Well I decided to cut the floor in the hatch and fab a new floor to put my battery box. It also save weight, remove 18 lbs and my new flor is 2.5 lbs.

So how did you weld the new floor to the back part of the hatch? Did you bend it up and weld or rivet?
It looks cool, I guess but to save 16lbs, meh. Not worth it IMO.

I was gonna do the same to my GVR4, but becuase of the contours on the VR4 trunk, I decided against it.
Looking good.

Ok, so it is in a garage in Canada and you are removing some stuff.
What parts or work is going into the car?
Plans when its done?
Hp Goals?
1/4mile goals?
Where did you get the car and how long have you had it? More info please.

I will use rivets to hold the new floor since it's in aluminium ... Well 16 lbs is not bad at all I think and it also looks awesome with the battery box on it. ;)

The car will have a new exterior and interior paint and some serious body work. I don't really know when I'll be done with this project but it's going on it's way.
The story of my DSM:
I got the car 3 years ago with 90 000 miles on it. The car was bone stock and not really good looking ... Well not good looking at all. :o
Anyway my T25 blew last summer so I put an evo3 with a SSaC fmic but now I'm hitting fuel cut ... Time for DSM-Link. I don't want to list all the new parts I have to install because I can't remember everything I bought ... ;)
Hp Goals? Well I will let the dyno tell me my whp when I'll be done but I want to be in the 400whp for sure.

Need some advice asap ... I just realized that I need a new clutch for my setup. Well I want an ACT but I don't find the difference between 6 or 4 puck. By the way they are on sales at extremepsi.com ...
The car will not really be use in the street and I don't want to buy a new clutch when I will put a GT35R ... Can you guys give me some advice on which clutch I need and why ?

Well the unsprung 6 puck will do fine.
I don't really know if I should get an ACT Xtreme Pressure Plate good for 513 ft/lbs or an ACT Custom Extreme Pressure Plate good for 700 ft/lbs. :dunno:
The ACT Custom Extreme Pressure Plate is only 10$ more ...

What kind of welder did you use to do all that welding? How much of a nighmare was it to grind down the welds to be flush or did you get it rough then bondo over it?

Thanks Gamble. :D I just try to do my best and got some help from my friend ...
All welding have been done with a MIG. Some welds have been sanded flush, some rough.
It was not even close to a nightmare with the right tool ! ;)
I used a dremel with many sandpaper wheel that I took at my shop.

Moar!!!! Work faster!
Just kidding. I'm very impressed with the work you're doing.
Just one quick question. I'm really interested in the process of the body work you've done. That was a lot of rust and a lot of cutting done... What are the steps on fixing all that. I know you weld but how to your mold metal to fit exactly like it's supposed to? And how do you make sure not to compromise the sturdiness of the car?
Thanks.

Just want to say that there is no bondo ! Just a lot of grinding, primer, a lot of quality sanding (everything is in the sanding) than paint and sand with some 2000 grid with water ... Bondo can do the job but will eventually crack !

I was cheking my parts yesterday and I found out that the battery tie down that come with the Moroso box was 1/2" too short to fit on my Optima yellow top ... :(
I decided to cut the battery tie down in the center and weld a piece of flat bar to make the tie down 1/2" longer. It was pretty easy and still fit in the box. After welding I polished it for that bling bling look. ;)

Trunk came out great. How thick is that? Why didn't you weld it in?
Why didn't you rebuild the bottom end of the motor?
Trunk is 1/8" thick and I can't weld aluminium with steel ... I didn't rebuild the bottom of the motor because I didn't have to (it was working great before the build). I didn't have enough money either ... Will keep this for the next time when I'll put piston, crank, cam ...
Hey Gamble do you remember how many wires you need to do the fuse box reloc ... ?

My fuse box had like 38-40 wires. I got 2 full engine harness's from friends. 1 jaguar and 1 kia one. I just layed them out, cut off the connected and stripped the tape until I had bare wire left. Then just started to match up the gauge size 1 by 1. The colors don't match but no big deal as long as the gauge is the same size.

Yesterday I tried to do some brake line and got frustrated since we broke the flaring tool and it fuck up one of my line ... Well I decided to just call some braided stainless steel hose with inverted flare fitting on them to make things easier and for a better look. I order them at http://fluidtransferproducts.com/ and it only cost me 65$ for the 4 hoses I need. Will post some pictures when I receive them ...
Stay tuned ! :)

The aluminum looks nice, but man I would think your going to have a lot more flex in the back of your car by cutting that out. Any plans for upper or lower strut tower braces? Keep us posted when you drive it, I'm curious to see if you are going to find your car cornering the way you really want it to. Otherwise it looks like things are going good for you so far, keep it up.

What was the black you applied to the rear and wheel wells? Undercoating? Rihno liner?

DAMN!!! My 95 TSi AWD has needed a little love for a while, so I was just going to regasket the spare motor and throw it in. Maybe get her a new fender too, for being such a good sport. After reading this thread, I feel guilty about doing that. Thanks:P
Seriously though, this is probably the best DSM resurrection I've ever seen. All that rust, I thought she was a goner for sure. What a transformation!
Fantastic Work!!!
