http://philtranfa.com/images/funny/smiles/wavey.gifhello all..... 98 eclipse gsx .... It's part of the family now and I am not going to be making this a 400whp beast, but would like to make this a respectable all around perfomer in due time. I personally have 96 nissan altima and a 98 honda civic ex also is part of the house hold. I frequent altimas.net and looked around for the eclipse to find this site. So far this seems like a good site. -Neal

Perhaps we need to find a politically correct term for Newbie so that they don't feel like a dumba$$? Something along the lines of "Beginner Technical Discussions" :D

I would agree. No offense, but if someone made the "Dumbass Forum" I dont think too many people would really want to post in it. Not to say that people wouldn't belong in there....but you know what I mean.

Proud as I am of my recent completely undeserved promotion to Standard DSM talker... lest we not forget there are a few senior poster's out there who you could easily justify DEMOTING back to Newbie. It would be nice if Newbie Forum remained a kinder - gentler place.

Just thought I'd drop in with my "New DSMtalker" label and say hi! Been lurking on the boards for a while and searched for some things that I found no problem... The search engine on here is great compared to some auto forums. I honestly appreciate the chance to post and talk to some people about my recently acquired car and I hope in the future to maybe make some "friends" in the DSM world. So far most people I've seen on this board are friendly and not overly confident about there cars. for example i've seen this many times "I have a make/model with a 302/350 and I can beat everything!" You've all seen these and they kinda get old. You all seem like level-headed motor freaks! :) THAT'S A COMPLIMENT ... well thanks for the chance to post!

I haven't been driving too much, just picking on some Hondas. all of them around here have rims, a muffler from AutoZone, and they think their the fastest around. me and a friend( 92 Talon Tsi) Have taught a few punks a lesson. Heck, my stock 90 Nissan Sentra taught them a few. heres a question, how do i get rid of my MAF or bypass to install a custom cold air intake? i havent recieved much help in other forums.

Your question was correctly answered in the Electronics Tech. section. If you want to remove your MAS and convert it to a MAP sensor, you need a VPC or a stand alone ECU like a Haltech. or an AEM EMS. Do a search on HKS VPC.

I wasn't looking for a $500+ answer to my problem. oh well, i just made a custon chamber for the MAF and installed a cone filter. works pretty good even for a bad MAF.

I would also like to say "welcome" to the newbies and say a few words of wisdom..
Enjoy the mods while they are cheap. Once you get the boost gauge, FP rewire and MBC type stuff out of the way, things start getting pricey. Enjoy it nontheless.
Owning a DSM is like dating a stripper. Sure, it's fun to ride and show off but, it will break your heart once in a while. When this happens, keep your head up, and ask your fellow DSMtalkers for advice.
After 3 years of modding/beating on my DSM, i must say... I love that damn car. :D
ECLIPSED4203
12-03-2002, 07:55 AM
thanks for the advice. the only reason i keep the car is because i fell in love with it instantly. this car makes you pay for the love and enjoyment it gives you. i'm actually glad i don't have to worry about a clutch or turbo going out. i plan on putting in a decently built motor this summer (N/A POWER!) , a very nice body kit, targa top conversion and a killer sound system. if i mod this thing for speed, ill have my license revoked in no time! hopfully no more woes this summer!

Welcome to the Forums!!:D
Start by reading the "We have seen this before" Forum, vfaq.com, the Talon Digest Archives at dsm.org so that you get an idea of what a 4G63 can is and what it can do.
Then visit the Advanced Forum and take a look at a few threads over there that talk of what can be done to stroke the 4G63...

Just saying hello (need to get this first post out of the way). I finally got my DSM. I have wanting one for some time now.
My car is a 92 Laser RS AWD. It’s lightly modified with a Frank Jr. 19c turbo, FMIC, 550cc injectors, hard pipes and such. I plan having some fun really moding this car. It’s not a daily driver so it should be fun seeing how much I can do with it (power wise). And I say that while the wife is out of the room! :D
Although I am no stranger to tuning, racing and generally talking sh*%, I look forward to learning from some of you experienced tuners here as well as hopefully extending some of my knowledge and experiences with the “new to tuning” crowd.
Peace.

