I have a 1992 Eagle Talon and just wanted to pass on some info based on a recent experience.
If your overdrive is fried, just replacing the friction and steel plates may not fix your problem. Save yourself some aggravation and plan to do the seals at the same time.
Luckily it only cost me $150 CDN to have this re-done properly at a trustworthy transmission shop.

What exactly do you mean by fried? Because my overdrive has become nonexistant. When overdrive is on and the tranny attempts to shift from 3rd into OD, its EXACTLY like I shifted into neutral...i mean, nothing is there, no power.
I would REALLY love to hear that this problem is just a $150 fix.

True.
When I did my FAQ (a while back) in the end clutch, I did not do it (I was only at 40K or so). I am hoping to get the procedure on the site when I rebuild my spare tranny.
I have the seal kit in hand (Alto Red Eagle). It is a mess of O-Rings and bolts. Time is my enemy.
The Alto Powerpack Upgrade is to prevent the end clutch failure which will in turn cause the seals to go as well. If you open an ATSG book on the F/W4A33 tranny and look up end clutch failure, there is a helluva list of things that "could" be wrong.
Here are some:
Improper adjustment of manual linkage
worn inside diameter of front clutch retainer
Malfunction of valve body (sticking valve, adjustment etc..)
Malf. of End clutch or piston (check ball hole or other)
Malf. Of park/neutral position switch damaged or disconnected wiring or adjustment
Malfunction of Overdrive control switch
and Malf of trans control module
You would be lucky to get a tranny shop around here to even look at your tranny for $150 (DC Area). Too many cars not enough shops.
Last time I heard, a filter and oil change on our trannys was around $129.00.

92dsmpos, that is the exact problem I was having. Mind you I did know the guy who did the work on mine so i could pay him cash but it shouldn't cost that much more for you - as long as the shop you go to is honest.
