does anyone know of a detailed write-up on how to re-wire the AC fan to come on automatically to run with the main fan when it comes on? seems like it could be a fun cheap mod that may or may not be worthwhile.

www.vfaq.com and go to the electrical section. I did it on my 2g.

How do you do that free mod and what purpose does it serve.

Once again www.vfaq.com will answer that. Basically it will allow you to cool the engine down by flicking a switch whenever you want such as after running hard etc.

yea but don't the fans keep going after the car is turned off. ARen't bot the fans then hooked up to the switch. If you have a turbo timer it would kinda defeat the purpose of it becasue then you gotta sit in it to turn off the fans.

Well, before you shut the car down, shut the switch off. If the car is still hot from runnig hard the fans will stay on from the TT anyway ;) If you were worried about forgetting to shut the switch off you could put a relay on it to shut the circuit down when you turned the key off. Simple :D

oh so the one fan will turn on w/o the switch and w/ the switch on both run. Im also feeling the relay thing i might look into that.

I hooked up my a/c fans like that, its kinda hard to leave em on, they are loud enough.
I like it tho, was easy and i pop em on a few blocks from my house then sit in my car for a min, or I pop em on for stop and go driving :)

When I removed my A/C, I left the compressor on(a pain to remove, didn't have the time that day), and I left the connector hooked up to it. I removed all the lines and the condenser, and cut the belt. Now when I hit my A/C switch, all it does is turn on the A/C fan. Simple, especially if you don't use your A/C(mine never worked, had a leak so I figured I'd take the minor power gain over having it repaired).

dsmlink,

joke, but it does work.

-You can simply remove the compressor-clutch's fuse, both fans will run without the power drain from the compressor.

yeah, i have seen those VFAQ pages that involve a separate switch and whatnot. What i was more interested in doing was finding a way to get the AC fan to come on automatically with the main fan with out any direct intervention from me. (ie a dash switch or whatever). In other words, trick the ECU into running both when it senses the coolant getting too hot, instead of just the one main.

They had a thread on www.vfaq.com but for the 1gen's I tried the link and it was down. Will the same diagram for the 2gens work for a 1gen?

And it has been down for a long time. I want to do this mod to my 1G as well.

Is there another page with the diagram?

just test the 4 wires going into the AC fan to find the power and ground wires. ground the ground and splice the AC fan power into the radiator fans power wire. forget about the other two wires.

Doesn't the fan have 2 speeds?

same basic idea, but I just unplug the compressor clutch, turn on the fan like the AC.

does anyone have a copy of that write-up for the 2g? I went to VFAQ, looks like the 2g one is gone now, too.
