View Full Version : Aluminum pistons and single cam gear, where can I get em?

Hey, I don't know if this topic's been discussed, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any places that made aluminum pistons for the 1.8, or any places that could make them for a 1.8 Eclipse.
Also, I know this has been discussed several times, but nobody's ever asked this question...at least not that I've seen. Is there any place where I would be able to order just one of the set of 2 cam gears for my 1.8, or would I have to order the set and just not use one?

I don't understand your question since the 1.8 motor is a SOHC one. You only need one cam gear and if someone sells it, it would be sold as one.

I know it would be sold as one, but what I'm asking is, will anybody just sell me one of the set of two, since you have to use one made for the 2.0L. Will someone hack the price of the pair of cam gears and sell just one of them, since there isn't one made for the 4g37 and you have to use ONE from the 2.0L set of two. I've seen the gears for the 2.0 for around $180 I think, so would someone sell me one of those two for half the price is what I'm asking.

Sorry, if I sounded mean or rude. That wasn't the idea...
As for your question...
I don't think that a vendor might sell them separately since that would leave them with a spare one that they would have a hard time selling separately. You could try contacting another 1.8 owner and ask him if he could split the price of a set. ;)

Don't worry, that didn't sound rude or anything, I didn't take it that way. Anyway, I'm gonna buy the set then try to sell one, since finding a 1.8 owner around here is nearly impossible. Thanks for the help. Any word on the pistons, just let me know.

Try contacting JE about the pistons. They *might* be able to do something custom for you...
Yeap, it will turn expensive but don't lose your hope yet...

He knows it is a SOHC motor. His question was: If a vendor could just sell him just one cam gear instead of the 2 that come in the set?? He's getting a cam gear set for the 2.0 engines...

i was asking for myself, not for him, i was just curious cause my 1.8 has DOHC unless those 2 gears sitting on top of the motor for some reason decided not to be cam gears anymore...

If your engine has 2 cams gears, then it is not a 1.8. Im pretty sure that all 1.8's were SOHC. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

all of the 1.8s are SOHC's if you have a DOHC then you have yourself a 2.0l(SCORE!!!!:D). if im wrong i really wanna know cause if a 1.8l DOHC exists i want it.

All 1g base models have the 4g37 SOHC 1.8L motor. All 2g base models have the 420A 2.0L
You my friend, have the 2.0L 4g63 non-turbo ;)
I might be interested in that cam gear if you're gonna buy 2 of em ;)

Talonblingbling, if you really want the other one, I'm gonna order the gears from MVP Motorsports, they're HKS, and they're 172 bucks. That would be 86 bucks each. I'll get them, then we can set it up so I'll send you one. But you gotta pay for the shipping, since I'm paying for the shipping to my house. Anyway, just let me know if you really seriously want one, cuz that's the only way I'm gonna order them.
BTW, I got my car back today, FINALLY, and the paint job is emaculate. I've officially got the nicest car in town:D I'll get pics up whenever I get them developed.

I'll probably be ordering Monday. I have to have either a cashier's check or money order before my parents will let me ship it, but it's a definite go for us splitting these.
Blackboost, a couple questions...the set of cam gears comes with 2 identical gears, and that's it? Just wondering if there's anything else that comes along that might interfere with talonblingbling and I sharing...? And have people used the one cam gear on their 1.8L before? Thanks.

I believe that after installing the cam gear you will not be able to use the upper timing belt cover. But don't worry about that.
One thing...
It would be very nice the transaction details could be kept outside of the forums, since our rules don't allow this kind of stuff in the forums. (PM or e-mails);)

Hey everyone, I'm gonna be ordering my cam gear today from MVP motorsports. Talonblingbling, sorry man, but they do sell them seperately, and the $172 price that I told you was for two, is actually the price for one. Sorry dude, but if you wanna get one, you gotta pay the full price, which sucks, but I hope well worth it, cuz I'm gonna be ordering mine today in about an hour or so. I'll let everyone know how it works out after I get it put on.
Blackboost, the retarding or advancing of timing with the gear...how exactly is it done? Can my fat greasemonkey do it while he's installing it, or is it all something I can do? I'm sure there are certain torque specs and everything, so maybe I should let him do it? Just let me know sometime before Wednesday, I'm hoping that's when I'll get it. Thanks a lot in advance.:D
