Hey all,

I've met a few of you on this board from the NW....just curious how many more of us are from this area. I'm about to do a rebuild and swap a 6 bolt into my engine...i could use a little wisdom and some help. Will pay with beer:P Anyways maybe we can all get together sometime.

Hey, I'm out here in Scappoose and I drive a 97 Spyder GS-T as well. Sorry, I wouldn't be much help engine wise though. I try to stick to bolt-ons, I haven't gone any deeper than a valve cover swap. Interested in getting together sometime though.

There are a lot of NW people here, most of them aren't too active on this site, but are down for a meet. I'm from Yakima, there are about 5-10 active members here. If you were here, or close, I would come and help you with the rebuild, it's so fun, or at least I think it is.

Yakima is in the middle of no where! :) It's about a hour north west of the Tri Cities. We're on the east side of the mountains. I haven't done the swap, but I have looked into it, it appears that you just need to modify the mounts to get it in, and of course swap on the needed 2g parts mentioned by Magnus Motorsports. And rig up the CAS to work right, it shouldn't be too hard as long as you have researched it, it should actually be fun ;)

HEy redsand...since you think it'd be fun;) , you should come down from washington for a week and crash in my garage with me and swap out my 6 bolt from my 1g into my 2g. I'll pay for beer and pizza:P How does that sound?

As for the swap...i was readig on RREs site taht you need to drill and tap holes and all this otehr crap....is that only for the 1g block mating with the 2g head though??? Thanks

The tapping is if you use a 2g oil pump. But Magnus Suggests to use a 1g Oil pump. I personnaly would go about it the Magnus way, I'm sure you've seen it, but if not, http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/1g2g.htm there is the link. I'm sure either way will work very well, but I think the Magnus way is a little less complitcated. BTW, it will take a lot more then that to make me your bitch for a week :D

I hate to interrupt when you're sooo close to getting a killer deal on a 6 bolt install. In fact maybe we could get him to do a couple of swaps while he's hear, make mine an all wheel drive swap as well. My Spyder doesn't launch/handle nearly as well as my AWD did. As to your question, I get most of my parts online: DSMTrader, thepartstrader, etc. -Brian

Actually converting a FWD to AWD doesn't seem taht hard...or too complex to get the idea of how to do it. All you need is to get AWD tranny, and the drive train and hook it up. But i guess you're gonna have to cut out some stuff from under the body to make room for the drivetrain as well as customize the exhaust. SO can't you just rip these parts out of a GSX at the junkyard and do this for fairly cheap? Am i on the right track or am i just alking out of my ass:P

Oh, I almost forgot, you asked where Scappoose is located, it's about 20 miles towards Astoria from Portland if you take Hwy 30 instead of 26. Anyway about the AWD coversion, it has been done and it isn't too difficult. Much of the undecarriage is exactly the same. I don't think I'd want a car that heavy though and I'm not trying to race my convertible anyway, it does give food for thought though.

WHy not:D You'll be hauling ass in style:cool: Hehe...well after this swap with this 6 bolt i thought i might as well just convert it into a racing motor because it'll pretty much cost the same +or- a few hundred. But yeah with new forged internals and a BIG turbo...i'm hoping to put between 500-600 to the wheels.

Do you guys know alot about forged internals...I've heard that the forged pistons go to shit real quick like in 15-20,000 miles???:confused: Is this true...i don't want to pay $3000 for a rebuild and have to rebuild it again in 2-3 years. THanks

I don't know if a AWD swap is something that I could, or would want to do. Or at least with any strings attached. I'm not great technician guy, I am a ASE student. I am probaby going to take my Engine Performance, Steering and suspension, Electrical, and braking, tests here in the next couple months, I still have another year of school before I get to the level that I want in mechanics then it's off to body work. Plus I am young, pretty young actually only 17, but I have been around these cars for a while, and around cars in genral most of my life, plus it's something I love, hence I'm going to school for it. I plan on opening a shop somewhere here in the NW in a few years, once I get some body work under my belt or a good partner that does good body work. Plus I am working, making 12 bucks a hour, and I don't drink, so it will take more then you offered to get me down there ;)

I've never heard any problems like that with forged pistons. But with any piston, if it's beat on it won't last. Probably someone that doesn't know how to tune told you this ;) BTW, maybe we should get this post a little more on topic so it doesn't get locked

I know where you are talking about, it's the 40th exit, sad thing is, that's the nicest area in town. The hill up above there is where the "rich" (or they want to act rich) people live. Nob hill, is were most of the stuff in yakima happens, you know the rednecks with there big trucks with 38's and 44's, but they won't off road them because they "don't wanna mess her up" Then the ricers with there 15 year old cars with 2000 dollar wheels, and 50 dollar exhaust tips on there straight pipes. Of course we do have the 25+ year old guy's who think cruising is a family event, taking there kids and wives with them in there car's that are "show only". :rolleyes: Yep, Yakima is full of a rare breed of people. I'm pretty sick of this place, I can't get a decent job, I can't find a decent car, I can't find a decent place to shop, hell, you can't hardly find a decent place to eat. This place sucks, they need to do something about it, I think this is one of the saddest cities in Washington. Something needs to come in at turn the economy around, or else there probably won't be a Yakima in 10 years.

