View Full Version : The first 420a to 4g63 conversion (that i know of)
1gawd4g63

I just picked up an extremely clean 2gb talon esi with a blown engine for REAL cheap, and i thought to myself "what a great platform for a 4g63 conversion". I was first gonna rebuild the 420a and sell it until i did some measuring on a gsx that i have sitting at my place with the engine out. I found that all the inner fender structure is exactly the same other than the driver side where the 4g mount bracket goes, there is a outer covering there. Under that is exactly the same panel that the 4g car has. So in theory if in cut the spot welds on the 4g donor shell off and weld it into the n/t body along with the transmission mount bracket from the passenger side along with the 4g sub frame and cross member than the 4g63 and 2g tranny will directly bolt in. The plan is to take the wiring harness's, fuel lines, power steering lines (the rack is the same), pump, and pretty much everything else from the turbo car and install it on the n/a car. I am not doing this just to have a 2g turbo car, i would buy one if that is what i wanted. I am basically just wanting to do the first documented conversion, and i am in the process of designing a website for the entire build, as well i will be posting pics up in the next few days of me removing everything from the n/a car getting it ready for the turbo parts from the donor car. I hope you guys enjoy this.

50$ says you never finish this project and it never runs.

You guys dont know 1gawd4g63. The guy knows his shit and it will get done if he says it will. Its not hard for someone who knows exactly what needs to be done. Its hard and expensive for someone if theyre not familiar where to get parts for cheap and dont have a turbo car to compare it with directly.
1gawd4g63, its been done a couple times, guys over at tuners have done it. I've considered this since there are some many clean as hell 420a shells out there for basically free and people have a tendancy to want 3k for a decent gst or gsx shell.
If your decent with welding and have a car to compare parts with, then its cake as long as you have a cheap parts source. But I guess I'm more comfortable with those sorts of things than most.

Good luck with the project. Nevermind the negative posts!! If you think you can do it and have the skills and resources for then go ahead. I would like to see a write up and pics of the progress.

The negative posts are nothing personal. People get on here all the time claiming they are the McGyver of dsm fabrication and that they can do crazy shit that no one else can. I would like to see someone actually finish a swap that they start.

Don't think of it as negatives, think of it as motivation.

If you've seen the dude's other fab work, like the 4G in a, well, 3G, you'd know he's got it. Nom nom nom 2GB.

Hmm, so will this project turn out like his other 3 or so he posted up here. Talking up a bunch of shit with no proof to back himself up when everyone calls him out? I still have yet to see this 420a-t car that he "owns/owned" which makes over 500whp that all of a sudden blew up when I told him to post pictures and dyno sheets.
Won't believe anything until I see something. And what is the big deal with people wanting to swap a 4g63 into a 420a car? Just buy a GST, better yet, a GSX and save yourself time and money and put that into modifications instead of fabrication.

He wont finish it. Can he do it? I don't know, i don't know the guy, if you say he can then ok he can. Will he? No. That's why 50$ says he wont. Would the OP like to take the bet?

The conversion isn't hard. A hack-job local shop here has done it.

Youve got this guy confused with x97dsmx. The op was the guy that proved him wrong by actually posting up pics of how to do it. He then proceeded to post pics of their 4g into a 3g swap. Why the hell would a n/t 2g be harder than that I have no idea.
Anyone who even has a remote clue about dsms and welded in high school can do this swap. Seriously. Its all the ricers that failed at it that make seem harder than what it is. My two cents. I'm normally of the "its a bad idea crowd" but thats because its normally some asshat doing the swap.

Good luck with the swap. Lets see pics and possibly a build diary of it in the process. That woudl be cool.

I big part of the build diary section is to show Pics, which this thread has none of. Please post some up.

OP, as stated in the rules, you need to provide progression pictures of the build. Your thread is almost a page long and other then your initial post, you have not posted. Update this before it gets locked.
Thanks

I would like to know how to do this because my 420a is down right now so I figured that I would go ahead an just swap it to a 46g3.
