I got a 1990 talon NT, manual tranny.
my exhaust has always been loud, the flex section is eaten away, there is also a crack in the exhaust manifold as well. Yesterday the car decided to sound like a v8 with super high lift cams... it is LOUDER than a civic with a 10" tip! I can hear the exhaust "gurgle" when i step on it so I'm thinking it's just the exhaust problem getting worse. BUT i'm wondering if maybe i'm only running on 3 cyl's (probably not) or just that because of this problem i'm running rich as hell because the o2 sensor is scrwey because of the holes in the manifold and such. If anyone has any thoughts help me out here :)
If it is the exhaust, then all i'll need to get is a NON TURBO downpipe, cuz i already have a new manifold... anyone know how much they cost???? or would i just be better getting a full pacesetter and have it installed and be done with it?

I would say it's just your exhaust, the O2 needs to see a certian temp to come up with the right A/F mix. With all the holes in your piping it can't so it's adding more fuel ect.. I'd just go with the Pacesetter piping and be done with it.

alright man, here's the deal. if you do plan on getting the pacesetter header....expect to get what you pay for...they're only like....140 bucks, so be ready for some pain and aggravation if you try to install it yourself..They are very hard to get to bolt up...I just got done spending about 4 hours porting mine. I had to take it off and take it back to the speed shop because *WHOOPS!* there's a hole down on the lower part of the header before it bolts to the downpipe! It developed this after like....3 weeks. After taking the header off, I noticed how much restriction the exhaust had because I hadn't ported the header before...Now it's perfect, but I found that the welds were sloppy as hell. AGAIN. a case of getting what you pay for hehehe. Overall though, I am happy with mine. You said you would probably get yours installed by somebody else, so if you're going that route, you may be ok if you can spend some extra cash. make sure you get them to port it to the size of the pacesetter gasket....(however, as a note, I've been informed that many people dislike the pacesetter gasket, they say it burns up too fast and that the factory one is better...who knows) Make sure to re-torque the nuts on the header too, I checked mine after running a while and they had loosened considerably. Just something to keep an eye on. alright. if you've got any questions, just yell

thanks! i decided since it's just my daily driver i'm going to use my old exhaust manifold from the project car and get a good used nt downpipe that someone nicely said they could get for me (BILL ;) ) so i'll just pay a shop to put it on and be done with it... anyone know how much that might cost me? if i walk into the shop with a exh mani, downpipe and the gaskets for it?

no problem. I'm guessing 100 bucks. Lots of places like to jack the price on you because they run into "problems"....."whoops, "I" didn't break the stud off in the head, IT broke because it was faulty!, so now you have to pay for me to drill it out, rethread the head, and pay for blah blah blah.." hahahaha OH YEAH, it took me 3 extra hours, so your bill is XXX.XX! seriously though, I understand that some people live in apartments etc. where they can't work on their own vehicles, but if you have a jack and a socket set hehehehe you could probably get it all done yourself really quick. just note this, i had to take off my power steering pump (not off, just move it out of the way) so i could get to that last manifold stud. Again, not too hard, but time consuming. (time that mechanics would LOVE to charge you for hehehe)
alright, done ramblin', see ya'll

well the thing is, i cna't get the bolts off the cat and i have no access to power air tools. Plus I need to get it done ASAP, because i CANNOT drive like this in residential areas.. trust me! :D oh, i also cannot weld things either if it needed to be done

oh, i understand, I sometimes assume too much...(like people have a garage full of tools hehehe air tools are the stuff) if you're in a pinch, i say just go ahead and let the shop do it then. I wouldn't try it unless I had all the necessary parts.... (i had to use a high speed cut off tool (again, air tools rock) to cut off one of the catalytic converter nuts to get my header on.... It would've sucked to had to use a hacksaw to cut through that crap hehehe. so yeah. just take it to the shop and hope they aren't bad people hehe. see ya
