly subframe bushings front and rear as well as poly suspension bushings. My car is stiff to say the least. My dash was actually cracked, the plastic around one of the mounting holes. I tend to think it was from vibrations because it was not there when I bought the car.

Other interior mods are Sparco seats, Home Depot carpet from the firewall to the rear wall, no rear seats, battery in the trunk, Inifinty speakers and amp and a small tool kit (what dsmer doesn't have tools?)

Hope this helps you some. My interior was rather quiet, but with some more changes I hope it stays that way. I plan to drive this car year round and I have taken it on long trips, such as 6 hours, so comfort is a concern.

LOL, well I work at a Porsche dealership so I kind of know what a nice car should be like. I figure the little things I'm doing will give me a bit more comfort. I'm putting a/c back into the car this spring and also the FatMat has a shipped weight of 30lbs. I think I'd rather have comfort and a quieter car then worry about that little bit of extra weight. Those heims are QA1's which are teflon and carbon lined I believe. They are designed to keep dirt out. I've run heims on my mini truck for about 5 years. I oiled them with every oil change and they showed no signs of wear. BUT just incase, I have a spare set of heims already :D

And thanks for the comments. If I didn't drive the car in winter it would go against my beliefs. The car was bought for winter, it'll keep seeing winter. All of this work is just in hopes that I won't have to deal with suspension parts going bad, things beyond rusting, lines bursting, ect.

Need to go out and grab a heli coil kit as 2 exhaust stud holes are shot. I picked up some stainless fasteners for them and my new Jet Hot coated FP mani will go on with some new mitsu hardware. Then I shall polish the crap outta a Magnus donated to me by a good friend and get my water pipe and neck transfered over along with my turbo and see if I can get the engine in tonight or tomorrow morning. Also picked up a new brake master cylinder and will be installing the rest of my new stainless brake lines. Stay tuned, more updates through out the weekend.

They are Noltec, made for a Galant, but can fit a dsm... with some "shimming" I do believe I know the ones from the GVR4 board as well. Look very nice, have yet to see if they fit the dsm.

On another note, the car runs and drives!!!
Got the car fired up with no real issues. 1 fuel fitting has a slight leak. I replaced it and it still seems to seep a little bit. Either I have 2 bad Earls fittings or a bad end on the Fuel Lab filter :(

Ok, so I got the car running. I'm still messing with the clutch and need to bleed the brakes again.

I was suppose to throw on a Magnus donated by my friend but upon further inspection I found a crack in the weld. What a surprise. He didn't even know about it and think it came on the last track day. Oh well, stocker for now.

But here's some pics since people like pics.

Last time I snapped pics, it was Timing Time. sooo, with all the new timing parts, why not new covers?

Engine in, new ACT flywheel thrown in for sh*ts and giggles with new bolts.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon023.jpg

With everything in and running I had to reuse my nasty old exhaust and drive shaft. I'm planning on a stainless exhaust this spring and maybe powdercoating the drive shaft? For winter it'll do.

They should fit perfectly. The subframes are supposed to be identical. And the bushings are advertised as 1G AWD DSM/GVR4.

In any case I'll know very soon. :)

The Noltech subframe bushings were just smaller in diameter then my subframe. Had to make a shim. Either way let me know when you get those in. I'll be building a car for my dad so I may use those.

92_TaLoN_DSM- I've only ordered through JNZ, but they definatly seem to know their stuff. I'm hoping to take a trip out there some weekend for the hell of it and meet some of the guys.

There are a couple pics towards the beginging of the thread. I'm reusing what I had although I may change it next year if I come across more. I honestly won't have carpet in for another couple weeks while I finish other things on the interior. I will throw some pics up when that time comes.

If you're looking for carpet though, places like accmats.com sells it by the yard with no backing so it should be easier to work with. Unless you can find a place that sells boat carpet or car carpet.

That link I posted will sell you what ever length of unmolded carpet you need. Or check places like Home Depot or Boating supply stores. The carpet I used is, indoor outdoor marine carpet. Its like regular carpet but very thin with a thin rubber backing so its super easy to work with. Its also very light. I used 1 piece from front to rear. I think I bought a piece 15feet long by maybe 8foot wide? Not sure how wide it was.

DAMN I LOVE THIS CAR

So I took the car out tonight to get some gas and man it felt great to be driving it again. I still have a fair amount of work to do. My gauges need to be hooked up. Need to make 1 more fuel line and install my Fuel Lab regulator and most importantly finish the interior.

Anyway, heres a shot of the engine before I went out. Mostly the same but I put my new FP manifold which I had Jet Hot coated. I also made a new upper IC pipe from the maf to the tb. I'd really like to get some aluminum piping, maybe once the magnus is repaired.

Thanks for the comments. I sure as hell miss this thing. I've been running just off the wastegate while I get some miles on it but man the car feels great.

