Teh newb's piece - '91 Talon

So, as some of you know, I couldn't deal with my eclipse because of my inadequacy, so I parted her out, and am trying to start all back over again. I'm in even deeper this time, but hey, I'm good at screwing up, so why not, lol. :dunno: :chair:

Right now, I'm just looking for a somewhat reliable DD with a little kick to it, hopefully around mid-high 12's when I'm "finished". It'll be my first 5sp awd car, so I'm sure that getting use to driving will be fun. I'd like to snag a e3 16g sometime in the near future, but got a deal on a 14b that I didn't want to pass up. It's gonna be complimented by some 680's, Walbro 255, a keydiver chip, afc2, 3" exhaust, FTS afpr, a stock 6 bolt rebuild done right (arps, acl's, etc), and a lot of small things.

The shell I picked up didn't come with a motor, ecu, turbo/mani, clutch, and a fmic and some other small bits and pieces. So far, I don't have all the money to finish this, but I have a lot of work that can be done for it, and things that I still have up for sale. It's in a "few" pieces, lol, but I have nothing but time right now, and figured I gotta start somewhere.

No recent pics at the moment, but I picked this up from Bustedsm, for $1500. It's black with the silver bottom, and stock 1g swirlies. Here's the ones I have...

I just picked up a 16g, 2g ex mani, aftermarket j-pipe, and a 2g o2 housing, hoping to god to get this all done within 2 months...I'll throw a few pics up in a while to show what I have ahead of me...

I'm gonna be picking up an act 2600 clutch and jrc intercooler that was supposed to come with the car, the seller and I just had brain farts, thank god I caught it. Now for the most part, all I need is a motor w/accessories.

On the 16g that I was gonna pick up, I already had a 14b, and the person I was gonna trade said he had a bigger housing for the 14b, which we ended up trading instead of the 16g, because of it being an eBay turbo.

If I can pull a mid 12 out of this setup, I'll be happier than a fat kid with some cotton candy, a corn dog, and a large coke. Depending on my money situation later on, I'm gonna either go with a new chip or Link, and try for e85, I'm thinking that the 680's just might be big enough for corn fuel with this turbo. Any thoughts?

I'm gonna go take a few pics and throw them up, the body is straight, but there are a few spots where the clear took a shit.

I would like to see some more pictures of the body. Have you looked into getting the little "fade" sticker that goes above the silver part? I am either going straight candy black on a 1g or candy black with the silver bottom. Haven't quite decided which one yet.

Edit: Umm....you said 5speed. That first picture is an auto....

It started out as a 5 sp, he had plans for an auto setup, then sold the auto stuff, and now its back to 5 sp...or going to be, lol. Most of the parts are on my living room being sorted out, I have a lot of reassembly to do.

Why are you hating on the ebay turbos? The 16g on my old 2.0 went for about ~50,000 miles at 24 psi for 3/4 of those miles and 18psi for the rest until I rebuilt it because of slight side-to-side shaft play. Should have went with the 16g imo

With that out of the way, the car looks sweet.

I already had the 14b, and from all the stories that I've heard, I'd rather not chance this on a iffy part. IMO, OEM > eBay parts, right now, speed is lower on the list than reliability while I'm in school.

And yes, it's gonna be a shit ton of work, and it's gonna be fun shooting for it being on the road in 2 months.

A few updates, I ditched the 14b idea, got an evo 3 16g on the way hopefully. I bought a parts car that broke my broke down dsm cherry, and plan on throwing the motor from that into this one after I do some freshening up, all new gaskets, arp's, and making it all look pretty. I've been cleaning up a little bit, I'm gonna do what I can to make this beast as clean as possible, and after I get the car on the road, and some money in the pocket, I got a hookup on paint and will be redoing the parts that have been peeling off clearcoat. If I get really rambunctious, I think I'm gonna have the exhuast and wastegate dumped on the passenger side of the front bumper, and also the roof spoiler from machv, both of which I've fallen in love with, no lie, lol. Possibly link in the future, just have other things to pay for first.

Well, shit didn't really go as planned, but nothing too horrible I guess, found out I don't have the right motor mounts, and I still have a lot left to do. My roomate and I got into an argument and his dad is the landlord so I'm moving out and just trailering it back up to my hometown in IL. I got my old school 5 knob SAFC wired in, and a few other small things, but she hasn't had too much prgress. Parts list has been updated and I'll be running a MHI s16g with the Bullseye "Monster" 8 cm exhaust housing on it. Not entirely sure yet what I want to do as far as how much I'm gonna pull off, but I'm at least going no a/c and powersteering.

Well...it's been a while, but I finally got my first paycheck in, and of course, it's going right back out, I have a FP Race manifold, AEM Uego, OEM Timing belt, and a lot of other misc small things on their way, just have to find time in between working my ass off nowadays to wrench on the neverending project.

Yea, it was a lot more than an arguement, I just can't say too much on the interwebs yet, I guess I have a restraining order on the way, and he's trying to pull a bunch of b/s, but eh, after it's all done, I'll have a "vent" thread, lol. Tell me about it man, this shit sucks. But yea, I'd have a f/s thread on here, but I can't get my camera to work, so idk it'll be a while. And yea, she is getting parted for sure, I'm gonna get something that runs and drives, trying to stay with a dsm, but whatever works I guess. As long as it's close to stock/reliable so I can just have something to drive until I'm out of school and have a decent job. Probably bolt-ons, etc, but nothing major.
