View Full Version : 1G K&N FIPK On a TSi
I followed Alamo Motorsports instructions for adapting the FIPK to a 1G turbo car. Pretty vague. Eventually I figured out how to bend the brackets the right way to make them fit. It seemed to work better without bending the "L" bracket and using the second hole from the end on the "Z" bracket. I also removed the silencer at the same time. Now the car has a meaner sound and you can really hear the BOV too. Seemed to gain a little throttle response and power across the band.

How much did the FIPK cost? Did you buy it from Alamo or just used their instructions? How was the experience dealing with Alamo, were they helpful?

Is it ok to just remove the aircan and put in the K&N replacement filter or does the FIPK allow for better performance gains? I would think they would be almost the same, but the FIPK is like $50 more expensive.

I actually bought the FIPK from carparts.com with a 33% off coupon so it was around $95 I think.

My reason for buying the FIPK instead of just the K&N filter was my friend had a NT DSM that he put a K&N on. Remove the air can and attach the filter to the MAS using the clips right? Except one of his clips fell off. Car was sucking in air and whatever else straight into the MAS. They hold the filter on ok but I'm not sure for how long maybe its different on turbo DSM I'm not sure but I didn't want a clip to fall off and start sucking all kinds of shit into the turbo. The FIPK comes with a ring you put over the filter and then the clips go into that. It has a lip around it so they can't come off and it fits nice and snug. Is the extra piece of mind worth an extra $60, thats up to you. I think the FIPK filter is a little bigger and nicer looking too but thats just a bonus.
Oh I forgot to add, the FIPK comes with brackets to secure your filter to the air snorkel so it doesn't flop around. I opened the hood after installing it and blipped the throttle a couple of times and it didn't move. I know on my friends NT DSM after he put the K&N on the MAS he could actually hear it hit the hood sometimes when he really got on it. As far as performance differences I'm sure the FIPK and just putting a regular K&N on the MAS are the same. They are both K&N filters after all! You are just paying for the brackets and a nicer looking filter with the FIPK.
