Nick, I would suggest cutting the lower portion of your bumper cover soon so that it doesn't remain in that bowed condition it appears to be in now. (I'm taking into consideration the image distortion from the lens too) Other than that, looking pretty good. I know a few of your supporting mods too (since I packed and shipped them out) and gotta say you're headed in the right direction. Keep on truckin' ;)

Is that for real? The FMIC looks to be too tall to retain the hood latch. And since there's no hood pins, I would have to assume the hood latch is still in there. Looks really PIMP though.

Yes it's real, that car is the 4G63.com sponsored SCCA car, I think it got 2nd last year in the SCCA Ultima Street Car Challenge. It's a 700hp GSX, was also featured in Sport Compact Car a couple of months ago.

Uhh... Negative.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but you were misinformed. And there is a difference between the Sports Car Club of America and Sport Compact Car magazine.

Roy Narvaez's car, (the car above), competed in the SCC (Sport Compact Car mag) Ultimate Street Car Challenge and placed 2nd. I have had a subscription to SCC for about 2 years and this car was never featured beside the fact that it competed in USCC. Lastly, I have no idea if it has raced in an SCCA race or not.

The wildest thing about the car from looking at it is the way he chopped up his bumper to fit a gigantic Spearco core measuring 28x14.3x3.5

The type of car that makes you say, "Whoa."

by SCCA I meant the Ultimate Screet Car Challenge, my terminology was wrong. I've personally seen it on the cover of Sport Compact Car magazine before, so yes it was featured and I have the magazine with me.

And yes, it does make you say woah, but wasn't it recently sold on Ebay?

How does that ram air intake where your stock mount used to be work, any good? I've heard people don't really see a big difference when they build something like that.

FASTWWD
03-21-2005, 11:32 PM
those people probably don't know what the hell they're doing.. lol.. i KNOW that it works very well.. it sure does get a lot of air to the filter.. the "round" circular patch of crap/dirt/etc. on the bottom of the filter proves that.. and via the datalogger, i get considerably lower iats while driving/moving.. i have compared the temps w/ the opening blocked (w/ tape) and unblocked... there's even a bigger difference during colder weather... but then again, YMMV...

Did you buy that, or is it a custom part? I'm interested, also did you have to cut under the filter since I think there is metal there blocking any type of modfication without cutting.

FASTWWD
03-21-2005, 11:56 PM
yes, you have to cut the sheetmetal.. all of the parts for the cold air intake are from home depot.. it just took some "custom" assembly... the front air duct is a 1 off custom piece made by yours truly (1st time playing w/ fiberglass and bondo by the way).. here are some pics of the cold air install from 1 of my few "earlier" posts..

hope this helps you out.. like i said, it gets some good outside air (ie, cold(er)) into the intake.. this can only helps things out.. i'm sure it helps my car's performance even more so, when i'm actually hauling azz.. instead of only having "380 whp" sitting still on a dyno, w/ the hot/stale stagnant air feeding the engine..

Thanks, his picture has really helped me, I will probably follow those pictures and do the same thing. I also saw this used on Kilurv8's car which is spectacular so it must be good for something. Question, do you guys still take out the head light for racing at the track or is it really unecessary with this setup?

Please just post pics of Intercoolers. If you guys want to discuss things use PM's so we can keep this area uncluttered. It's a PITA to scroll through a page of talking when what we all come here for is to see FMIC installs. ;)

Thanks! I actually did all the piping myself. The pipes are just pie cut at in 15 degree increments and TIG welded together with a back purge. The piping I got costs me $2/foot and is rejects from a food processing plant. You should see the inside. It is like chrome. I spose it doesnt really matter though.