Hey guys, another newbie here that just wanted to say hi. Currently I own a '01 Celica GT-S with some mods but I have to say one of the cars I've always wanted to own was an Eclipse. Right now I'm saving for a '95 GST or GSX as a kind of project car but when I get it I know the future of my Celica is going to be undecided. So far I've done quite a bit of research and all I can say is that I can't wait to get this car! :D

Me and my DSM, a love/hate relationship. We were all noobs at one point, and some of us still are (not mentioning any names here 'X') Some ways I feel "Been there got the t-shirt" sometimes, though its "WTF??" Either way, DSMTalk is a good place for sharing or asking advice - just don't ask how everyone likes your "flashy, F&F style, neon sporting, triple deck wing flexing, riced out whatever" well, go ahad, but put on a flame suit first. The best advice I can give (from personal experience) if you go off hte beaten path with mods, do your research first, THOROUGHLY. And take it slowly. It cost alot of money to mod twice because you skimped the first time. I'd say I have lost around 500.00 or so in cheap/half cocked mods. Do yourself a favor. What would you do with an extra 500.00??

Well, I hope your not assuming that just because I'm new to THIS site means that that's what I'm into. The plan for the '95 as far as looks goes is updated headlights, 97-99 bumpers, turbo spoiler, and a decent set of rims. All that F&F, triple deck spoiler stuff is rediculous IMO and if anything, I'd be the one doing the flaming.

I agree 110%. A steady plan before the modding begins is always a good idea. Since I still have a while till I even have enough saved up for the car, I've been doing alot of reading on various sites just to give me an idea of what's out there and what I can expect. Here's some of the sites that have really given me some insight:
http://www.extrememotorsports.com/g2stage/stageall.htm
http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/1g2g.htm
http://www.vfaq.com/
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/1g2gheadswaptechtip.htm
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/2g6boltmotorinstall.htm
And if you or anyone would like to share that'd be great too. The more reading I can get my hands on, the better. Otherwise, I'm VERY familiar with the search button.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe Type-R stickers on a DSM will put out at least 7.65 whp and that number jumps to 24.55 whp if you have them on both sides :D

I do not believe the Chat function works. Basically search for the things you want to learn about, read it, then post questions if you still have em'. Most topics are discussed over and over and are found when searched.

Hello all.
Few questions first:
What is crank walk?
What is lifter tick?
What is the fuel pump rewire?
What is a turbo timer?
What does "1G" mean?
Just kidding of course. :D
I've been lurking for some time now. I find this forum very interesing. I've never been to a forum that stereotypes the new guys so badly. Just because someone is new to the forum, does not make them new to the world or performance vehicles. I'm not trying to stir anything up, but rather voicing my opinion based on what I've seen so far. :)
A little background on myself:
I don't currently own a DSM yet. I've been searching for a AWD turbo 1g locally, but I'm afraid I may have to expand my search. Most of the local cars for sale are either over-priced junk, or non-turbo cars.
I've been into performance cars for around 15 years, mostly domestic V8's. My current daily driver is a 97 Z28, with some work of course. :) Since the stereotyping seems to be the norm here, no I don't have a mullet. ;) I have an engineering background. I also tend to do all my own work, including fabricating/machining my own parts for fun etc..
Well anyway, thought I'd finally step in and say "hey". :)
Later all,
Mike

I'm such a newbie and I'm not even gonna TRY and deny it.. I have a 91 Mitsu Galant VR4. It's pretty nice but needs some work.... and by some I mean a lot :( My very first post on the board thought I'd go for the newbie thread. Hope to find out a lot about all the problems with my car and hopefuly not have them cost an arm and a leg when I try and fix them. See you all around.

is there an easier way to get the timing belt back on? u know, with out taking off all the other pullies, and belts...
how improtant is the "middle" timing belt cover? cuz i broke mine.
there are 4 "lines" comming off of the stock turbo... oil feed, oil return, and 2 water lines. i just upgraded the turbo. on this turbo, there is no water line connections. so can i just connect the 2 water line connections comming off of the engine with a hose? i guess u can call them anti-freeze connection lines also. im only guessing, cuz anti-freeze poured out when i took the connections off.
which fan is the one that cools the engine? the one on the right or the left?
whats wrong with a greddy type s? everyone talks shit about them...
this is all i can think of right now... will repost if anything else comes up.
btw, my name is habib, and i guess i am new to dsm's, cuz the title under my screen name says so. but that really doesnt matter to me. only thing right now that conserns me is my car, which i want to get to drive again as soon as i can. its a 97 gsx and is currently getting a turbo upgrade (t3/t4). the most work i ever did on a car before this was changing a battery. so i admit, i have no idea as to what im doing. but so far everything has gone according to plan until now. i cant get the timing belt back on. with that said, if there are any suggestion on how to do that please let me know.
thanks

