Hey guys, I'm back with my new and hopefully final build. I figured if I am going to go for it, I might as well go all out.

For the past few months I have been racing (track) and showing my prev. boosted Time Attack RX8:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/dkmovie6.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/dkclose.jpg

Naturally the DSM kept screaming for attention.. With the sell of the white Falco shell:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/dsm6.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/dsm8.jpg

I had enough money sitting in my car fund to get back in the game. A friend had some plans to move on to a small block FC project (everyone wants one of those...) and there was no way I was going to let his dreams die:

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k18/rally_blue/Cars/dsc_0093-1.jpg

Just like some of the greats of our past, Shep's car, Jake's car, etc. It was a sight lost and picked up and moved to the next level. I will be doing the same. My choice for the name Raven stems from the EAP poem under the same name. Considered by many to be the original "shocker" the breeding light behind all that we know today as situation, and suspenseful horror.

If you are lined up with the car, it will peer into your soul just as the Raven mentioned in EAP poem.

I present to you:

THE RAVEN! :evillaugh:

Looks beautiful and mean. Very much like the poem. I look forward to additional updates.

Lets get to the good stuff...

Many of you might remember the build I was planning to run with the Falco build:

Ross pistons/Groden Rods
Buschur lightned and knife edge crank
Head by Speed Injected 1mm over ported and sleeved.
Ferrea SS valves
Crower Springs
Magnus RACE intake manifold
Greddy Kevlar T-Belt
AEM adj. cam gears
1600cc FIC injectors
75mm Wilson TB
Buschur COP
NOS PRO Fogger kit
AEM EMS
BG 71.8mm S400 Turbo
FP 3x Cams
Moroso olipan
Kiggly girddle

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/0929081704b.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/0929081639a.jpg

Well thats going to make its way over to the Raven build minus the GTK1000 and instead a bigger s472 BW turbo. Also I am opting out to go with some BC280 cams opposed to the FP3xs to give the car a little smoother curve and give my valve train a break while its revving past 10k rpms.

The car arrived on the trailer Saturday morning and it was love at first sight:

The shell came complete with the cage and everything already in tact. It still has some more cage work to go and some more wiring that I will be doing myself, but all in all it is about as good as a starting point as any:

Hmmm, we have external positive and negative batt. Terminals as well as an on an doff switch, but what is that hole at the bottom for?:dunno:

Car has fresh paint but do to a trailer accident it'll need a little love to get back to the pristine condition I want it to be in:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/IMG00203-20090412-1144.jpg

Tranny cooler on the drivers side:

Sumped stock tank:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/IMG00208-20090412-1146.jpg

If anyone has a JMF stock location tank let me know.. Or yall wanna hook a brotha up? :D

Sleeper aint it?? With it being an auto and full exhaust albeit 4", the cage is nearly invisible (unless I coat it gooold!) there will be little to give off the status of the vehicle. (possibly the sumped tank?) It'll definitely be fun rolling this thing around the neighbor hood with the chute on the back...

And I know you're thinking.. "You aren't running singles on Kuhmos.." Well don't forget the ex evileagle QTP setup I will be running at the track:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/0925081727a.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/0925081719c.jpg

This 26" tall setup will be perfect for the gearing of the 3spd auto.

Many asked about the cage. I didn't have anything other than my cell phone to take my pics so they didn't come out as well as I wanted but I'll be getting better ones later on. These will do for now.

I was known for the tucked engine bay movement I started amongst the community,

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c246/J1D1H1_/1204071234.jpg

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c246/J1D1H1_/1203072200.jpg

So coming from that to this sight kind of had my stomach churning:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/IMG00237-20090412-1215.jpg

ALL of my hoses are AN lines so that will add bling but unfortunately are much harder to hide.. Certain SS hoses will be replaced with my proclassic lines to better hide them, other than that I'll make it work.

First things first, drop the main harness, shave all the holes, primer it, re spray, relocate fuse box and remove AC fuse box. It'll be a big project but nothing I haven't done before..

