I just got my Dakota digital transtemp gauge and probe, where should I mount the probe, on the side of the pan or what? thanks

also what is the ideal temp that the trans should run at?

Most of the probe kits come with fittings to just replace the drain plug. Find the right size and screw the temp probe into the drain plug area and you should be fine (check for leaks).

I ended up drilling a hole on the other side of the AT fluid pan, tapped it, and screwed the probe in there. I already had the tap so I went that route. Then I put some JB weld around the probe to make sure it didn't leak out any fluid.

That is probably the route I will go.
