I’m going to buy a mint 91 GSX auto w/87k miles in the next week or so. I wanted to ask a couple of NEWBIE DSM questions.

1)I know that the manuals have problems with the trans a lot, and that’s why I choose an auto. Does this make any sense?

2)This car is going to be used as a daily driver, but maybe one day I’ll throw in a 16G, FMIC, SAFC, boost controller,... is the automatic trans slower than a 5speed? I know for Toyota Supra’s the auto shifts really well and fast, how is the DSMs.

Thanks guy’s

JOE

Well, kinda. From what I've seen, the DSM 5-speeds aren't as sturdy as the autos. Some people disagree.

The consensus is yes. I've read that the auto sucks away about 10% more HP than the stick. So just add more power.:D
And do the shift kit and end clutch upgrades.

The auto tranny won't last long once you start modding. It is easier to get a new 5 speed or rebuild the 5 speed. I had a 95 TSI AWD auto and now a 5 speed, and i really like the 5 speed a lot more. When you launch using the auto, you'll have to power brake and it can't compare with launching with a 5 speed. If you do get an auto, get a shift kit.