:scholar: Redsand, I like Yakima. Maybe because I'm like eight years older than you. The night life sucks, but the location is great. The weather is almost always sunny and you are within fairly close distance of three major cities. (Seatown, Spokane, and Portland) I can drive 55 miles to go skiing in the winter. Or a little farther to like ten other ski areas. There's also nice rivers and lakes super close for summer fun. You won't make as much money in Yaktown, but you also won't pay outrageous rent. I could transfer to the Seattle office of the company I work for and get an instant $7hr raise, but won't because I can't deal with Seattle's shit ass traffic and MAYBE that raise will offset the cost of living. Maybe I'm just getting old. I don't ever go out anymore anyway. I usually just work on my car on the weekends. And race. I was like you though at your age. But now I've come to realize that I actually like it here.

I agree with what you are saying, but Yakima it's self doesn't have really any opportunity for anyone younger (18-21+) that doesn't want to do crap work. That is why almost everyone one of my older friends, and my brother and sister left as soon as they finished school. If Yakima's economy would turn around, I agree, this would be a perfect place to live. But unfortunately the economy sucks right now, it has for the past 5 years or so, and it doesn't look like it will be getting better. The city officials are too worried about how their businesses will do if they allow things thing's too happen that will help, they are not only fighting big businesses, but young ones too. Just remember, Yakima wasn't the greatest when you where my age, and it hasn't got any better. ;) Really, I don't like how Yakima is, but I know I couldn't stand living in a place like Seattle because of the same reasons as you. The more populated places that I could stand living are totally expensive to find a house like I'm used too. :eek:

i just bought 6 mos ago a 91 talon that was wrecked and needed a rebuild. ITS DONE well almost still needs paint and a new fuel pump, and alot more supporting mods wich is why it was blown up when i bought it, well i traded a 90 escort for it, anyway

i like woodburn not to crouded you get alot of runs in, but if everones gonna meet up let me know lets do it soon before it gets to hot

I'm considering going to Pat's Acres ( http://www.patsacres.com/ - a little south of Portland) earlier in the day on the 10th for some track racing in 70mph Rotax go karts :D

It's $35 for one 12 minute rental session, and it looks like they have some group rate packages. Anyone else interested in going as a group? These cars pull 2.5Gs on the skid pad, and should be a lot of fun :)

i can't come now cause i spent all my money on my exhaust, (2)me and my friends are installing it on saturday and (3) I have not told my parents i was gonna drive 350 miles to some guys house in Portland to shoot the shit about cars, and frankly i wouldn't want to tell them. The good thing is, however, I pick up my new exhaust on friday, so i am stoked. It's a thermal 3" cat-back, and i have heard good things about this exhaust.

dude, where were you at? :confused: lol. I got there shortly before 3p.m. The only people that showed up was Tony, the guy with the red gs-t. We hung out for a while right in front of the Acura dealership, big parking lot near the mall, and waited for others to come, but nobody else showed up :(

Yeah I do agree to plan it out better, I'm pretty sure this Saturday there are import races at PR :D, hopefully we can find more dsmers, then meet at the same place again and then go to PR. But this time we'll be clear about exact meet location :P

There are a lot of casual PNW DSMers on DSMTuners (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=52), and they've had five or six meets this summer. For more serious gearheads, there's NWDSM (www.nwdsm.com) and their mailing lists.

Maybe putang wants to host again.
I would offer but I am moving up to Portland at the end of this month, and I don't know if 20 hot loud cars is the first impression I want to make on our new neighbors. I also plan on starting a little shop up there. I will be doing custom fab work, composites fabrication, and soon be making aftermarket parts. I also want to find some people who want polished intake man, head, valve cover, and anything else for that matter to add a little bling to their engine bay. I also need tools.
Maybe we should all mob an auto cross or rally cross one day. That would be fun.

Hey all, another NW DSMer here, from in and around the Seattle area...

I'd be up for a get together at an autocross, there's an event going on aug 15 in bremerton, I know that's kinda far for the guys down south and out east, but it's an idea. I was planning on being there, would be cool to see others there.

Wow this is an old thread, any one around olympia/ s.tacoma with an extra turn signal switch? (if you see a royal purple 95 tsi talon turn infront of you with out signals thats me :D )

Okay I live in everett and i got a serious question. I am about to buy a 98 Eclipse GS (auto) its stock, and has NO PROBLEMS, been very well maintained (driven by an older individual lol) 1 owner... for 2 grand...deals as far as i can see :) but I hate automatics with a passion and cant stand to drive them. I was wondering if anyone knows the price it would cost to perform a A/T-M/T swap or if anyone would be willing to help me with the swap...i can do it myself but would really need a price range and parts list needed. Thanks
