Recentley whenever my car is off for a period of time when i drive it, it has a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd gear plus it seems like it looses power but the engine is revving higer, but after a few minutes or i get to around 35-45 it stops and drives perfectley again.. shifting from 1st to 2nd is shifts fine and everything...I also jus replaced the AT fluid and its still doing it. :(

I've heard that the ATF needs to heat up abit for the tranny to shift properly. Mine does the same thing in the morning but after a few minutes of driving it's fine.

have u checked your fluid level? the reving but no power would suggest bands/clutches slipping from insufficient presure to the servo/s. but perhaps when alls heated up it regains pressure..
so id be checking fur fluid level

As in too much or too little tranny fluid? I experience similar problems w/ my ride as KY...does.

I am having the exact same problem with my car. I have an automatic 99 GSX and it shifts funny (or doesn't shift) in first and second gears also. It mainly only happens when the car has been sitting for a while, but sometimes it happens while I am cruising around town. I have noticed that my "O/D off" light on the dash is no longer coming on when I take the care out of overdrive. Is yours doing the same thing???

My o/d lights work but my economy light is out.. if its a tranny problem besides soemthing like a torque converter needin to be tightened im sayin fugg it and either gettin a new car or a motor/tranny swap

or at least some of it is. The ECU/TCU does not allow full boost and 4th gear until things have warmed up. Mine has done that since new...

i would think if your hitting 4th gear things have warmed up lol, i hit 4th gear at 120mph

Come to find out all of my forward gears besdies 4th were starting to go out and reverse was starting to also.. so the tranny's being rebuilt and since this is gonna be costin me a grip might as well look for a newer motor too since its at 120k.. is there any real difference between the 1g 4G63 and the 2G 4g63 (besides the greater chance for crankwalk)
Another thing... do trannys do the stuff that i described before in this post because it seemed like it was maybe a tranny oil pump (i think thats what they said on here) or the torque converter and then abracadabra your shit fugged and u need to get a rebuilt tranny.
I have a 1992 Eagle Talon ESi ( auto obviously) and I don't know what's wrong with it. First off, I don't have the manual and I can't tell what warning light is telling me. It is in the set of three farthest to the left and at the bottom of the gauges, it's the third one all the way to the right. It looks like a square with slits in it or something. What is it? Second, when I am driving in like 1st or 2nd and I slow down for a car to pull off or turn or something, and then I punch it, my engine starts revving to like 5 or 6k rpms but I don't accel at all like I'm in neutral. I have checked and changed my ATF but still does it. What can I do?

GT4K...
The light you see is for the coolant reservoir. Make sure that it's fillep up to the proper level and that your coolant system is also full. As for the tranny stuff, it seems to me like your in for a rebuild soon.

Husterk, I have a Auto 99' GSX also and I think I know what your talking about, but mine is a little different.
If I have the car running (temp gauge in the middle, operating temp), and then go to drive it, its like it shifts really hard or almost like it sttuters. But If I give it some more gas and hold it through the gear, it shifts fine? Dunno.
My biggest problem, since day one though has been something hard to explain.
Say....I am on the highway. (usually only happens in higher gears/higher speeds) Ill be driving with the OD on, and just cruising, not going full throttle. Probably in 4th gear id say, I will be giving the car gas, but the revs will be dropping and the car is trying to downshift....but I am not flooring the car, or giving it enough gas to take off to make it downshift. Its like the car is lagging real bad, and unless I give it a lot of gas to force it to downshift, it will sit there with absolutly no power and I feel like I am moving at 10 mph.
So pretty much, I can not just sit and cruise on the highway, I am constantly downshifting, then climbing back to 4th gear, having it lag and drop to under 2500 rpm and then downshifting again, all while I am just trying to keep a constant speed of say, 75mph on the highway. It gets REAL annoying after a year or 2.......
One thing I notice, it doesnt do it with the O/D Off, but I dont wanna stress the car on the highway with it off, so I try and keep the O/D on.
Well my transmission is just getting worse and slipping more often. I am trying to sell it but without any luck so far. I am facing the fact that the tranny might die before I sell it. Here is my question. How much does a new transmission cost and how much does it cost to rebuild my current one. And I have been thinking, I've always wanted this car to be standard anyway, would it make any sense to convert it to a manual? How much extra does it cost and would it be worth it?
Converting to a 5spd isn't worth it unless your doing it yourself. You'll need a new clutch and preasure plate, Tranny, transfer case, front axles, rear diff, shifter assembly, pedals, and clutch hidrolics. Not a quick task. Go to www.car-part.com for used trannies.

Im having a problem like that also and I posted it on here and people are saying its the ecu (leaky capicators) so today or tomorrow ima be rippin the ecu out and taking it to the electronics store and have them replace and soder some new capicators on. Hopefully this may help ya. peace:santa:
I have the exact same problem as Styles and KY, the revs actually drop in OD when you start to give it gas and your already going slow like say 30 MPH. Could it be low line pressure, or TPS settings?

Well, I fixed my problems....
My "O/D off" light was just a bad bulb.
The reason I was having so many shifting and bogging out problems was my spark plugs. The guy who owned the car before me put on a set of Taylor race wires and they were actually blowing the plug gap out (I guess they are just too high performance... :D ). They actually doubled the gap in less than a week. I replaced them with a set of NGK plug wires and iridium ix plugs and the car runs and shifts great now.
I guess the plugs were screwing up ECU signals which in turn was screwing up the TCU signals.
Hope this helps...
