I have a squeak everytime i start the car and when there is a strain on the motor i replaced all the belts and that didnt work so i replaced the altinater and it still did it so i took that back and then i disconnected the A/C belt and that stopped it squeaking when i first start it but it will still do it when i am at idle and turn on the rear defogger and some times it wont go away until i get into 3rd gear it just gets louder as the rpms get higher so if you know what it is or have suggestions please help. Thanks.

Even though you replaced the belts, check the tension. You may have them too tight or too loose.

ive noticed alot of 1g's that do that. my friends does it all the time no matter the tension i think his pulley might be glazed if that can happen?

Is it possibly a bad bearing in one of the pulleys, you think?

eh... i think in my case, even with good pully and good tension, the altenator is just... gone, its the original, and im running a stereo on it to, so its probly on its way out. but yeah, bad bearing could be problems as well.

I agree with everybody. Tighten down tha alternator. I had to do the same thing w/ my 1.8 and the GST.

everytime I have had a squeak on either of my cars it was the power steering pulley... I just sprayed them with Wd-40 until I could find time to take the pulleys off and re-grease the bearings.
hope this helps...

i read all the stuff on here, n i took off my a/c belt, 4 the xtra power, & 2 try 2 stop the squeaking, but that didn't help, i put on a brand new power steering belt, that didn't help, but the alternator belt was so stretched, i had the belt stretched as far as i could get it b4 the alternator would fall off, n then that worked fine, until 2 days ago when it started squeakin 4 the 1st time again, n i reemed on it, n as soon as i pushed the clutch down, it blew off, n i got a serpentine belt 4 like 12 bucks, n now i haven't heard a single squeak, so change the alternator belt,
