Ok, I finally got around to removing my air can to see what all the fuss was about. Well, I got in and started the car. It ran fine, but when I drove it around to see how it would run, the car didn't run right. It semed to strugle a little bit on power. So I put the air can back on and it runs fine. I did some searching on this topic. One guy had a similar issue but no reason as to why and just left the subject at that. Any ideas why I was running like crap?

It might seem dumb, but: You didn't took out the MAS or forgot to reconnect it when you removed the air can right??
Sometimes when the air can is removed the air filter will get hit by the radiator fan's airflow which in turn might led to a crappy idle. You can try turning the idle speed a little bit up or giving the ECU 1 day or 2 to readjust itself...;)

The MAS was still there and I did reconnect it before I closed the hood.
As for the the radiator Fan's airflow, that makes sense. I'll try it agian this weekend and see how things go. Thanks again for your help! :D

did you reset your ecu to clear its previous air ratio memory?
Its getting more air then whats in ECU memory.. so it confuses it and runs like shit.
Disconnect the batt for 30sec - 1min.. reconnect.. then run it

Doh! I didn't think about that! That would make sense. Thanks! :)

I know I hate disconnecting the battery. To reset the ECU, open the main fuse box on the passenger's side, right behind the air box and pull the battery fuse (40A). Then open the small fuse block on the battery terminal and remove the fuse marked MPI. Replace in reverse order.

Why reset it??
Our ECU's are constantly learning about our engine and they adjust themselves per every change. But if the ECU is reset all the values stored into it are lost and the ECU will spend more time learning everything since she has to start from zero. Chances are that if you reset it, the car will run more rough from the start...:(
Here's the info straight from the guys at TMO (Todd Day): http://www.tmo.com/faq/diagport/970915.htm

But the 1.8 doesn't take nearly as long to get up to snuff as the 2.0 does. Generally, about 45 minutes of driving. If there was an engine error code, it will take much longer for the computer to realize that the piece is working again (30 starts with no errors, I think it is) than it would to just reset the computer. I do it whenever I disconnect anything, but not when I'm making adjustments. But that's just me.

For shits and giggles, I took off my Injen Intake and put my stock air hose and hacked aircan back on and I didn't run into any idling problems or power loss. The only way to run an open filter would be to run a cold-air intake. Still have to get some measurements done, but for now, no power loss from taking off the Injen and a much better idle and cruise engine speed.
