cool, a 4G64 forum!

Looking for someone with a 2.4 that has found an intake pipe
(to replace the accordian hose) from MAS to throttle body. Anyone find a kit or mod another car intake piping to get this
to fit? I also noticed that the MAS has an oval shaped outlet.
Also, the intake is reverse on our engines (passenger side).

Year and model info would be great. Since I already have a Concept Racing filter and adapter, I'm am just looking for 3"
aluminum piping with minimum hacking for a tight fit-

Dunno about minimum hacking...but I hacked a 420a pipe I got off eBay and it fits nice :)

Not bad. Looks like you had to keep a portion of the old hose
to connect the oval MAS output to a round intake tubing.
Couldn't you squash one of those rubber pipe couplers so
you wouldn't have to hack up the factory air hose?

Man, I wish they had a bolt on tube tho. Wonder why no one
makes one? A dude at this shop claims Injen is in the process,
but who knows if it is true...

Yea i hacked part of the stock hose so it would connect to the MAS. I swear I tried a 4"-3" coupler and it didn't work? Maybe I just dreamt the whole thing :)
Cutting the 420a pipe was so easy though, you only hafta make 1 cut and slap it on...so why wait & pay $70+ for a Injen when you can get one on eBay for $12 like i did :D

I got a 3" pipe from Ebay and I'll try this too. I'll post pics
once I'm done. I agree, I don't want to pay for an Injen intake
kit (if they ever offer one) when I all I really need is this pipe.
I'll try to see if I can get a rubber coupler to work on the MAS...

Is the accordian hose really all that restrictive??

*shrug* it's got a big ass crease in one side that's for sure.
And air flows better through metal than rubber :)

Yea, my accordian hose has a huge indention by the battery. Not sure how it got there but it doesn't help airflow. I think the idea is to get a smooth flow into the TB and keep the air as cold as
possible-

ever tried using the intakes made for the 2000 and up eclipses. im pretty sure that those would work with little if not any modification

Ok I am pissed off. My cheap intake kit came today for a N/T eclipse
with my hope to modify the tubing .( and flip since we have our intakes on the opposite side). I cut the pipe
so it would fit and could easily use a 4" to 3" coupler to make it work. However, after I cut their aluminum piping, I saw that they had welded a 2 1/2 pipe to a 3" pipe and didn't bother using
a single tube. The "dickheads" welded the 3" pipe on the MAF side and didn't bother smooothing out the transition towards the
throttle body. If you look inside there is this huge air trap where the two pipes meet in the direction of airflow. I wrote these clowns and told them that I would slam them on my ebay review to discourage other buyers. I feel better any way (even tho it was only $20):D I plan to use this pipe as a template and see if I can find a aluminized or chromed 2.5" pipe and make my own tomorrow. If I have to, I'll go to a muffler shop and have them make a mandrel bent piece that will fit perfectly and finish with ceramic paint. Anyhoo, it definately should be better than my accordian hose after looking at how kinked the inside was....

Finally done with modding the piping. I cut off about
4 inches off the pipe and used a small portion of the original
hose. I searched everywhere for couplings that would withstand heat and fit the 2.4L oval MAF.No luck at all...
I just cut off enough to couple the MAS output and
transition into the 3" part of the aluminum pipe. Everything is snug but was a bi*&ch to fit everything.

Think I'll redo part of my filter mount tomorrow with a better shield. :tat:

spyderdude...how do you get your hoses so shiny looking? I hope you're not using armor all or something like it...it will dry them out/crack them eventually, faster than usual of course.

Jeff,
no I haven't cleaned off any of the hoses since I got the car. I purchased it about a month or so ago and the engine must have
been detailed.

BTW, I added a true heatshield tonight since I already had a spare sheet of galvanized sheet metal and it only took my an hour. New pic loaded ontop of
the old one.. Tomorrow I'll take her out for a hard drive and see how things go..

I just bought an intake from my friend that was on his 6 or 7 g galant, whichever was the 96 style. he had the same motor, so I just gave him 25 bucks for it, you can see it on my post on DSM pix on the same site

I ended up getting a pipe from a group buy (that went VERY sour) and got a full 90 degree bent peice. I had to cut the hell out of it, but this is what (the only almost decent pic of) it looks like:

Nothing fancy, and I had to get a 4" to 3" pipe fitting, but it's decent.