Tein suspension, I'll be switching to GCs

Custom Rad setup. Rad and intercooler can be removed in about 2-5 minutes and the fan doesn't even have to be taken off..

Breather with single -12an line. Most run dual 10s. I will be stinking with the single until further notice, if push comes to shove I'll move onto dual -12ans.

So now you're caught up to the show.. Updates will come as new stuff comes in. As before all the work will be done by myself so with the new Time attack/ Auto X season coming and my work schedule I hope to have the Talon done by the end of summer or mid Fall, at the very latest. I want to make at least one pass this season.

Good luck with this one... I would love to trade my perfect 2G FWD 5 speed/clutch set-up for a fully built 2g auto tranny. :(

Autos are doing crazy big things, Kevin (kiggly) pushed his to crazy limits and this tranny is the next evolution of that and hopefully will push things just as far. If the car becomes competitive enough I might just opt to go the FWD route as well later on.

Biggest benefit is the fact its easier on the drive train. this transmission is capable of doing a Trans brake but I'd never use it for the sole purpose I'm not trying to break a bunch of stuff I don't need to brake. A quick stall on spray will suffice. If I do 8.999999 I'll be the happiest little boy in the whole wiiide wooorld! :o And the consistancy of it all will be beautiful.

Wow TSimage, you got all the pieces to one of the coolest dsm puzzles ever.
You should drive around with the parachute, just because, when you hit the streets.
What is this trailer accident? And were you being serious when you said the the seats were comfortable?

I'll definitely be seen on the streets mobbing around with the chute and Hoosiers on, but I'll also be undercover driving around don the stockies and no chute looking for bikes and z06s to embarrass..

The trailer accident happened with the previous owner in which a wheel carrier on their rig fell on top of the fender and put a nice dent in it and rolled over the pass side too. Its not too too bad, you can barely see it from the pics and really only needs a doner car for the front metal and its 100% again.

And yes, those seats rock my world... After using Brides in my RX8 and Kirkeys in my last DSMs, this is heaven.

Thanks bro, I got a long way to go, just stuck the car in storage today to get some more pieces together and then start digging in. Now the mission is to find time even more so than finding money to work on it.

That setup is a hard one to follow. My S472 ha the shock and awe value due to the enormous size of the turbo and the brilliance of the top mount dual 44mm wastegated manifold/4" DP and exhaust layout.. That GTK1000 was just pure sex. Gorgeous.

I definitely added a lot to my overall power curve however. ;)

A few people PM'd me about the Magnus RACE manifold. Most aren't familiar with it and don't even know it existed lol. I believe I am the only one running it but some unknown might have it as well.

Size wise, its about TWICE the size of the regular Magnus, and just by eyeballing it is also bigger than the AMS, DV/DT, FFTec and JMF Drag... Bellow is a comparison between the Regular Mag and the Race.

he race dwarfs the street version in a way that it almost made me laugh that I ever ran it. I had similar pictures next to my friends JMF and its equally as funny.

^^^ You said it bro lol.

I saw your s/n and didn't pay much attention and thought it was me hahaha...

A little behind on my updates but so far the car has been washed and some parts sent into the machine shop. I still have some loose ends and some last minute parts to buy before I dive in head first....

Hell I still have a bunch of parts that still need to be shipped, so we'll see how thins shape up in the next couple weeks.

With no license plate and thus no tags I didn't want the car chillin' on the street so I called up some friends and we got it put on the trailer:

I look at this thread at least once a day for inspiration, thanks for keeping it updated.
What is the gauge in the engine bay for, the one in the front corner of the passenger side?

Thanks bro, I'll need all the support and encouragement I can get! :o

The unit you are refering to is the temperature gauge for the automatic transmission. There is another one inside I will be adding, but basically it allows you to check your tranny temeratures after every run or while the car is being tuned on the dyno or tampered with in general. Its a great saftey measure that I'm surprised more Auto guys don't use.

