Hello all, I have a 1g TSi AWD and i recently installed the extreme motorsports 3" SS cat back system on my car. In my personal opinion, i believe that it is the best sounding exhaust i've ever heard (sounds excellent on a 2g as well, friends have it) its 3" mandrel bent SS into a straight through muffler and 4" angled tip. its very very quite at idle, loud but not obnoxious at all at cruising, and has a "get out of my way" sound at WOT. I would recommend this exhaust to anyone interested in buying one. turbo spool is much faster, and power is no doubt increased. it can be bought at http://www.extrememotorsports.com

if you want some pictures, email me at formztsi@home.com and i'll send some over for ya.

Formz Tsi,
Maybe you could add a few things for us...:)
Price, how'd the install go, how'd it fit, did it utilize all the factory hangers, how did it look, is the perceived build quality good in your opinion, how was service at extreme? Just a few things.:)
Thanks.

sure sure :)

the price was $500, although expensive, its cheaper then the HK$ (which isnt fully SS) and the same price as Greddy I believe. Install i had done by a friend who owned a muffler shop, he did it in 30 minutes, it uses all the factory hangers (Stainless steel hangers as well) it fit perfectly with no problems, it comes with a step down to adapt to the stock or high flow cat. Looks are awesome, and the service at extreme was "extremely" friendly. Its gonna last longer then my car hehe

I assume you did not get the resonator? I did on mine and it smacks against the drive shaft at the differential...

I am unsure of how much of a difference sound it makes, and I also don't know (AND HOPE THAT THERE ISN'T) a difference in the performance...

Before installing it, we had to bang away on the resonator to knock it down a bit... I'm thinking of seeing if I can make some new hangers so I can move the exhaust around a bit... *sigh*

I bought the Extreme 3" Cat-Back for my '99 GSX last August. I was fortunate enough to be doing business in DC, so I drove up and bought it personally from the shop (I'm from Florida). Service was more than excellent and my sales person has very knowledgeable. I was going to go with the 2 1/2" unit, but he talked me into the 3" system.

Got home a week later (luckily, it fit in my '99 Grand Prix!) and proceeded to install it. Old system came off easily, but the new system went on a little tougher. Two things were wrong right off the bat. One of the hanger brackets was a couple mm away from the drive shaft. A little shaking of the system would have definitely hit the shaft. I was able to bend the bracket a couple inches; problem solved. The other problem is that I used their adapter to mount the system to the stock cat. It fit, but pushed the cat/down pipe forward so much that I could barely push the system together. I had to use quite a bit of force. This was not acceptable. Since I liked the quality and look of the Extreme system, I really didn't want to use something else. So I opened up the wallet and called Extreme and ordered the matching down pipe and catalytic converter (3"). It was very expensive, but looked extremely nice when it arrived at my door. The following weekend, I jacked up the GSX and took my two stock components off. I mounted the two new components and guess what? Everything matched PERFECTLY!! I used their special clamps, which made the installation a piece of cake!! A few hours later, I started the car up. WOW!! A little loud in the garage, but not obnoxious. I walked 100 feet away and I could still hear the car idle. I got in and took the car for a ride. I could definitely hear a difference from stock. But that was expected!! Anyway, I go for a drive without any kind of aggression. After 10 minutes or so, the exhaust quieted way down! I opened her up some and the system came alive; like an angry grizzly chasing a hunter. Well, it's been like that since (about 1200 miles). When I first start the car, it's a little loud. After warm up, it's fairly quiet at an idle. At 70mph, it's noticeable, but not drowning (like the Greddy unit I had on my '97 Talon). The unit looks VERY, VERY good from the back. I can definitely feel a difference in the mid to upper power range. Get this system!!

Current Mods: UIP, BOV, Intake, Plugs, Wires, Gauge

Troy, do you have any pics of the extreme exhaust on your car? I'm in the market for a new exhaust and right now its still a toss up between them all, however I like the way the GReddy evo looks and LOVE the way it sounds, not loud like the Thermal or Dunk. I'm just worried about how the GReddy evo will match with aftermarket cats/dp's etc. Any input or other pics would be appreciated. Thanks!

Troy,

I would also really like to see a picture of the extreme exhaust. I already have the extreme 2.5 dp and 2.5 cat, my
HKS exhaust is pretty beat up so I am looking for a replacement that will match up pretty good, but I have yet to see a 2G with the extreme exhaust. Any pics or a link to a page with one installed would be great!!!

Thanks
Scott

so you gotta buy the downpipe and cat converter along with the cat system in order for the cat system to fit onto the car??? that means you're looking to spend at least $700. That's expensive.

Oh, and to the author of this thread. What is your opinion on Buschur 3" cat back system and Thermal 3" cat back system? like sound quality. I don't want to be driving around making annoying lawnmower sound hehe...

Ok, Ok...Enough praising of ExtremeMotorSports...I bought the 3" Turbo Back from and extreme and had the following problems:
1. They didn't tell that another part was on backorder and was held for about 2 weeks.
2. I got everything in and the slip on cat, didn't slip on...they told me to take it to a muffler shop and have them flare the ends of the cat. I went there and they tried to flare it...opened it up about 2mm. Not enough and too close to the weld to flare it anymore. Called Extreme and ordered a new one...
3. Got the new cat and slipped on, but when I tried to put everything together the down pipe and exhaust pipe had to be trimmed off about 3.5" total for it to fit. I called extreme and they said this was normal and to have it cut...ughhh!

Aside from all the frustration, the guys up there are very knowledgable, and very courteous. Everytime I had a problem the told me(very nicely) to take care of it myself or wait for them to ship me new stuff. Would I order from them again? Sure, they have good stuff that looks and performs fantastic. I just wish that they checked the fit of their stuff b4 they ship it, which I will have them do next time.

That's my $0.02
