Over the 1g glovebox we have a huge waste of space, it looks like a wall. I am planning on putting the widescreen in there flush mounted, The wide screen is about 7" long and about 4" high. it sgould fit fairly easy with little or no problems. As for the 2 4" other monitors, they are going in my visors.

What model where the Quarts BMP? I would go to a Focal 3 way compnent set, I love mine. It sounds great. Handles 210 RMS(a side of course). Clear sound, full range coverage, not lacking at all and not too bad of a price, depending on where you buy them though. I've seen thm for up to 750 bucks I got mine for 300, but I have conections and got them at cost.

Car Alarm :
Prestige - AudioVox Alarm with shock sensor and remote start. In addition to that I have a dual stage proximity sensor which alerts someone if they are too close to my car. This alarm will also keep the car running just like a turbo timer! This is very helpful and saves me some money!
Head Unit :
Clarion DRX9175 passive CD deck
Digital Sound Processor (DSP) - Clarion DPH7300 external DSP
Speakers :
Fujitsu Eclipse - 8052 5" Driver with 3/4" silk dome tweeter and crossover in the rear. I replaced the factory tweeters in the front with the 1" Eclipse tweeters in place of their 3/4". (4 drivers and 4 tweeters total)
JL Audio - 12w6 12" subwoofers (2 subs total) in a custom enclosure, which is removable. This helps out greatly when racing!
Amps :
Soundstream - Reference 1000 : 1000 watt amplifier x2 (for subs)
Soundstream - Rubicon 604 : 600 watt x 4 (for mids and highs)
Amp Rack - Custom created by myself and the help of my friends at Sound Design! Shop, tools, brains, etc. Rack was created to center some of the weight the amps have and to match the interior. All equipment was installed with 4 gauge power, 12 gauge speaker wire, custom length directional RCA cables from the DSP located in the factory amp location just under the passenger seat.
Farad Capacitor :
Lightning Pro Audio 1 Farad capacitor. This keeps the lights from dimming while the music is turned up loud. Also puts less load on the battery.

i'm getting a 4 channel soon, but it's not that annoying, i can still hear pretty good out of the fosgates and eclipse...and dont forget , the 7969 is 60wx4 rMS, not top end... it's hardwired to the battery, so it's almost a built in amplifier, but i'm getting a 4 channel soon, because the head unit gets too hot when it's hardwired. oh well :)

Nellystyle, I think you have your number's confused. the 79 series of Alpine pieces are pre-amp only, meaning they have no internal power. The 78 series are the powered decks. You would either have to have an amplifier or a powered EQ to get sound from that deck. Just my O2. I do applaude the use of Alpine however!!:)

Yes, Alpine is good. As you may have noticed, I'm a big fan of theirs as well.

Hey, have any of you actually experimented with subwoofer firing direction? I know there are a lot of theories...facing up seemed to work well for my friends and me, but I was thinking about downfiring next time. Any opinions?
Tractionless in PA
03-30-2001, 11:04 AM
yes, firing down work's good also. Although 99% of the time, firing the speaker's towards the rear in a hatchback situation yields higher output due to the fact that it cancell's out the dead standing waves in the vehicle. It does this because the hatchback design acts as an extension of the speaker. IE more output. generally, if the subs are firing forward, they need to be sealed off from the back half of the vehicle or you get the exact opposite effect of the above stated effect. they tend to cancell themselves out. In trucks, particularly ext. cabs, firing down seems to be far and away the best method, due to the smaller size of the cab, because there is a smaller volume of air that needs to be compressed.

I have something simple but it gets the job done, sounds damn decent, and doesn't add excessive weight to my car. I'm more into being fast than being loud.
Pioneer DEH-P6000
Pioneer 6x9's (3-way)
and stock front speakers.
I have it faded more to the rear so I don't blow out my stockers.

Kenwood KDC-MP8017 CD/MP3 player
Alpine MRV-357 5-channel amp
MB Quart PSC 316 component set includes:
- 1" titanium tweeters
- 4" midranges
- 6" mid-woofers
- MUSiCOMP MCX-328 dual-power crossovers
JL12w3 in custom box
This is all new, except the Quart crossovers, tweets, and mids. The prior headunit and amp were stolen (Fosgate RFX-8220 and Fosgate 600a5, respectively), and the sub and box are new, all thanks to my illustrious car insurance. All is installed and functions GRRRR-eat except the Quart 6" mid-woofers. BrandsMart was having trouble getting them, so I get to go back sometime next week and have them installed.
The Quart components are in the dash for now in stock location with the 6"s in the rear deck. As soon as I get my fiberglass pods finished, all six component speakers will be aimed and focused in the kickpanels. I'd also like to make a 'glass box for my sub in the spare tire well to keep the trunk itself usable.
It sounds pretty damn good, but I haven't tuned it for the car at ALL yet, so I'm sure it can sound lots better once I get the gains an levels and crossovers and shit set right. I'd like to have it tested out to see how many dB i'm gettin. Gotsa have smooth tunes for cruisin. ;)