This transmission produces even more addictional heat being a built full manual body so its even more important to keep an eye on the temps seeing as they can sky rocket if you beat on the car and hold gears too long. (manually shifted)

Oh and the specs on the cage:

12 pt 1 3/4" TIG'd Chromoly Powdercoated black metalic. (Soon to be Goldmember Gold lulz) Driver side swing out w/ window net as well as over head chute latch and independently mounted/detachable Simpson parachute. Passenger side is form shaped to the door (not a simple straight bar).

Ok, so back to business..

The heart and soul of this build is the motor/transmisson.

Built locally by myself and Rob's machining the motor rocks the following parts:

Ross pistons (machined for race pins)
Alum. Groden Rods
Buschur lightened and knife edge "butterfly" crank
Moroso Race oilpan
Kiggly girdle
O-Ringed

And me being the awesome person I am, I went to the storage and pulled the head off just to get some better pics-

One thing i'd consider, is not just a kiggly girdle, but dowl pins for the caps/block. the girdle would help keep the top part of the caps from moving, but the bottom part of them, where they meet the block, would move a bit. Just a suggestion, if you really wanna rev it out.

What's to miss? The cars being rebuilt from the ground up.. It'll be a whole new car. No one got to see what the s472 could do and I wanna put a big shot of juice through here tOo. The wire tuck thing is fron a couple years ago.. Not months.

I think you would just have more fun building the car yourself. I'm not just talking about the block etc... It's usually a lot of fun to put in your own cage and do everything else required outside of that. Wire tucking (in DSM terms) has been done nearly 8 years ago, so you deff. are not the trend starter. I can point you in the right direction though :).

TSimage
04-28-2009, 05:24 PM
There's nothing to be missed.. The car is in pieces and pretty much being rebuilt from the ground up, motor and all. The car was never ran with either the s400 or the nitrous. All previous runs were done on the old set up 42r and no nitrous. The possibilities of this setup are still 100% unknown. As far as the wire tuck goes, that's from a couple years ago, not a couple months..

I guess I can just put it bluntly and make fun of you for saying you weren't the first to do a "dsm wire tuck" :). Again, that car was pretty nice, hope you can get it to that point again and a fast time. Looks like you have bought a good starting point.

I never said I was the first to do the wire tuck, but I was the first to make post about them and do how-tos and offer assistance in doing them on local cars and others from the board.

The shell and transmission are great points to start from as with any project. But the main thing is how you execute, tune, and deliver. The car was pretty fast before on the 42r and old overall setup and naturally it should be ridiculous on the nitrous, s472 and Sean at FFTec tuning it. Motor is on its way back to the machine shop so that's one avenue finally being taken care of. Pretty much now its a waiting game for parts. Wheel flares and new paint coming late summer hopefully as well.

I too love the shell, I had the white one and figured it'd be pointless for me to buy the materials to finish fabing up the Chromoly shell when Erik's was available. It still has a long way to go so hopefully it can see the track this season at some point. About now its all bout money. Meant to do a little parts update a while back but forgot, but I'll go ahead and post it up. Hopefully later today I'll have some updates on the engine bay wire tuck and try to figure out whether I want to simply relocate the fuse box (most likely) or go through the hassle of cutting it up just to save a few lbs..
Some had questions or wanted to see closer pics of the radiator/IC setup so I russled some pics up.

Alrighty, so the show must go on...

This engine bay just isn't going to work for me. Its bad enough how dirty it is but these wires are every where.. the engine already had a bunch, but now due to gauges and sensors it has even more..

No worries, I'm the man for the job.

The big debate right now is what route to go with the harness... Part of me wants to rip it out and strip it bare (I mean I have plenty of time to do so... But then the other part of me thinks it'd be a waste of time. When I can achieve a wire tuck, without relocating the fuse box to the interior like I did with my Dirty Birdie build..