I have an Auto. 95 mits. Eclipse. Now ready for the story? Well i went to start it and when i did the RPMs when from the normal 2000 or so and shot down to 0 in about 1 second, I had to start my car and keep it running by hitting the gas. then i drove it for a while thinking it could be the battery. Now it starts fine but it idles and 500 RPMs and im pretty sure thats not right. This morning I started the car like normal but when i was stoping at a stop sign it made a loud nose (kinda like if my brakes where down to the bare) It stoped doing that after the second stop i made. Now i dont know if that has anything to do with the RPMs but i thought you guys should know the whole story. Well hope to find something out.

Im not a newbie to DSM's but I'm not an expert. I owned a 90 Laser Rs Turbo. 2.5" exhaust, hollowed cat, slowboy flexpipe, SBR S16g, and Joe P. MBC (17psi). Best trap speed was 102.01 and best e/t was 14.295 on the brakes due to bracket racing. Im working on doing a 4g63t into a 89 Colt 1.5l and hope to have it done early june.

Your best bet is to find a turbo motor and do the swap, but you will need Turbo cams, Intercooler piping, Blow off valve, Intake pipe, Sidemount Intercooler or Front mount, turbo injectors (450cc), 91 turbo ecu, you can keep stock n/t internals but you can only run stock boost, turbo exhaust, most obivous thing a TURBO, as far as vaccum lines go i would do vaccum line elimination.
Thats as much as I can think of for now if I remember anything else i will let you know.

To all you newbies. If you just bought your DSM, you might want to check out the vfaq for the intercooler cleaning bit and do it. This is what you will find residing in your coolers and stoping them from full potential.

Hey Guys, this is my first post on here.
I'm buying a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX on Wednesday of this week. I test drove it today. It's a pretty sweet car. Fastest that I've driven. :)
See, I've never owned a turbo charged car. I've always loved them. I drove a few in the past but never something that really had serious power to it. So i'm really, really new to the whole thing. :o :o
I think that your forums and guides will help me with a lot of my questions and give me some really good advice.
One thing the owner stressed to me was to take modding very slowly and carefully because if done improperly, it can cause a lot of headaches and really hurt my pockets. So I will definetly take my time and do my research before asking a stupid question or buying useless parts.
Well here's a list of the mod's in my new GSX:
# Ported Mitsubishi Tdo5h-16g Turbo
# 550cc Fuel Injectors
# IPO SX Adjustable FP Regulator
# HKS Electronic Valve Controller (EVC-II)
# 2G MAF Sensor
# Crushed BOV w/Check Valve
# Bosch In-Line Fuel Pump
# HKS 30/20 Boost Gauge
# HKS EGT Gauge
# Injen Air Filter
# 2.5" Mandrel Bent Intake
# Digital Tuning PocketLogger
# 2.5" Mandrel Bent Turbo-Back Exhaust w/3" High Flow Cat
# 2G Ported Exhaust Manifold
# Evo O2 Housing
# KYB AGX Adjustable Shocks/Struts
# "Big Brakes" Upgrade
# Front Strut Tower Brace
# A/C Delete
# Cruise Control Delete
It has around 85,000 miles on it and is in pretty good shape. I was thinking of taking it to a performance shop around my way to just get it inspected to make sure that there's nothing wrong with it.
Well, the previous owner said that for me to really make it quicker I need to get it tuned better and that by adding a, I think he said, ECU by APEX and adding a front mount would really help. He say's it's running on about 17 psi normally. I would like to run low 12's with it. He say's it's very attainable with the right parts and tuning of course. I can't wait :D
I really like the sleeper look. It's not loud and annoying like some the riced out civics around my way. I can't stand that. I'm really looking forward to owning it this week and I would appreciate any suggestions on what I should do for improvements or just a simple point in the right direction would be helpful.
Well for now, I will be roaming the newbies sections and using the search bottom quite often.