What I have instore;
Mess with the rear toe link eliminators to get the alignment a little better. I also plan to look into some front camber plates or try to shift the subframe around as my caster is out a bit as well as my camber. I may have a deeper issue but we're slow at work and we have a nice hunter rack to use :D

Also I have a Fuel Lab gold and black regulator to put in as well as black fittings and a fuel pressure sender for my inside gauge. That will replace whats there and that regulator will go in another car.

The interior work is left.
I just put some fiberglass on my hvac controler relocation.
My gauges are not wired yet, but are fitted.
Stereo needs to be fully wired.
Finish the FatMat install to get things a bit quieter
Carpet and panels need to go back in
A pair of Sparco's to go in

Future plans:
Summer tires for my new rims
Suspension- Possibly Koni's with GC's and camber plates

If I get some crap sold off, Turbo/exhaust/injectors/better managment

So thats about all. Interior photo's will go up as I finish. Then its off to another car build for my dad. Simple, clean, reliable 1gb.

:D Have a good new years everyone!

I don't think there's a lot special to the wiring. The AEM gauges have a harness so that takes care of that. The lights for the fan and hvac controls were made from the lights out of the center console cigg lighter and ash tray. The fan switch has its own that I'll tie into the 2 replaced hvac controls and then will be connected to the original plug

As for gauge mounting, I made a plate which gets sandwhiched between the fan/defrost portion and using 2 large nuts and the stock screws gets held to the bezel.

I'm still keepin busy!

So I've been daily driving the car and all has been well *knock on wood*. I've put a couple 2 hour trips on and have made it over a 1k miles. I started getting some of the interior together but before that I wanted to continue to make it quiet. I didn't think I would really notice the improvement but I do. Oh and as for weight savings, screw it.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon002-10.jpg

So after making things quiet I laid my carpet back in and bolted up my Sparco's donated by my brother :D

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon008-3.jpg

Then the dash was put back together. My heater control relocation is almost done. I need to touch up the bezel and adjust the radio to fit better.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/talon013-1.jpg

So now it's time to get the rear plastics in. Once thats all done I'll get back to the heater control bezel and wire the lights back in for the controls. Then I have to bring it through emissions and then do some tuning.

Shortly after getting my car back on the road I started to notice some wheel bearing noise coming from the right front. Mind you my rear wheel bearings are new, even with new dust shields for the brakes. So Monday a call went out to JNZ Tuning where I had a chat with Erik. He got me set up with new front wheel bearings, seals, snap rings and for shitts and giggles, new front dust shields for the brakes.
Friday I get home from work to see a lovely box from JNZ at my door. Passenger side came apart, new bearing in, new seals and the spindle and hub got some fresh black paint. I'll do the driver side next weekend (have some house work to do)

Oh the joy of doing a bunch of work at once. Minor updates. Ported the oil filter housing pressure relief do to extremely high oil pressure. My Flex-a-lite fan shit out on me and I got my Fuel Lab regulator in. I also bailed on A/C. Most of my driving is early in the morning or at the end of the day/night so... that made room for my new fan. I also threw in a set of HKS 264's.

Picked up a Spal 12" fan. This thing huffs some air too. Doesn't run nearly as long as my Flex-a-lite. I also picked up a 2nd 10" fan but need to get some mounting straps. This will be a back up or if I get stuck in traffic this summer.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/TalonFan004.jpg

And my fuel lab regulator. Honestly, just for looks, but I did need my Aeromotive for my dads car so it didn't go to waste :D

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n76/Built2Drive/Talon/Talon001-13.jpg

Only pics I have are the engine shots. Not sure what you maybe looking for. Details are the bases are; 1/8" flat stock that I plasma cut and then ground down. (I actually tack welded the 2 together and ground them so they are the same) Then drilled my holes using a cardboard template I made. The tubing is 7/8" DOM tubing. I forget the wall thickness but its 1/4 or 3/16". The main straight pipe ends were cut by bandsaw. The circle plates were bolted down and then the car jacked up part way to relielf the strut towers. The main cross bar was tacked in. Then the supports were cut by bandsaw and then fishmouthed by hand. Then everything was tig welded. Took a few hours.

Thanks again for the comments. I actually got bored and decided to try and make a new shorter throttle cable. Soon I hope to get to a dyno and get some tuning done (the one thing I suck at. I can build, not tune :()

Not much going on at the moment. I picked up a 90 non turbo throttle body from Throttlebodies.com. I was having some leak issues as well as sensors. Steve there is an excellent guy to deal with. I'll be installing that and modifying my upper pipe.
Other things, kenwood sub enclosure going in under my passenger seat just to get the stereo finished off (small thing just to have a broader range of sound) Also been picking up parts to go "bigger" I'm looking to put a 3052 in. I've picked upa mint used tial 44 and FP o2 housing. Selling some parts so I can get bigger injectors. I'm also putting a S10 pick up together to sell which will help fund my turbo and ecm link. Also with that I'll probably end up building a full new exhaust. And mainly... this is my winter car as my snow tires are still on it :D