Years of building these cars have showed me there are more than 1 way to do things, and sometimes previous owner "mods" help. On this car when it was equipped with a 42r, it sat in the corner where the PS reservoir use to be. A large hole was cut to allow the piping to run through that opening. My new setup wont be like this so his hole will be patched and or welded. But it was just big enough to fit the fuse box through.. what this accomplishes is the ability to tuck the harness completely out side of the engine bay, WITHOUT splicing it.

Hmmm, at this point, the only reason to do a complete harness relocation is if I was bored... lol. Here are some pics to illustrate. Don't mind the dirty engine bay, after I figure out what route I am going with the harness I'll be shaving all the holes and once I finish doing that then I'll be cleaning and respraying it black.

Starting point-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0536.jpg

I need more room to work so everything in the way such as the radiator and hood need to GTFO!-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0688.jpg

Me, a pair a scissors, and a 10mm socket/ratchet. DO WORK SON!-

Fenders and lights gotta go too-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0689.jpg

A lot better, still dirty tho-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0693.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0692.jpg

Fuse box pulled back to the drivers side where it comes from-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0694.jpg

Dirty birdie part 2?-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0695.jpg

No more harness in the engine bay FTW-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0696.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0697.jpg

Engine harness dropped under the Brake lines. Lines, valves, screws and all will be painted black, they'll be pretty much invisible once its said and done.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/j1d1h1/DSCF0701.jpg

And that took all of about maybe 30minutes -1hr... I've done these so many times its like second nature by now. This car just adds more complication due to the extra wires and the vacuum lines being stainless and of course the nitrous lines. In the end however it'll look that much more crisp.

I've been dying to use mu ProClassic black braided lines for a while and I've decided to go back and swap out all the SS vac. lines with the black PCs. This should help me re route them in a less visible manner, at the same time where visible they will be clean, go with the flow of the braided lines and of course look uber blingin'.

More to come.

So whats new guys?

Well I should be receiving the last of my parts from Erik and hopefully that will throw some more fire under my @$$ to get the car done faster.

Some major moves were made. Originally the car was in storage so working on it wasn't much of a grand experience and all in all just didn't fit well with me. Fortunately I have a few friends with shows and one in particular moved into a new show with @$$ loads of space. Your lookin' at the new Endless Motoring DSM. :tat:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3306/3558975935_21af9e33b6.jpg?v=0

With my new found space I can actually get in there and do a lot of the things I simply haven't had the space to do. One of those being finishing the wire tuck and shaving the engine bay.

It all starts off with removing a bulk of the seam putty, making sure you leave the putty covering the seam creases but getting enough off so that when you glass or bondo it back you will have a smooth transition giving you the "Brazilian" look.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2454/3558974915_8b105191f7.jpg?v=0

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3561/3558958241_c029bfe921.jpg?v=0

Next up you wanna prep the holes by sanding them and getting into the threads (if they have them) so that the welder can penetrate better.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3626/3558957831_0b71815ae3.jpg?v=0

Next up, pull out the welder and go to work.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2478/3559768666_78834642a0.jpg?v=0

Grind it all smooth.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3658/3559768104_6b61faf365.jpg?v=0

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3645/3559767732_3e4a177cb1.jpg?v=0

And then simply make sure its prepped for the next step. (Going to sand the rest of the engine bay down before I respray it) Its a tedious task (I estimated roughly 60+ holes that I welded closed) but the end result will more than out weigh the hard work.

More to come stay tuned.

Lol I'm a leg man too. Her name is Raeleen she's one of our models, cool chick. but here's some little updates:

As some of you may or may not know rules have been getting a little more strict and even more-so out here in CA and especially Sacramento. The cage inspectors and licensing guys pay a lot more attention to details. The first order of business was refitting my door swingouts. They were too low considering my height so they neded to be modified. They still look great and work beautifully which was a worry I had when I went in there with the cutoff wheel, wire brush, plasma cutter and tig welder.

