Last weekend I installed a new Carbon Fiber shifter on my A/T and I did something stupid... The shifter only had two wires to hook up to the O/D button, but the lead comming out of the stock shifter has three wires. I tried different combinations and discovered that it worked with two of the wires connected and the third (black) simply clipped off. Well, first time I road tested it and pressed the O/D button a heard a pop in the radio and the alarm chirped once, then the O/D light stopped comming on.

I went back in and thought it trough a little more... I'm figuring that the wire I clipped was the ground and I either tripped a fuse or shorted something. I've since grounded the black wire, but the O/D light won't come on. I haven't gotten it up to cruzing speed yet to see if the O/D kicks in or not...

Does this sound correct (black to ground)??? And if so, how do I reset the O/D? If it is a fuse... which one and where is it???

Thanks

gonzo85050...

Try swapping the 2 wires that you connected at the shifter. See if that turns the light on. As for the black (ground) attach it to the chassis or shifter base...

Well, it's fixed...

The check engine light came on and I lost acceleration quickly. Fortunately I was only five min away from the dealership. They established that it was wired incorrectly and rewired it. They were not able to get the O/D light to come on again, but the O/D does engage and disengage with the button.

Best I can figure, the three wires must be a ground, a lead to the O/D light, and a lead to the O/D (tranny). Since the shifter only had two wires (I figure one ground and one pos lead), I could get either the light or the O/D to respond, but not both. I did try grounding to the body, but obviously that did help because it left me with a neg wire attached to a pos lead.

Someday I'll climb back in there and try and rig up a relay off the lead going to the tranny and see if I can get the O/D light functioning again.

The shifter came from a local shop who said that this shifter was designed for a Nissan, but he had a customer using it on an eclipse and that it would work for me. You can see/buy it at: southwestautoworks (http://store.yahoo.com/southwestautoworks2002-store/autshifknob.html)

Thanks for the link, ill look into it. I wonder if they will work on a 93. Is your shifter itself oval or round? Mines oval, Ill call them and see if they think it will work

if you have 2 hots and 1 ground, you CAN tie both hots to the pos side of the switch and the neg to the neg and when it engages it will ground BOTH sides of the pos making the light and the O/D kick in... if not then somethings is really weird about how mitsu did that....
