Saturday May 30, 2009 - Dyno Day @ Appalachian Performance

5:30 - Blue Ridge Parkway Photoshoot
7:00 - Dinner @ Asiana Grand Buffett
9:00 - Until - Cruise in @ Patton Avenue

Sunday May 31, 2009 - DSM's @ The Tail of The Dragon

8:00 - Breakfast @ IHOP
9:30 - Head to the Dragon and make some passes
1:30 - Lunch at the local restraunt
2:30 - 5:00 - Indulge on the Dragon some more, then take some pics @ Fontana Dam
5:00 - Go Home

The reason we choose this weekend was because we thought this was far enough in advance for planning, plus, this gives us an opportunity to see some Nissan Skylines @ the Dragon. The Skyline camp is also holding a meet there this weekend and from the looks of it, there should be quite a few.

As far as the Dyno Day is concerned. We have not yet confirmed anything with Appalachian Performance, but these guys welcome Dyno Days and should have no problem with it. They are equipped with an AWD Mustang Dyno and John(The Owner) is a great tuner, if you wish to seek his services. One of the guys who works there is also a DSM guy, so I'm sure he would love to have us as well.

If you are interested or have any questions, please PM us or post in this thread. Adam and I have talked about opening up our homes to those who may need lodging. We know money can be tight, and if we can help you out, just let us know.

We think this could be a great event for years to come! Let us know what you think!

Here's an update on the Dyno info as of today.


Here is the deal.
-They need to know at least 1 month advance to plan for the event.
-It will cost $600 for 8 hours.

Now, let's talk about the number of vehicles and options
-He said he would like it to be 16 cars, but from the way he was talking, if we had one or two more, it would be ok.
-16 vehicles @ $600 = $37.50.
-Either 3 straight pulls or 2 Drag pulls w/ no tuning. You choose!

If less people sign up, let's say 8.
-The rate per car will go up to $75 per person.
-There will be tuning allowed, but we will have to distribute the time evenly across the board. Example, 8 people with 8 hours of available time equals 1 hour of Dyno time per person.


Ian said it was cool if I brought the grill down and cooked up some burgers and dogs. Add some chips and drinks in and we can eat pretty affordable.

How does all this sound to you guys?

I'll be a strong maybe on this, I really wanted to meet up with Who Farted and speed_demon and was sad that I had to call off the last trip. The end of may is a way better date for me to hold to.

I cant find one of my microphnes for the cameras, I will be bringing two digital setups. I should have time to find it or get another one. If anyone wants to set one up on their car and record their run on the Dragon bring an SD card. If we have the time and or place we can watch the runs on TV.

Haha. No, we won't have camping in the yard. If you need a place to stay send me a PM and i'll see what we can work out. We are still looking at a few different hotels and we're trying to get things setup where everyone can affordably stay at the same place. I'll let you guys know when we get this going.

That would be awesome. I am getting one of those GoPro cameras myself. I'm sure there are quite a few people who would enjoy watching the action. :D

cool just let me know about the hotel deal. I think I may have found a mic that will work at Radio shack. I am going to set up one of the cameras on the Talon this weekend. That way I'll have it down. they work great for wheelin I'm sure they will perform excelent on the cars. Like I said anyone that wants to record their runs make sure you get an SD card. I'll make a 12 volt connection that can be esily switched from one car to another. I have never done any editing but if someone is computer savy we could make up an awsome video.

I was thinking last night about coming up with some type of head piece that I can hook the cameras to. they are the size of a lipstick tube. that way when you guys are filming it will be exactly as you saw the intire run. checking gages watching your entrance into the 300+ curves? These things record sound so good if you fart in the seat it will pick it up. So you will hear all your shifts and the roar of your engines in digital seround sound.

Well, after some searching and talking we've decided on a place to lay your head for the nights you are here. Even though they do not offer any "group rates" with out a full deposit and exact number of rooms, we decided to go with the Super 8 in Black Mountain, NC. This is one of 2 hotels in Black Mountain that can accomodate our large group and the Super 8 is the cheapest by about $30 a night.

Price will be $70 a night from what the lady told me. However, they do honor AAA and most other discount cards.

Since they will not allow us to do a group reservation with out a full deposit up front, everyone needs to go ahead and reserve there rooms ASAP.

Ok everyone. Everything is set and ready to go at Appalachian Performance tomorrow. If you are going to be dynoing, please be there no later than 10am. Everyone coming to watch/hang/eat can show up whenever you like.

We will start grilling out at about 12:30pm for lunch and two big gas grills. We have plenty of food; if you want to bring drinks or chips feel free. We have quite a bit, but it will be close to 80 with a nice clear sky tomorrow. Dress accordingly.

All of these cars were daily-drivable, pump gas, street cars except the Mustang GT which was a slick-shod, trailered-in drag car running 112.



Highest horspower of the day was Dustin's Yellow Evo 8 at 430awhp. He received his dyno time for free and a t-shirt from Epic Motorsports.



2nd highest was Chris and his 1g Talon AWD(The Purple Monster) at 353awhp. He received half-off his dyno fee and a t-shirt from Epic Motorsports.



Mark and his 1g Eclipse received the "Most Epic Fail" of the dyno day when, after the second pull on the dyno, the harmonic balancer decided to snap apart, turning the alt belt into spaghetti. If you were watching the live feed you got to see the handful of "noodles" we had. Mark received a $50 gift certificate from Epic Motorsports and his buddy(I fail at names) got a t-shirt for helping Mark replace the balancer for the next couple of hours. Big thanks to the guys at Appalachian for letting them use the shop to fix the car.



Heather and her 2g Eclipse will get any one part under her hood powdercoated by Tirado Custom Coatings, for FREE! She will also receive 25% off anything else she wants to have coated. She get's this because her engine bay was the most "in need" at the meet. Now she we be able to have one of the nicest.





I want to thank all of the guys at Appalachian Performance for letting us use thier facilities and set up a couple grills to cook on.