Hello guys and gals. Well, I don't exactly have a DSM but I am having a 95 GSX soul put into my stock bodied 97 Avenger with the following mods...
3" turboback (Hahn Racecraft 3" dp, Magnaflow highflow cat, dual 3" tip exhaust)
Ported 2G mani
FP big 28
SS oil feed lines
ARP studs
Cometic head gasket
650 Clinic injectors
Accel wires NGK plugs
Intake pipe/filter
Upgraded UICP w/ 1G BOV
Joe P MBC
Centerforce clutch/streetdisc
Shifter bushings
Short shifter
SS clutch line
DSMLink
Walhbro 255 fp
and all the other GSX suspension/brake parts that are included with the swap.
I'm not exactly the first to have this done nor the last but I am the third. The motor is also being rebuilt for the conversion. Anyway, hello to all, I'm sure I'll be seeing everyone sooner or later.

I 'spose I should put my little hello in here. :)
Bought a '95 Talon AWD in early '96. It was red and looked cool with the dark tinted windows. In '98, I moved to the Columbia River gorge and eventually traded it in on a '00 Dakota. AWD does not equal 4x4 ;) Anyway.....It took about a week and I was missing it. Without getting into the psychology of it, I traded the Dakota a year later and got an '01 Ram 2500 V10. :D Yes....I drive it like the Talon. :) Or try to anyway. :D
Well....now I have a stable job with a decent income. Gas prices being what they are and me still missing my baby, I've started looking for another one. I didn't think it would be so hard finding a red '95 Talon AWD, 5spd, leather, and as stock as possible. Oh yeah...found a difference in clothe vs. leather....the hard way. I'm 6'4". A bit large right now, but slimming back down. :)
Did a carfax on my old Talon. Salvage/rebuilt title. Yes...a tear. :(
Anyway...thats my story......and in search of another red '95. ;)
Its good to see a good DSM site. I was a member of another site back in '96 ish, but it doesn't look like there is much going on there lately.

I have a general question that I should post in this part of the forum. I bought a new Cold Air Intake and I want to install it on my Eagle Talon 2.0L DOHC and there is this thing called a Air Pump Check Valve that goes from my exhaust manifold up to my stock air box. Well there isn't a port or hole on my CAI for that to fit so I was wondering what to do with that Air Pump Check Valve. Do I cap it off, or what? And if I do cap it off, how do I cap it off?
I am also buying some headers for my car. Greddy 4 to 1 headers. Has anyone ever put those on their car before? What kind of response did you get from your engine. I am new to the tuning aspect of cars. I just recently got my Eagle Talon and have already changed out the exhaust, to Borla Racing Exhaust, and replaced the shift boot and shift knob. In the process of purchasing a computer chip for the car and I want to move forward with either Underdrive pulleys, or a set of Greddy Headers...
Let me know about the Air Pump Check Valve first. Also does anyone know of place to get a set of installation instructions online for a CAI. I have looked and really been unable to find anything....
Thanks
Michael

Well I'm new to DSMs and to this forum. I bought a 90 Talon TSI AWD about a week ago. I drove and modified a 92 civic hb for a few years and before that I had a 67 Toyota Landcruiser. So the DSM is entirely new for me. I don't know much about it, but I'm already attached to it. My civic feels damn slow now. My TSI is bone stock and in my opinion stock sucks. Here is what I would like to do if you have any ideas on brands or what works best let me know:
short shifter
lowered suspension preferrably adjustable
larger turbo and bov
That is my list for starters. Like I said any advice would be appreciated. :D

First post on this forum, used to posting on a 240 forum and I hope you guys are as awesome as those guys were. I have a 93 Talon DH (had a 1.8 but that's been snatched out already). I went to the junkyard to get a 2.0 n/t motor and they charged me 300 bucks, when i went to pick it up they slipped up and gave me a 2.0 turbo! Then the guy didn't want to get in trouble for pulling the wrong motor so he let me grab the ecu, intercooler, and BOV without talking to the guy up front. The motor is in great condition and I plan to put it in soon. A couple questions though. I know I'm a noob and all but i need to know if a regular n/t 2.0 tourqe converter plate (that triangular thin metal piece that comes off the tranny) will fit into a 1.8 tranny and on a 2.0 turbo block. I believe the bolt patter is the same on the regular 2.0 and 2.0 turbo blocks (the circular plate with 6 bolts in it). And the 1.8 and the 2.0 have the same bolt pattern in the flywheel, the triangular one. I think it will bolt right up if i get one from the dealer (60 bucks). Then all I'll need is a turbo wiring harness (if anyone has one please let me know, 93 if possible). All the mounts line right up, I've checked. The turbo motor is complete so If i wire it up and mount it to the tranny it should be ready to roll. If anyone has anyother advice (like a link maybe because I know this has been covered here somewhere) or direct responses will work too. I'll be checking up on it, thanks for any replies (except for the make fun of the noobie replies!)

