Hey all. I'm getting really frustrated. I haven't been able to think up any plans for making my 2 JL 10w1's fit into my 92 TSI hatch area.

I want to build it around the spare tire so I can keep the spare in there, and probably have it back up against the rear seats.

can someone help me out?

Much thanks,

-M

Build a box between, the two strut towers and the seat. Then mount the amp on the front of the box, toward the seat, inset. Then build the enclosure facing backwords, about 2 cubic feet sealed combined, I belive, but you better check the manual. Then make a back peice that fits over the back of the box and looks pretty so it looks pro and the box isn't just a rectangle, it will have a reael custom look this way, of course cut out the wholes in that piece of wood for the subs, duh.

I don't think I'm going to mount my amps to the box. Too much vibration can kill the things, so they're going on the back of the back seat.

What I'm looking for is someone who's built a box, and can post a diagram of how they built it (ie measurements and stuff) so I know how much material to buy and what lengths to make cuts.

thanks for the tips.

I'd definitely be interested in some box specs/dimensions/diagrams as well. That's something I've been meaning to make for quite a while now, but never really got around to it. I'm sure SOMEONE has done it.

I was able to make a box around the AWD hump on the floor board of the trunk, the only downside was that I had to loose the spare tire.... Ahwell, I can still fit a can of fix-o-flat next to it... I would include a pic, but I can't seem to find a way to attach it!! -Just e-mail me 4 more

i built a dual 12 box for the back of a non-turbo. it has a raked face so it isn't just a rectangle. if there's any intereest i could go and try to dig up my specs on the box. it's about 3 cubic feet so a little translation could reduce it to fit some 10's i'm sure.

Does your NT have the hump for the spare tire in the hatch area?

jUST DO WHAT I DID.. REMOVE THE BACK SEATS .. the front of the box is where the amps are mounted.. .. the angle is the same as the seats.. then ther is a 4 inch flat spot ontop and then the rear of the box that is parallel (sp?) with the back window... Im running 2 12's but you could fit in 2 15's if ya wanted.. Only downside is that you lose that small tiny kiddy back seat... or do away with the spare tire..

I love my setup.. dont haveto drive people around.. have lots of trunk space and it pounds real hard because the subs load up off the rear window.. when i get my pics developed ill post some up..

no there's a totally flat surface in the back of mine. haven't spent much time at al in an awd. me and my dad both have fwd's and they're about the same. maybe there's still a way around that hump though.

I'm not sure there's a way around it, other that building the box to fit, which is what I asked in the first place... if anyone happens to have plans for building one that I can go off of.

Make sure you have enough airspace!!!!

I did the same thing in my TSI with 2 12's. Made the biggest box I could to fit in the trunk w/ my spare (and still under the stock rear window shade) Sounded like crap = not enough airspace.

So I disconnected 1 12, and sounds pritty awesome now!

As for mounting amps on the seat, thats gonna help them heat up fast. Heat rises, so if you have the amps sideways the heat will not goto the heatsinks, but the side of the amp.

I mounted my amps under the box, on each side of the spare tire. This way: They are hidden and there is heat clearance due to the height of the spare tire.

Oh yeah:
Sealed boxes are the smallest (what you need)
Ported boxes take more space
Bandpass boxes take the most space

Check on the internet, the company who makes your speakers. Most likely they will have min air space requirements for the speakers they sell.
