View Full Version : What turbo are you running?

Ok I figured I'd ask this question to compare with other A/T DSMer's. I'm running a Super 16G with a High flow exhaust mani(Tubronetics). Lag isn't as bad as what people think with it, but I'm still on the stock TC. That will change this Sunday, installing LEvel10 TC. :) Go ahead and post what you run and what kind of times you've run with it. Later

dang it.. I wish I had AWD.. would probably do a couple tents better. Anyways.... I still have the good old T-25 (76k miles on it now) In spring changing to possibly FPBig 28.

I've only been to the track once with this car, and that was still with the stock BOV and UICP (and T-25, of course). It was a 1/8 mile track and my best time was 10.1. I was a little disappointed, to say the least. I'm sure that I am a few tenths faster now with the TurboXS BOV.

Damn a 14.5 with the 13G, that's awesome. The best I ran last year, haven't made it out to the track yet, with the T25 was a 15.1 @96 MPH. That was on a cold night and I was spinning with my drag radials. I wish I had AWD. :)

When I ran the 14.507 I was getting insane counts of knock. It was up around 30+ at the top of 3rd. This year I'm shooting for high 13's with 100oct unleaded on the 13g. Last year around this time I was running mid 15's in the heat now, I'm running high 14's in the heat. Hopefully, when it gets cold out I'll be able to run my high 13 with just 450's and s-afc. I'll keep you guys posted.
Here's the slip for those of you that want proof:

I'm running a 14B from a five speed, everything else on the car is stock except for a K&N and a VR4 fuel pump. works well, spools as fast as the 13G did.

Im still on the T25 best time so far is 14.50 at 95.5 with a 2.11 60' time. Since then I have added a 3" turboback, light rims, and awesome tires, but only had one run at the track. I got a 14.60 but I had a 2.35 60' because i didnt launch hard enough.

ouch, that's what I ran bone stock. (well I had dump tube mod, but thats all) - and you have a GSX so your launch should be way better than mine. And I thought my car was slow - phewie :)

With your mods you should catch at least low 15... I think. What was your trap speed ?

I'm running a unported 6cm fpT28/28 still with the stock spacer ring. My mods are on my sig. My best time with no spray and stock cams was a 12.7 @ 105mph. With a 75 shot and Crower stage 2 cams I've ran a 11.91 @114.4mph. I'm hoping I can run a 12.5 with no spray with the new cams.

ukyo

My GSX pulled me to a 15.299 @ 88.69 with the T25 and a poor 60' time of 2.11... especially since it's AWD. I haven't got the hang of power brake versus tree just yet. ;)

That run was made with a leaking 1G VR-4 BOV and without the end clutch or shift kit. I didn't realize just how bad the BOV was leaking until I got the TurboXS on there and promptly spiked to ~27 PSI on my first test run  Needless to say, I backed off instantly and backed it down a lot.

Looking for a 14.7XX @ 92.XX MPH next time at the track with mods in the sig... if I don't get the FP Big T28. With the new turbo I'm looking for 13.5X @ 102.XX MPH (I hope, I hope, I hope).

Hey Nano, what kind of differencedid the cams do for you. The Crower stage 2 cams are what I'm looking at getting. Did they seem to help spoolup or power throughout the RPM range? Thanks.

Please give us a review whe you put that bad ass turbo on (te L2R) this turbo looks like the best turbo for an a/t ever. 550 hp, and full boost around 3600 rpms. Some day when I win the lotto, I want to run that turbo with 9:1 comp. on a 2.4l stroker motor, so every body that talks smack on my a/t can kiss my ass. Currently I run the weak ass t-25(and mine has 107,000 mi on it). I'm betting If I was on race gas and it was a realy cold day I could pull a 15.5(maby). i'm starting to think that a/t, 107,000 mi, and living at 4800 ft above sea level is a bad combo for going fast.

Actually they pull a lot better then stock cams from 4krpm to 7kprm. It makes the biggest difference from 5500 to reline. They helped my time go from a 12.1 @112.2 to 11.91 @ 114.46. The car gained 2.26mph wich is quite a good gain. Here's some more stuff I wrote about my spool up problems with them. They defenetly slow my spool up quite a bit.

16G. Mods here (http://ydrsbtr.jsalmi.com/talon/mods.html). Haven't gotten it completely assembled or to the track yet, but I'm getting anxious to. :D

The 16G is a free, temporary solution. I'd like to run a Sleeper 16G or an 18G, but chances are I might just put in a Mitsu 20G and a small dose of laughing gas to help it spool.

I dunno. It's my wife's anniversary present, and she wants it to be "peppy".

Small 16G w/ 6cm turbine housing - ported, no clip. AKA "the spoolinator" :) Gets high 12's at 2,700ft. Sea level should see some mid 12's. Nice street/strip turbo for the A/T in my opinion.

On my 13g I ran a best of 14.6@97. Not too impressive. On my small regular 16g I have a best this year of 13.4@106. FWD makes it tough to get a good launch but with nitto's I have managed a 2.2 60 ft here and there and that helps with the e/t. I just found out my intake cam is off 1 tooth and thats why my idle has been so crappy and possibly why I have 18 knock at 92v in 3rd gear. If I can get that t-belt job done (AGAIN, ugh) before the next import day I hope to score a 12.9 to close out the season.

I have a friend up here with an almost identically modded ig fwd m/t car (he has 550's, I don't) and we are very close in our best times. somehow my little a/t is 2/10ths ahead of his 5 speed. gotta love that

Well got a new time for the year.

14.524 @ 104.454 MPH 60' 2.692 :(

I just couldn't build any boost at the line. I must have a boost leak, but I'm just hoping it's not the Level 10 TC. :( I love my MPH, it would be good for high 12's low 13's with a good 60'. ;)

ukyo
10-05-2002, 11:53 AM
Well, I got the FP Big 28 in and ran the car. Was unable to build any real boost from the line, and the best 60' time was 2.2. The car got a new best time, but no where near what I was hoping for. 15.012 @ 92.68 with the boost set at 15.5 PSI.

I've never been a believer in ehxaust mods, but now I am 1000% sure that the stock DP & cat are killing me with this turbo. It pulls good up top, but has no power down low. Looks like it's time to drop a few more bills in to the GSX and get her in to the low 14s / high 13s.

Exhaust mods make a huge difference in turbo cars overall. Make sure you don't have boost leaks and get a full turbo back exhaust.

I should believe in exhaust mods, but when my 3000GT VR-4 can hit 13.0 and trap very close to 106 MPH with all 3 stock cats in place, stock DP, and stock cat back on pump gas it makes me wonder just how much exhaust work is really needed on any car. There's another 3/S owner that just ran 12.75 @ 107.00 with just a BC, filter, BOV, light weight flywheel, and RPS Stage 2 clutch. He too still has all three cats in place, stock DP, and stock cat back. But... all cars are different, and the Eclipse seems like it will benefit a lot more from the exhaust work. I'll be adding in the DP soon to see what it does. If that does not wake it up then I'm going to build a leak tester to make sure I'm not wasting power the most common way. ;)

Does any one kow if the Apexi N1 DP will bolt to the stock cat back until I can get the money up for the rest of it? And if it won't, what DP will bolt to the stock cat back???

97GSTAT
10-06-2002, 12:11 PM
Umm...Imagine how much faster you'd be with exhaust mods on your VR-4. Exhaust mods on any car are benifital, especially on a turbo'ed car. Trust me, if you get exhaust mods for both your cars you won't regret it.
