The Story:

I’ve been toying with the idea of buying another 1g ever since I sold my beloved 05’ Evo back in May of 08’. Recently a friend of mine mentioned that he was thinking about selling his 1g. After some talking a deal was struck that neither of us could refuse and I had the keys to my new daily driver. I’ve known the owner and the car for a few years now and I’ve admired this car for a long time.

The car is a super clean, rust free, 1992 Eagle Talon TSI AWD 6/4 combo. 139k miles on the chassis and 12k miles on the engine and transmission. No sunroof and it’s a panda too, that’s a huge bonus.

It was very well cared for and well maintained. The previous owner blew the composite head gasket at the drag strip, by accidentally loading a race gas tune while running pump gas. He said it spun the tires through first gear and lost the head gasket halfway down the track and coasted to a 13.2 @ 92mph. The car was then parked in the garage and disassembled, new parts were ordered and the engine bay was masked off and re-sprayed. He sold it simply due to a lack of time. I bought the car partially assembled and I finished the build. It took a little over a week to put back together and get back on the road.

Nice save.

How's it running for you? Any issues that you have yet to work out? Goals?

For the most part its been running great. For the first week my left leg was a little sore from the oldschool 2600, I guess the newer ones have less pedal pressure. Last week it decided to dump out all its coolant on the freeway, but what dsm hasn't ever lost all of its coolant? It was a simple fix, just lost the plug on the t-stat housing.

As far as goals, I'm shooting for around 375 awhp on pump gas and hopefully some low 12 second passes maybe even high 11's.

It wasn't cheap, but the price was fair.

I was thinking about picking myself up a 20g before I sold the DSM. There is something cool about using an old school 20g with all of these new Holset's and 50trims running around.

Car was pretty quick. It kept up from a roll with a T3 60-1 car that was running 20 lbs and my 20G was on 22 pounds.
