Fellow DSMers,
in the past few days I've been experiencing a strange problem, let me try to describe it to you as clearly as possible:

1- I get into the car, I turn the key TWO clicks and happily look at the S-AFC pretty screen and moving letters, proudly reminding myself that *I* installed it... you know what I mean.

2- Wait for the 9-or-so beeps to quit, turn the key and attempt to crank the beast.

Sometimes it just fires up and voila', I'm heading towards my destination... but some other times... here's what happens:

I hear a violent 'CLICK' around the ECU area, the S-AFC dies, the seat belt gets stuck. Or some other times, instead of everything dying, something WORST happens: there's like a short contact or something, and all the lights in the car start 'oscillating' like a strobe light, and the AFC flashes QUICKLY, like trying to boot to the Intro Screen that I like so much and loosing the power, like 15-20 times per second... and at the same time I hear a clicking, a rattling noise by the right back seat...

Now, when this second thing happens, I get really pissed off because I am 'anal' about my things, I am always careful and I *HATE* (HATE, HATE!!!!) looking at the S-AFC firing up so many times one after the other... I am afraid that thing is gonna burn out or something.

Now, I don't know if that could help, but I usually pop the hood, turn around the (tight) positive terminal of the battery and move the battery a little, and after a couple of tries, it starts.

Please note that the battery IS NOT touching the Strut Bar, NOR the hood.

I know it is hard to diagnose such a thing, it could be anything, but I am posting this hoping that maybe some of you guys out there have experienced this before and maybe put me on the right track... otherwise I'll be tearing apart my poor baby tomorrow morning, and check all the TT, AFC etc connections...

Please enlighten me if you have an idea...

Thank you in advance,

Walter

How about the negative terminal on the battery? Have you checked that for tightness? The only other thing I can think of is the ECU or voltage regulator in alternator is bad...

hope this helps...

have you replaced the caps on your ECU? that would explain the clicking behind the radio that you hear, and if the ECU is eaten up by leaky caps, it could also explain the other weird stuff happening.

GSX90: Thank you for the reply. The negative side of the battery is tight, the alternator is brand new (2 months)... so I don't know what it could be...

pb4ugotobed: Thank you too, which ones are the caps that you are talking about? Please let me know so I can check them out.

Anyways, I'll try to clean the battery contacts once again, and tighten the battery down better.

Please keep the answers coming,

Regards,

Walter

The caps are in the ecu in your dash behind and below the stereo and they NEED to be replaced ASAP!! Go to www.vfaq.com for info on this. I would say thats your problem.