Come on everyone, keep this one going forever! I'm changing my equipment as we speak.
Selling my modified CFA 1000d's to go lesser power (but better looks), to a Orion 2100 HCCA or 2250 XTR, I used to own both and loved how they looked.
Sold the Pioneer Premier CD and am moving on to the Clarion 310c, aka the Auto-PC.
Selling the subs to move down to 2 12" Eclipse 88's or Audiomobile Mass 12's.
I'm going to less SPL and more looks and SQ.
I'll have pics soon of the install when I get everything :)

Head-
Kenwood KDC 715S
Front Speakers-
(2) 2" Clarion tweeters sunk into the factory spots in the dash
(2) 5 1/2" Clarion subs in the doors
Middle Speakers-
(2) 3-way 6"x9" Infinity pro comps
Boom-Boom Speakers-
(4) 12" Chrome American Pro's w/1 600w American Pro amp
lil' bout my install-
head unit is in the normal place, nothing spectacular bout it. the tweeters were sunk into the original circular inserts that come with the rs (that dosen't come with actual tweeters) and look like they came that way from the factory. the 6x9's in the back seat were tricky - i had to yank out the factory mounting hardware and instead of trying to use it, just bolted the speakers directly to the plastic molding that goes over then (its plenty sturdy since i re-inforced the rear, that sits right on the metal, with foam and padding) and also covered them with the original grill but with black fabric sewen in-between to look a little more professional. the trunk was totally fun to do. the only thing i didn't do myself was make the fiber-glass box (found someone selling one already done - why bother when his was perfect for what i wanted to do?). had to remove that silly metal stand that you are supposed to use for your spare tire (that took a whole weekend - murder on my back!). then i had to find a sturdy enough rubber substance to pad the speaker-box (those big orange things you find laying around construction sites work GREAT - but you didn't hear that from me). once that was done, i decided to bolt the whole thing in nice and snug using the drain holes already made by the factory and some heavy duty bolts/washers/rubber washers (this actually gained me a lot of better sounding bass - makes sense - vibrating with the car instead of against it). believe it or not, the 600w amp powers my 12's VERY NICELY - not many people let me turn it all the way up - even the one's that are excited to hear it. oh yea - there is a kill switch in my cup holder (very slim, still can put my drinks there) to turn the bass off.
as far as insulation, i've taken my entire car apart (including the airconditioning and sunroof) and stuffed it full of probably 100lbs of foam, rubber padding, silicon glue, caulking, and probably a few other things i forgot to make it sound 99.9% perfect and not rattle sounding like CRAP (it never ceases to amaze me people that think their car sounds great when all you hear is rattle...). its like nothing i've ever heard, and i've been into car audio with many many of my s. florida friends for YEARS.
unfortunately, people that have heard of american pro stuff think its crap - thats ok - i kno better.
e-mail me if u would like pix - its a rather professional install if i do say so myself - ;-)

The front speakers are size 4T's, hope that helps.

yea - they are 4" - when you don't get the actual speakers though, you get a little 4" insert - which is perfect for drilling out for 2" tweeters. is that what you were getting at?

I've got:
Pioneer DEH-P8000R (oragnic deck)
Pioneer DEQ-7600 (EQ)
Pioneer CDX-1500 (12 Disc Changer)
2x10" Pioneer Premier Nickels
and MB Quart in place off all factory speakers.
I will be re-doing this system shortly in order to compete in sound offs. Also I will be racing my car.. So I've got lot's of weight issues to figure out.
Does anyone have a custom sub box in the back of their 2G?
I've got a 98GSX and I need to build a custom box but I want to see some ideas before I start cutting. heheh
Thanks

My list:
Alpine IVA-C800 (video head unit – replaced CVA-1000)
Alpine ERA-G320 (eq)
Alpine SEA-8080 (radar sensor alarm - PITA to wire)
(2) Alpine Amps
(2) Pioneer Premier 12” Subs

The only other things I’d like to do are replace the stock Infinities and get a better amp for the subs. But for now the system sounds good and my focus is on go fast parts.