Yeah...looks like a 1Gb...haven't yet cut the front of the bumper cover to let more air in, if that's what you're looking for. Very much stock looking for now. Cut the backsides of the fog light bumper cover "posts" so the IC pipes would clear. I'll post them later if I get a chance

hope this helps you out.. like i said, it gets some good outside air (ie, cold(er)) into the intake.. this can only helps things out.. i'm sure it helps my car's performance even more so, when i'm actually hauling azz.. instead of only having "380 whp" sitting still on a dyno, w/ the hot/stale stagnant air feeding the engine..

Very impressive. I simply used the stock foglight hole, and some 3" dryer ducting routed to the factory SMIC hole. Yours however looks like a much more factory fit and finish which is what Id ultimately like to do.

Other people have already bolted evo fmic's up to our cars. I just wanted to do a short route piping instead of a bunch of bends. I wish I would have done a 90* elbow on the passenger side too, that allows for much more clearance. Right now, the pass side just barely clears the head light while the drivers side has plenty of room. It is tight between the frame rail and rad shroud. I had to do a decent amount of trimming. I still need to cut the pass through hole on the drivers side a bit more. If you notice, the fmic is mounted upside down from the evo, and both elbows are rotated backwards to help reduce the amount and severity of the bends.

I haven't bothered to pull the stocker off yet. I drove the car a little bit this year with the stocker rigged up (since the pro-m won't fit with my old upper i/c pipe).

The intercooler is 30x12x3 end to end, 24x12x3 core. 3" endtanks with 2.5" pipes. Fits nicley even with a/c.

Thanks...that is the exact size I just bought. Should be here in a few days and on next week.

That looks really good except you should probably make the mounting brackets black also. Then most people won't even know it's there.

Did you have the core anondized or did you spray paint it black?

I primered it, then sprayed it flat black.

I heard that anondizing it is better than spraying it..I think it's because anondizing doesn't add anything thick to the alum fins and spray paint will add a layer of paint which will act like a insulator or making it harder for the fins to cool as air moves over them..I could be wrong but I'm sure that's it..

... A whole new meaning to the phrase "hacked bumper"...Im not saying it looks bad, cause actually it is unique and quite good looking, but seriously...

WHere's the bumper?

Wouldn't want to get in a front-end collision/crash/or even 2mph tap with that thing and the intercooler riding up front like it's some kind of SUV Bumper guard

i was thinkin about gettin that setup.... did you have to do any modifications???

RedTurboEclipse
02-17-2006, 04:36 PM
yes, fog lights will most likely not work.. i had no problem because my car is a 95 with full conversion so i never had fog lights to begin with. also you have to cut the frame a lil to fit one of the pipes through.. this part was not fun and you should have a strong cutter. also the front bumper has to be hacked big time. and you have to relocate your coolant resevoir.

here is another pic

Its about 300+$ depending on the flange and if you want the Maf-t blow through.. Its made by that Ebay company Xs Power.

You can get it off ebay,, just go to the store search for Xs Power.

^^^Sorry for the enormous pics... but it is actually good for people interested in the kit. As you can see the core has some bent fins Rite out the BOX!!! No big deal to me though. Lets just see how it holds up. For $240 Bux with piping im def gonna give it a shot.

RedTurboEclipse
02-23-2006, 11:59 PM
nice pics man, you should post your pics on the big thread about this on tuners. all of us owners of the kit put our input and experiences. it definitely helps show others with install and shows how great the kit is for the money. its too bad yours came with bent fins. mine was packaged really professional. better than big brands. but i agree for the price, theres really no room to complain.

SpoolnV8
02-24-2006, 12:14 PM
^^^Yea personally i really didnt care... On my other car i have a Greddy 3-row... and it is far better quality than this one... but this will def work for me on my GSX. Ill have to check out that thread on Tuners.

BTW: From what i can see... it looks like these cores start out very very large... Like Thick... then they are cut into 3" wide Cores... If you look closly you can see how they are cut across the face of the core... Ill try to get some hi-res pics to depict what i am talking about.

PS: If these things hold up, it now is even cheaper to mod your DSM!!!

EbayFMIC $250
EVO316G $500
