Got an evo valve cover in the shop to powder coat for a local customer and it's so light I'm wondering if it's made from magnisium?

If it is, then I'd be careful how hot you heat that. I don't think 400 will do anything but too hot and you may have a raging ball of white hot fire in your pretty, new, oven.

That's exactly why I'm wondering if it's made from magnisium red, I didn't really want my oven to explode.

It wouldn't explode unless it was under pressure. It would just get extremely hot and produce immense heat, before turning to a pile of MgO, looking like a pile of ash.
I don't know what the activation temperature needed for magnesium is.

After consulting the internet, I have come to find that the activation temperature for magnesium is around 800 degrees Fahrenheit. So you are safe.

"Mg" is cast into the right upper corner.
If there was ANY doubt...

If I had looked at the part, it has "Mg" cast into the top of the valve cover.

Ok, now I have to figure out how to retrofit that to a dsm because that is freakin awesome. Mg valve cover? Holy cow.

So the story goes this kid came in the other day with an evo and wanted some parts done, I didn't look very close at the valve cover because it was on the car.
He brings it back into me today upside down and full of oil. I don't even flip it over I just put it in the stripper.
While I'm washing it off, I pick it up and realize its way lighter than the other 10 aluminum valve covers I've worked on this week.
I did the research, the Magnesium can be powder coated but it does require being extra careful with any shavings or dust you make working on the cover ( just threw away that batch of blast media after I was done with blasting the cover).

An EVO VIII valve cover will sit perfectly on a DSM head, the only difference is the bolt holes in the middle where the spark plug openings go are backwards (like the ones with the bolt in front of the plug hole are behind and vice versa). That and they're taller so it'd probably hit your hood. And you'd have to rig up an EVO upper timing cover to work with it.
