Im looking at an evo ix and it got into a minor accident. Should I buy or just wait for another. If the frame isn't bent like he said should I be worried about anything else? what do you guys think.

Meh its hard to say just looking at pics. Have you seen it in person? I'd ask if he's had any estimates on how much it would cost to have it fixed, maybe even an itemized list of every thing that was damaged in the wreck besides the stuff you see. Also if its been totaled out by an insurance company and bought back as a salvage title car it might be kind of a pain to insure.

Guess I shoulda gave you more infpo. He fixed the car. He said since in PA if the insurance says its 70% damage its totaled. So the title in a pa rebulid. He said he had the frame looked at and it was fine, idk if i should believe him, heres the car now

For that price I would not buy it. I got mine for much less than that and mine has factory warranty where your would not. I would spend 16K for that car with it's scrap title. Keep looking IMO.

CONDITION: The car is in mint condition, very well maintained. Car runs and drives perfect! I purchased the car back in October with a Pennsylvania Rebuilt Title.

Yeah, he's a lying SOB.

Yeah, he's a lying SOB.

Agreed. And someone with a keen eye will notice that the body lines do not line up on the fenders as shown in this pic. Notice how the reflection of light on the fender does not line up with the reflection on the door? Bingo.

dont do it

thats way too much for an evo...especially a salvage titled one. you can pick up a evo 8 for a little more than that price. lol.

based on the pictures, im guessing he had his crash beam on and since he did, his crash beam mounts got the impact. the frames structural rigidity is compromised, at least a little bit. if he didnt have his front crash beam on...idk why he took it off on a stock looking car. haha.

Look at that fucking ride height on the front. If it weren't for that little detail I would say it was a perfect repair from just pictures.

Hell no though, don't do it.

Well guys I found another one, looks real nice, and i talked to the guy and car is mint He said the lowset he can go is 27k, kbb value is 25.5k and nada is 23.5k. I know it has few mods, but what to you think, overpriced? Whats it worth.

What's wrong with the ride height (here's a pic of mine completely stock)

granted it is on a slight incline

Still under the factory warranty until the dealer sees it's modded then you can kiss that goodbye. Edmunds also puts it just shy of 25K with a nice little chart to show how the price is determined:

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Edition 4dr Sedan AWD
................................................Trade-In Private Party Dealer Retail
National Base Price ........................$20,559 $22,273........... $23,566
Optional Equipment ...............................$0....... .$0 ..................$0
Color Adjustment ................................$72 ......$78 .................$83
Regional Adjustment for Zip Code 08865...$63....... $69................ $73
Mileage Adjustment 8,700 miles......... $1,261 ...$1,261............ $1,261
Condition Adjustment Outstanding .....$1,202.... $1,242 ...........$1,345
Total ..........................................$23,157... $24,923......... $26,328

Mods don't add value if anything you have an argument with him that the dealer may in fact not warranty the car because of the mods and therefore they decline the value (perhaps have zero effect, get the mods but lose the warranty). With that said, it does look quite clean but it is overpriced a bit. The low miles are certainly nice though, but I don't see him getting 27K for that car in this economy.

Don't buy the 2nd one either!! It overpriced and it is an MR so it has the icky 6 speed trans! Don't do it!! Why don't you do some research! He will never sell that car for that price. I looked for 3 months until I found my car. I had to drive 3 hours to get it (one way). Keep looking and you will find the right one.

I paid $23.5 for my 05 RS 2 years ago with $4500 worth of toys already on it. 22k miles. Absolutely garaged / mint / FLAWLESS new condition.

Look around. You keep finding crappy deals.

Why are people asking so much for rebuilt evo's? There was a yellow rebuilt evo here in town that sold for 7500 bucks....I still thought that was a little spendy for a reconstructed car. Shit is expensive where you live man, look at this evo that for sale down the street from me. He's asking 23k, but he will take 21.5k cash. I am tempted to pick it up, it's the cleanest evo I have seen in person.

http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/1254734340.html

And here is a buddy of mine that has a clean built 456whp evo that he has been trying to sell for over a year with receipts for everything and he cant even get rid of it for 23k. He will let it go for 21k now. It's the cleanest '03 I have seen in person, but I don't like the '03s.

http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/1262827470.html

Take your time and look around you will find a deal out there.

STikillinTsi, im assuming you know the difference between the evo trims. the 6 speed transmission is weaker than the 5 speed because they basically made the gears a little smaller to compensate for the extra 6th gear. so, if you plan on racing/tracking/making a high hp car i wold suggest sticking with the 5 speed. but if you're going to do basic bolt-ons and just want a DD, the 6 speed will be more than good enough. also, with the economy, you can get a good clean evo for cheap. yes some people ask for more money if they built it...its only because they want to be compensated for their "extras" while, in reality, parts decrease the value of the car. if you bring a car to a dealer, they'll most likely give you zero extra for aftermarket parts or they will deduct you. i know this because i talked to my friend who is the top evo salesman at south coast mitsubishi. my friend picked up a clean under mileage WW evo VIII MR (evo 8 MRs are rare since they only had a certain number produced, and its WW which is the first color to sell out in all trims i believe) for $21,000. yes it had parts like zeal coilovers, minibattery, mbc, short route i/c piping, dyno tuned, jdm 9 rear bumper, and i forgot what else.

try looking on evolutionm.net for used evos around your area. if you dont have an account there but you find one you like, pm me and i'll pm the guy your info or whatever.

i did research and the 6 speeds are fine, you need to research!

First read rule #7.

Second please post up your "research" where it says that 6 speeds are good...

From the research that I've done said the exact oposite. I own a 5 speed for a reason.

bzerkkiller

the 6 speed transmissions are good..they made it onto the car for a reason. its just that the gears are thinner (i believe mainly 3rd gear) to compensate for the extra 6th gear. with that said, the 6 speeds are more prone to breaking. this makes the 6 speeds undesirable to racers and high hp/tq cars. but it makes the 6 speeds a great dd

but i would like to see where he read that the 6 speeds are "fine"

mitsuclipsegsx
07-17-2009, 12:34 PM
There fine if its a DD and thats what I plan to do. I talked to my buddy that has a 06 mr with TBE, reflash and he has 35k and its fine he said.

Man I went at this the total opposite way...

I bought the RS and figured I would personally ADD back what I wanted to round the car out.

Guess what I added to 'round the car back out' in the 2 years I've owned it... power mods... suspension mods... great brakes... more power mods... clutch... flywheel... aluminum drive shaft... ebay HID's...

Getting the idea? At no point did I go, man O' man... I really wish I had 6 gears... and 2.5qts of fluid shoved into the same 5 speed case... It sure would be nice to run into a huge liability with all the power I added. Boy I really wish I could have a transmission that I could shatter with 500whp instead of a stock 5 speed tranny that will just take it... pull after pull.

The Evo MR is heavy, slow, and comes with a liability for a transmission... with basically NO mods suit yourself. But why put yourself into a $3000 hole the second you change your mind? :dunno:
