I don't mean this as a personal attack at all, but ... Do we REALLY have moderators that don't know basic info like this? I figure'd that the moderators - *especially* for the Tech Section - should at least know some basic DSM info.

BTW, Thanks to ALL the moderators for keeping this forums going, this site is awesome!

Just my 0.0002,

The basic role of the moderators in these forums are for the most parts to keep peace in thr forums and see to it that the conversations stay somewhat on track. While it often helps to have basic knowledge, which the moderator in question has demonstrated in the past that he does, one of the main things a moderator should be, is level headed.

When a question is posted, it is being posted to the general DSM community, not neccessarily to the moderator. Often, you see many moderators posting their own questions in Help Tech or General Tech. Nobody knows everything.

In my opinion, the moderators here have been doing a great job to keep this a professional, informational, clean site to go for information on all things DSM. We appreciate everyone who posts here, and hope that the site will continue to grow, and to be the best.

I realize you do not mean that as a personal attack. As a matter of fact, I am glad you posted. :)

A "moderator" is someone that presides over a conversation when need be.

Our moderators range from newbie to experienced DSM'r. One's expertise can definately add to the roll, but no matter how much of an expert in DSMology someone is, they are not going to be a moderator if they demonstrate anything less than professional behavior.

BTW, when you say "*especially* for the Tech Section"... please note that Todd (91TalonAWD) is assigned to the audio and electronics tech forum because of the particular interest he has in audio. Surely that doesn't mean he has to keep his mouth shut when out of his assigned forum eh? :)

Our moderators are obviously doing a GREAT job, regardless of the DSM expertise each moderator has (and some have very impressive expertise!!!). We have created an environment where new users can feel comfortable posting newbie questions right next to hardcore technical posts, users can post political beliefs in the lounge without being railed, and are not prodded by the moderator when their grammer or spelling isn't to someones liking ;). Through their contributions the moderators try to make this a friendly, helpful, and valuable DSM resource, and IMHO, they are totally succeeding. http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

You guys are right, the moderators are doing an awesome job on here. Like I said, I love this place!

BTW, when you say "*especially* for the Tech Section"... please note that Todd (91TalonAWD) is assigned to the audio and electronics tech forum because of the particular interest he has in audio. Surely that doesn't mean he has to keep his mouth shut when out of his assigned forum eh?

WhoaTed, of course he shouldn't be afraid to post questions and stuff anywhere on here, I apologize if that's how my question came across. I love the atmosphere of this site - like you said, it's great for newbie's AND gearheads alike. :) I just assumed that he was the moderator of the Tech section, without even looking to make sure. (Insert foot into mouth)

Also, good explanation about the moderators responsibility :) , I agree being level-headed is more crucial than knowing everything about DSM's. I was in no way criticizing 91TalonAWD simply for asking his question. Hell, everyone has been there before. Sorry, 91TalonAWD, if I offended you.

Anyway, thanks for the responses guys!
