Ok, since I'm in a nice mood today I'll tell ya, but you should do a search. I've talked about this before. Try Marvel's Mysery Oil. That works pretty well. If it's bad enough you may have to clean the lifters or better yet, get the revised lifters.

You can flush them to get rid of whatever grit or air bubbles are in there. Hold RPM at 3000, count to 10 and slowly let it come back to idle. Repeat that until the noise goes away (it will in most cases). It'll probably come back at idle or the next time you start it though. If you've got more than 120K and you've run it with no thermostat, drive in cold weather a lot, or have had the tick for a while, they're probably in need of replacement. A new set of lifters will cost you 115.00 from Talahasse Mitsubishi. They'll ship it to your door. 800 825 5648, ask for Jeremy in parts.

I just noticed my lifters ticking yesterday, and wow is it annoying. I never heard it before though, I got out of my car and was outside on the passenger side and it was louder than my muffler. I tried the revving to 3k rpm thing a shitload, but still no help. I'm due for an oil change too, so I'm thinking that could be why.

Well back in the day when I had an old American 1.8... My Eclipse used to have lifter tick when the oil got low, or if I used a really thin oil. That was just my problem, thought I would share it :)

My lifters only tick when i start the engine then it goes away. I tried to put some lifter cleaner in the oil but it still ticks.

The best fix for this problem with the best results is to replace the old lifters with new larger ones. I rebuilt my engine over the summer and performed this mod with much success. My friend who was too cheap did not and his ticks like crazy.

All I needed was what I suspected, more oil. I threw in another quart tonight and it's running a shitload better, and quieter...for 3 days till I can get the oil changed anyway. I'm just glad it wasn't anything that would need replaced.:D
