As many of you know, I've been dying to get back into the scene. I didn't want to do another DSM per say, and I defiantly wanted a sleeper of sorts (due to my history of having cars stolen, or robbed/vandalized). The search was on for a clean STOCK GVR4. I may have found the last one on earth. I picked up a 1992 GVR4 today. I'll be doing a full build thread in the moderator section, but for now I thought I'd share her with my online family........

I found one for sale about 3 hours away from me...I have never really looked for one but I wouldn't mind having one as seeing how they are rare and have the 4g63. That is cool. gsxlex, what do you think of this one? is the asking price kind of on the spendy side? I can't really judge this soley on kbb.

Lex, you must be so pumped. I would love to have time and money for a vr4...So big guy, what are your plans for it? Any Ideas? From the picture posted that thing is CLEAN. And yeah you hit the sleeper nail on the head with this find. I hope it stays that color.
EDIT: WEE, I CAN READ.
The purpose of this car is not to chase down a number, but to revive a passion. My goal is to race this car, and make it fun
And good call with the water to air. Keeping the car looking as is... is going to make me smile, for what that's worth.

I'm very familiar with the Drive train and powerplant of the car but this is the first Vr4 that I've owned so I'm learning a lot. My plans for this car is to clean it relatively stock looking. From the outside, I want it to look like a SLIGHTLY lowered, completely stock GVR4. I want to keep the stock wheels (again STOCK LOOKING) for daily driving but get a set of beefy track wheels. I plan on completely refreshing the drivetrain (engine, rear, trans, etc) but I am not going to turn this into a track only car. I want to enjoy driving this around on a semi-daily basis. I haven't decided what I am going to do for fuel management yet.
I plan on starting a build diary and documenting all of this.

Casey, From my search the is what I've observed. They seem to go for around $4k, in clean (stock) condition. If the car has been modded in a bad way (i.e. the car is really beat up and abused, You can pick one up for around 2.5-3.5k (clean shell goes for around 1.5-2k). IF you have the money and want to buy a very clean and nicely modified one (like the one that currently for sale in the classifieds), they are out there and can fetch a very hefty price.
Thanks everyone for all the positive comments, This community is a big motivation for me to do this.

Update: So I got a good deal on this car, partially because there was a drivetrain problem. Today I did some inspecting and found that (as I expected) the transfer case was bad. Now planned on taking her to get some pictures for this update, but instead dropped the bad transfer case on my finger and split it open (like a grape). I do have some pictures of my finger getting stitched up. As soon as the meds wear off, I'll post them up.
Also, moved this thread to the moderator build section.

Sadly, I do not. I"m having a hard time finding someone local that doesn't want to overcharge me. I did find one guy who was willing to give me one at at a great price, but our schedules haven't crossed yet.
I removed the old one to see what sort of condition it was in, but right now, I can barely type, let alone wrench.

Exactly. It's a vicious cycle with me. No matter how hard I try, I always seem to find myself on Craigslist at 2am, searching for DSM's.

03-29-2009, 09:57 AM
Sorry Chris, I guess I am due for an update. I haven't been able to do much other than collect parts for the car, since my finger is still healing. I was going to finish the new transfer case seals and throw it under the car today, but we've been getting so much rain down here that I really haven't the urge to climb under the car (or do anything to the car for that matter). I wanted to get it running and registered so I could drive it up to the Hooters's meet next weekend but it's not looking to good. other than that I really haven't done much with her. The problem is that the car is stored. 45 minutes from my house, so I try to get as much as possible ready so that the trip is worth it for me. If it dries up some, I'll go over there and throw the transfer case in, and maybe sample some pics of the car.

(small) UPDATE:
I've been so busy with school/work/wedding, that I've only had enough time to drive this car around (which I do very little because of the gas smell, but that's for another post). I decided I needed some stress relief to day, so I woke up really early to install my new Momo Wheel and NRG detachable hub. I couldn't be happier with this stuff. I went with the short hub adapter and the wheel distance is almost stock!
