Hey. I am just throwing something out there and really getting frustrated with my car. You would think a ball joint shouldnt be a hard thing to replace or expensive right? LOL. yeah, from Mistubishi at the price of 546.00 a piece. Seems after 50,000 miles, my front lower balljoints are going already. Checked the alignment and that was ok. Tires are fine, I have done no modifications yet to the suspension. I buy two used ones that supposedly have only 24,000 miles on them. Once I get them, both ball joints were bad in them. I ended up returning them, and I am praying the two more I ordered are better, but what the heck. I noticed Whiteline are the only people selling replacement ball joints, but you take a control arm and cut off the end to expose the ball joint, kind of like a disected view, you will see they look like press fit ball joints from the outside, but are clearly cast and cant be pressed. I know this cause I pressed the hell out of one and it wouldnt budge. Thats when I took an extra control arm with a bad ball joint and took a die grinder cutting wheel to it. Mitsubishi says you have to replace the whole control arm and the ball joints cant be removed. So, how is white line selling those front lower aftermaket ball joints, when they supposedly cant be put in? Well anyway, anyone else having ball joint problems?

I've replaced those balljoints twice now. The first time was to install the whiteline front roll center kit, and the second time (yesterday) to replace a failed whiteline balljoint.

You can press out the stock balljoints. You can either take out the whole arm and do it on a press, or even easier, get a ball joint service tool kit (I rented one for $6) and press the old balljoint out and the new one in with the arm still on the car. Simple, and fast.

Silly question, but which way were you trying to press the things out? They need to be pressed out, down from the top through the bottom of the arm. Maybe you thought they looked like a cast piece because of the cast aluminum ring around the bottom of the balljoint? It's not uncommon that little ring breaks or comes off either when pressing out the stock balljoint.

I haven't seen many ball joint problems on any of the newer 99-00 and up cars! I have sold only 4-5 arms in the last couple years on an avo and that is from curb hits ;) hope you get it fixed and it won't happen again since it isn't very common from what I have seen! 94-99 galant and eclipse! well thats a different story (as we all know) I have sold at least 500 lower arms in the last 15 years!
