My friend just got a 96 Mustang GT 5 spd the other day. Last night we decided to line them up on the interstate for some fun. We did a 65 kick twice...1st time I got the jump and held it up to about 100 and hit the brakes. Then we went at it again from 65 to 130 with him getting the jump and me not being able to gain on him and him not being able to gain on me. DEAD EVEN. I was expecting him to walk me on the interstate since I'm AWD. He just better watch out when I pull up next to him at a red light. :p

I have to admit that Mustang GT's and Cobras are very nice cars; I had only been around lame V6's until now and there's a huge difference there.

Hmm I was playing around last night and realized that shifting at 6000 rpm helps a bit since my turbo falls on its face after that. Maybe I could have gained on him if I had shifted then instead of closer to 7000. I'll try to get up another race with him and see what happens.

To my understanding, the 96 GT's are dogs and are only 215hp. I whooped one in my completely stock 2G GS-T + K&N + free mods + dying T-25 awhile back. I posted the kill here if you want to take a look at it.
I actually thought he let up.

The 94-98 GTs are heavy, and thus slower than the older GTs and the 99+ cars.

But given equal drivers a 5 speed 94-98 GT would still beat a stock GS-T. They'll hit 14.7s with a good driver. But if you're racing against an auto or a bad driver, a GS-T could win easily.

The 94-95 GT with the 5.0 has 215 hp and 3.08 gears, the 96-98 GT with the 4.6 has 225 hp and 3.27 gears.