I definitely enjoy the "capping" deisgn on the door bars:

Also the rest of my 4" cust. 4" exhaust. It starts off as a 4" stainless down pipe and connects via v-band to the SS flex/wideband section and then via V band that connects to the rest of the piping which is aluminum saving about %60 of the weight, again that connects via v-band to the SS muffler.

and out into the muffler.

I don't think people really understand just how huge a 4" exhaust is, imagine the difference that you noticed between your stock exhaust and going 3", its that drastic to a 4" setup, especially a full 4" setup out the back. Wess Hess and the ASAP guys are real deal.

wow I was wondering what you were doing. Very nice work, and 4 inch is a mouth full.

Slowly but surely lol.

Ok so as some of you remember back when I had my 35r/40r setups my goal was going to be to push the envelope a little more and after seeing friends with 14b cars running bottom 11s and other ridiculous feats I made it my mention to learn more about the DS-MAP setups.

Think of it as a supercharged free version of DSMLink with features that that at that time were years ahead of anything V2 and even V3 was going to have.

Well I ran into a snag with the boost control and the issues I'd have running a 5bar map, the solution would have been a 4 bar map on maybe less boost but even that option was out of sight. Well a few weeks ago I got a few Messages from HackCenter, the main programmer for the new Warewolf/Jackal tuning software and he had great news. There is a micro 4bar map available and with the new additions to the software it will be the closest thing any of us can achieve to running a AEM EMS setup.

So now with this build I promised I'd try new stuff and do things that others wouldn't do and try and take a leap of faith in hopefully a new positive direction for our cars even at my egos expense. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see what this DS-MAP technology is capable of. there are plenty of HX35 setups using it and one guy is currently building a 366 setup but nothing in this range.

All I have to do now is convince my tuner that its a good idea. If he gives me the nod then I'm game. It'll save me a boat load of money too, but at this point in the build, worrying about money will only leave me high and dry in the end. If I can get my engine management issues squared away then all that is left is the Turbo/fuel and I am ready to go. Taxes would cover it but my sponsor obligations for the RX8 for next season have me in a bind, not to mention my new toy(s) :p I couldn't resist.

It has been a loooooong time since I posted up, not too much has changed, I rounded up a few more parts but still mainly waiting on my fuel setup pieces. But I haven't figured out who or where I'll be picking them up from but it looks like I'll still be doing a single Aeromotive Eliminator pump.

In the mean time to get the car on the road, and work some bugs out of my drive train setup and this transmission setup, possibly playing with the juice as well I'll be throwing in a spare head/ motor and you'll never guess what turbo setup...

A brand spankin' new 7 blade HX35. A great turbo that we can push on the stock block but don't have to worry about it hurting anything else on the car since everything else is built around a powerplant that puts out twice as much power. I preciously had a bolt on 35r setup:

and vowed that after noticing the difference of the T3 that I'd never limit myself like that again, so because of that I'll be sticking with the stock t3 setup. Considering the turbo belongs to my cousin, it will be up to him whether or not he wants his hotside welded up, but if he wants me to keep the internal gate on there I'll just work with it. Yes, I know its limiting me but its his call.

In the mean time I'll hopefully get to cruise around on the auto and get use to shifting it as well as testing out the nitrous. I don't plan on it breaking nay records but I don't see why I couldn't have this thing easily in the 10s gearing me up for the single digits I've been goin after with this build.

But lets not get ahead of ourselves.. Sure I could have the car up and running by tomorrow if I really wanted to but even so I'll still need to get Dave up here to burn me a chip to handle these 1600s as well as the need for the fuel still. We'll see how practical it is but for the time being I'm just eager to drive this thing. Its far too gorgeous to just let it sit, but its winter time anyways so we'll see..

If I could have this thing ready by the CMI races in January I'd be stoked. Then following that having the entire car upto par for the spring/summer would be bada$$. But then again, I have to finish the RX8 too so we'll see!
