O.K. Here goes, I hear Turbonetics make some pretty damn decent turbo's and I am not going to dispute that fact. Recently I bought a Turbonetics Manual Boost Controller, I figured good turbo's equal well made quality boost controllers. The Turbonetics Boost Controller in basically the run of the mill bleeder type in a fancy package. It looks awesome i can't deny that, but that is not where my problem lies with it...... My problem with the unit lies with the "Boost Control" in the word "MBC". It is rather non-existant. Yes, it does work to a certain extent but I wouldn't call it accurate or even close to safe. On My 95 Tsi I was seeing anywhere from 11psi to 18+. Not safe considering my stock hardwired FP setup. Now I know what some of you are thinking; he installed it wrong, backwards or doesn't know how to tune a boost controller. Wrong, this is my third style MBC in my 3rd turbo car. I have never had problems like this before. I tried contacting Turbonetics but was only told I must have installed it incorectly. For fear of my engine self destructing the unit has been removed. I tried taking it back to the original place of purchase and was denied (After only 3 weeks). I didn't want to rule out the possibility that for some reason I recieved a defective unit..... Untill the other night. I was talking to my mechanic who at the time was in his garage pulling out a engine in a turbo'd Honda. I asked him why he was pulling it out, His response was "It was a overboost thing." I checked under the hood and sure enough there was a Turbonetics boost controller mounted next to the turbo...... coincidence ? You decide. If any DSM'r has had any experiance with these MBC please let me know. Again I don't want to bash a product as the possibility of recieving a defective unit still exists... Let me know.
