Ok, i have a 91 talon tsi awd, with a 3" catback, k&N and boost controller and guage. I want to get a pocket logger. If i buy one now would it be a waste of my money and do i need to have more serious mods to get anything out of the pocketlogger?

It is a great idea to have a logger so you can have baseline runs to compare your extra modding runs so you can see if the car has become unhappy with what you did.

The pl for the 1g looks fun because there are so many more options like solenoid test and knock that I wish I could log:( .

as stated above...its a great tool to have for any mods...you can see whats actually going on...and its fun to screw around with anyway...i'd say go for it...you'll need it later anyway.

A pocket logger is a wise decision no matter what mods you have. It will be usefull now for troubleshooting and base lines and in the future when adding mods and making fuel adjustments.

Sort of based along the same line, I'm looking into either a pocketlogger or maybe a dsmlink. I thought about it for a while and realized that it would be better to understand what the graphs and read outs mean _before_ I have to know. Prepares me for when I toss on the bigger turbo and my baby doesn't like, I'll know already what she's trying to tell me rather then spend hours searching on dsmtalk :)

Would a dsmlink hurt or would it be the same consesus as the PL, it doesn't matter when you get it just get it?

It is a good Decision to buy on so you can know what your car is going. You can say its a dyno at hands. Go for it.............
But remember a turbo timer is a good investment too.

Does the S-AFC do the samething as a pocketlogger?

No, S-AFC only measures the amount of air entering the engine and modifies this signal to send to the ECU to obtain better air/fuel ratios. It also monitors throttle, rpm, and optionally O2 voltage.

Do I need a pocketlogger and a S-AFC?

The pocketlogger is for monitoring purposes only. It does nothing to change the fuel map or modify any signals. I have a SAFC and a pocketlogger. They work well together for tuning purposes.

i only noticed the digital tuning inc. at the top of the site after i was closing things out and signing offline, but thanks for input anyways. i assume you live in rockford il, i live in joliet, any events out your way/in general besides hot import nights (or something like that) on the 26th of november. I am trying to get a group of dsmers to tear it up that night if a few come to the chicago area, i am going to start a thread on it i think.

DSMlink will do everything a pocker logger will ever do plus more, I'm running DSMlink and I've only happened on a 16g upgrade and 3in turbo back exhaust.... yes I know gauges should go first but I got a badass deal :P anyways, the logging on it via graphs and what not are EXTREMELY easy to read and the forum for DSMlink is topnotch, you wont find *BETTER* tech support from any name brand companys, Tom and I think the other guy is Dave are amazing on their speed at answering their customers questions, and hell even the customers reply back with insightful information reguarding your logs/problems and questions.

I went with DSMlink over buying a logger, still waiting on my lappy or palm to log with though, friends are there for me until then though ;)