Hey every one. I'm kinda new to DSM's, but I've done most of the work on my buddys laser for the last year way too much to list. I picked up a stock 95 Talon TSi AWD about a week ago after I totaled my Turbo'd Spec V that I put way to much time and money in to, but it was running 13.282 @ 110.28mhp in the 1/4 mile. Now I'm hoping to get the Talon in to the 11's with in the next year to year and a half. I hope to learn from everyone here and share what infomation I know.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe Type-R stickers on a DSM will put out at least 7.65 whp and that number jumps to 24.55 whp if you have them on both sides :D
Hmmm... I think "Type-R" stickers only increase horsepower on Hondas and Acuras. You may want to put "VR4", "GS-T", "GSX", "EVO" or "RalliArt" stickers on a base model DSM for more power. Adding "GT-R" and "Spec-R" stickers to my 240SX put down so much power I had to take the stickers off to restore driveability (I don't have the AWD traction advantages most you guys have).... ;)

What's up. I actually just found this forum recently and have already gotten a great deal of info from it. Great bunch of guys/girls. I have had my 91 eclipse 2wd turbo for about a year and a half now. Build up has been a slow proccess though (cash flow).
I've heard of using a 2g mas with 550cc injecters. my question is if that mod requires the use of timing control or if people have been performed this mod without any major timing concerns (other than maybe retarding the cam position sensor). Thanks for your help and feed-back.

heya, im writing this with real panic, after read and see all the rules and the order in this forum but I like it and agree with them
My problem is in searching, before shoot the question to the masters i get lost searching and dont find in the FAQ'S VAQ'S the solution. ill keep searching.
Well is that i need information about the gear ratios, and trannys, to get documented to shoot the real tecnical question i'm not mechanic, but i make my AWD eagle talon Upper 92 from Automatic to Standar, the tranny is from Galant i use his trasnf case.
But i get loked the rear weels at 65mph. not crash by luck, i run it before the weels get loket at 90mph for first time after the swap...
Is a info that i can read? about the correct trasnfer or correct rear diff that I need to match. i read about splines22 ect but any information clear for me.
And how fiind out and identifie them, because i don't see part numbers on xfer or rear Diff, only in the Tranny
Thanks for all the help..
Forgive my grammar i speak spanish most the time...

Maybe nobody wants to be an idiot and post any dumb questions. Good luck with with new section.
ok, ill start right off with the obvious, i've been a DSM owner for all of 2 weeks, and ive searched this whole site over like 4 times now haha... My favorite car model is the '98 Eclipse. I currently own a 91 laser rs, soon to be turbo... i've got a question on the upgrade, what other parts do i need when upgrading to a turbo?
I'm new to the whole " do it yourself" type stuff, but im definately up for learning as much on this car before i buy the new eclipse in a year or so. I've got plenty of friends with knowledge of foreign 4-cylinder engines who more thatn gladly help with questions i have, but those are japanese 240 engines.. so im sure your help is more exact because we share the same.. well everything.. haha so thanks for the help all information is welcome.. :D

ok ok ok Here we go I have A chance to buy A 93 Talon tsi with many mods went and looked at it, it has A race intercooler, bigger turbo, 650 injectors not installed , head work done by sheppler racing, toyota supra fuel pump, 2 1/2"exhaust, evo manifold, ported evo down pipe Ect.. ect... ect.... It has only been driven for 10k since he purchased it 4yrs ago I didnt want him to start it because the fuel pump sending housing was leaking the last time it was driven was last summer (plates expired 03/04) is there anything to look for that may tip me off to some issues or problems, also what do you guys think A fair price would be? it does need A battery A new fuel pump sending unit, passenger seat, right front fender replaced (included in sale but not installed) body has 114k engine has 43k, tire have tread but they are dry rotted.... any Idea what she would be worth? or should I invest what I have into another vehicle and make the ole payment thing........
Well had a DSM in some form or another since 98, haven't been able to shake the bug since. I work for a respected shop here in the dallas area i will with hold the name as not to get people IM'ing me asking me a bunch of questions. Well that's pretty much it i'm not good at these whole introduce yourself things.

