This one has to do with mounting options and sound quality....
I have a Boston Pro 6.4 component set I want to put in my 90 Laser. They will be ran by an Alpine MRV-1002 (100x2 RMS@12V). I want to know where I will get better imaging, midrange, midbass etc., by installing them where. I could buy Q-Forms and stiffen them up and mount them that way. Or I could mount the 6.5" woofer (spacer already made to clear window) in the door, and the tweeter in the stock 4" dash location (or maybe on the door somewhere).
The system is going to be built soon, so any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike

Well in my car I put a 5.25 component set up front.
I put the 5.25 woofers in the doors and cut holes for the tweeters as high and as far away from me(at the very front) as I could in the doors. After angling the tweeters just right it wasnt too bad. Kick panels lower the soundstage a little much for me.
But they do sound pretty nice.

I would put the 6's in the stock door locaton, and then experiment with the tweeters, maybe the dash, or the a pillar, if there is space. You want to try to get your sound stage up in front of you at hood level, so you want to try to get your speakers as close to hood level as possible. That is both, 6's and tweeters.

The "best" Solution is to mount them both (tweeter and woofer) in the same plane, very close to each other and as far away from the listener as possible. This means using the kick panel. However, I experimented and found that it interfears too much with the foot rest, which I use all the time. You might find it different though. I decided to mount the woofers in the stock location and then put the tweeter high up at the front of the door panel. This gives better sound quality as the sound is not reflected off the windshield but it tends to pull the image to the sides of the car. To compensate I used a center channel below the head unit which runs in mono. I can adjust this speaker with an L-Pad to whatever level I want. Sounds pretty good. Experiment and see what sounds best for you...

I agree with Zeebest. Log onto http://www.crutchfield.com to find out why I said that
Just wondering... If you're 'goin' for broke' then why don't you go with Boston Acquistics's 6.5,3 setup... you have power mirrors right? -Use the door's plastic sail panels to surface/angle mount the tweeters, then use the OEM 4 & 6 1/2" locations for the mid & mid/high speakers, thus keeping the front stage a 3-way setup, rather than a 2-way... I have had both (2 & 3way) in my 94 Talon and my newest setup of a 3-way MB Quartz made a huge difference!! -I had to put the X-overs inboard, as it was way to big for inside the door panels. -Boston's 3-way X-Overs are about the same size, and are just to nice looking to go hidden in any door pannel. -Overall, the only thing that I could complain about is the price difference between 2 or 3-way setup... The 3 ways retail for about a grand, but acquistically, it was worth it!

Ideally, I would have loved to drop the 6.53 Boston system in there. But, as most of my money goes into the engine, the 6.4 system is there to stay. I actually got the Boston Pro 6.4 system brand new over 2 yrs. ago on closeout. Ended up paying only $240 for the system. That's why I want to install them. If I had $1000, it would prolly go towards an LSD for my FWD, since the sounds will most likely be adequate. I just wanted to know the best possible setup for the equipment that I already have.

yeah, best imaging occurs when all the sounds come from the same location - keep the mid/woofer as close to the tweeter as you can.
Tweeter placement is important, they make more difference in hearing where the sound seems to be coming from.
I guess one of the best setups is to put the woofers in the door, and then put the tweeters next to them, or on the kickpanel, and angle them both so they cross about ear level in the middle of the car. This seems to give good imaging.
