Autometer tranny temp guages?

I like the new cobalt line but they only have engine temp. Can I just use the sender from a tranny temp guage and hook it up to a water temp or will it be inaccurate.

They have a different range so I am not sure how they work.

Also who other guages do you recommend if the autometer wont match I am thinking of nordskog(sp?)

VDO and Isspro also make tranny temp gauges. I like the Isspro stuff-- I have their boost gauge and it's great. Hoping to get their EGT gauge soon.
