In a brief statement, Chrysler has announced that the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) is now entirely owned by the U.S. automaker, with both former partners, Mitsubishi and Hyundai, having sold their parts of the company.

This may sound like a dull bit of business news, but it could most certainly have a big impact on some of the coolest engines on the planet. Sure, the engines that originated from GEMA have found there way into less exciting vehicles like the Chrysler Sebring, but the same engines have also been the backbone of cars like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (pictured above) and Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.oT. The high-powered Caliber SRT4 also used a version of a GEMA engine.

Three basic engines have come out of GEMA with displacements of 1.8, 2.0 and 2.4-liters, many of which were fitted with turbochargers and superchargers to make as much as 300hp.

There is no word if the end of the GEMA partnership could affect future Hyundai and Mitsubishi powertrain developments, but you can be sure the decision had a lot to do with Chrysler's new Fiat ownership.

Thank God. Now Mitsubishi isn't associated with the epic shittiness the US automakers are known for right now.

I have a hard time calling the 4b11t insuperior to the 4g63.

Its better in everyway. :dunno: Ask Buschur what he thinks, he has said the same.

Seriously? How are people gonna bash a car with mahle pistons and forged rods from the factory lol?! Sure you will have to sleeve it.........over 500hp. At that point, its not that much more of an expense.

Oh, there's no doubt about the fact that the 4b11 is on par with or even a 'better' motor than the 4g63, but if Chrysler takes that with them, Mitsu is going to need some motor to throw back in the Evo, unless of course they just let it die, which I doubt they would do.

Mitsubishi already manufactures all the 4b11ts for the EVOs and Ralli Arts in Japan anyways so I am sure they will continue to be produced.

Its just kind of a dumb move on Dodge's part to drop their best 4 cylinder.

I don't like change, I don't want to learn a new motor esp when there is almost 20 years of modding that went into the 4g63, its down to a science at this point.

The jump to an evo 8 or nine is going to be big enough when the day comes.

We'll see, but I would love for the 4g63 to make a comeback, lol.

I understand the need for progress, which is why I'm glad the 4b11 is in use. That said, I hope if it turns out to be a POS, that they just revert back to the 4G63.

That is fine with me quote GM "let the best car win" then try not to laugh to hard.
I am not Buying a Chrysler anyway this story only matters to us DSMers that have a clue about the auto industry now that the auto partnerships are crumbling we will see who can really make a better car.