Hi
I've been a long time lurker on this website and I finally decided to register... I've owned a 1992 eclipse gs which is stock besides the audio I've been using it as my daily driver for about a year and a half. I also just picked up 1990 gsx that Im looking to turn it into a nice all aorund street car. I'm hoping to evetually run consistent low 13s safely (High 12s would be nice) I also really want to improve the handling for those canyon runs to the beach.
about the gsx.... right now the car runs strong the drivetrain and motor have been rebuilt with in the last 8K. It is stock besides a ported 2g exhuast manifold with suposedly ported 14b (according to the previous owner but I have my doubts). The car been completly gutted except for seats of course. All the a/c and heat components have been removed and I converted the power windows to manual.

Well I have a question, I am completely new to the world of customization and don't know a turbo from a supercharger........well I have a 99 eclipse and I love it it is a wonderfull vehicle but it is an RS. I have a dream for this vehicle and I want to accomplish it. I want to start by putting and AIT Veilside body kit on it. I checked with my local shop and they said that the price to do it can be expensive, that I don't mind my car is like a female sometimes, worth the money, you know? but yeah the question. Is this a good kit and should I expect heavy modifications from the bodyshop? where can I learn about engine modifications, such as turbo hp upgrades, chrome engine accessories and such. I don't want to spend wasted money for a screwed up project. I'm a starter and can get screwed easily if I don't have the right knowledge.
Preciate any guidance from you more experienced persons out there. Thanks
Stephen

I guess this is where you introduce yourself so...hi. I am teh Skrapper.
I have a 92 eclipse that came w/a 1.8L engine and I did the 6 bolt 4g63 swap about 4 years ago, and I have about 20K on my mostly NAPA parts rebuild. I have had the car for 8 years so I am not new to DSM's.
Last year the car ran a 12.9 @112 with 295 whp on Falken Azenis with a small 16g with stock cams. 2.2 60ft> me.
After that I threw an evo3 16g and dynoed that at 323 whp on a Dyno Dynamics dyno on pump gas.
This year, it is Kelford cams and maybe a 50trim along with more supporting mods.

Hi! I'm a newby, I got my tsi this summur and i've been lovin it since! I use to drive a seriously modified jeep and I was crazy about that car to. It wasn't fast enough to race a honda civic, but it had big enough tires to run over it!!!! This awd passion has led me to the Eagle talon tsi and i'm proud to be new owner.
All this being said, I just had my first official brake down this morning at 7H45 before I was supposed to go work... F...
I noticed the car always as serious trouble starting when ever its cold, any ideas???

well as far as the site is conserned, i ama "newbie" but i dont think that really applies to my situation. i bought my first dsm in 2001 and i have been very into it and all about it i consider myself pretty educated on dsm info stats history and tuning. i admit there are some things i just dont know and that is why i joined this site and because i simply didnt know that it was around until resently. but i must say it has been very helpful and i find myself spending hours upon hours on this site reading and learning everything possible. so i would like to say on behalf of myself and other "newbies" thanks alot for this site and that all you guys are great.

My car is a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST. My mods are as follows: Injen intake, greddy type-s bov, free mods, fal slimline fans, and DSMLink. I've got a giant list at home that I want to do to this car. My goal is 550 hp and at least 10s 1/4 miles. Wish me luck. Until next time...

Thanks for the welcome. :) I'm kinda new to DSM's but not to cars (I was in high school during the muscle car era), and not to car messageboards (I'm on a few Fbody boards). I bought my daughter a used '98 Eclipse GS-T (A'pexi exhaust, Injen intake) about 6 months ago , so I'm lurking and learning. This looks like a pretty good site.

Hi, my name's Jon, and I'm a DSMaholic... I've had two of these bitches, and love em, even when the knock-count is smacking me in the face, the lifters are talking back like rowdy hookers to a drunk pimp, and the timing gets pulled to the point that I want to scream.
A way back ex g/f had a 92 Eclipse when it was a couple years old, and since then I've been drooling like a passed out drunk at the bar with a shot in his hand.
I've done some retarded things to the ride (like auto cams in a manual trannied car), and also had some fun cursing the timing belt, the lame alternator pulley/tensioning system, the rusty friggin nut at the fuel pump, screaming at a frozen hub that didn't budge under twelve tons of pressure, etc, etc...
But I'd do it all again.
Now for the question:
Anybody have a clue on how to get the lifters to shut the f@ck up?

Well, this is one of my first posts and I would like to thank you for the welcome. I am currently coming from the world of the MKIII Supra. It seems to be in a world of its own. im new here, just bought my car today, 95 GS, couple of mods but nothin too special, just enough to make sure no dam honda screamin "MY VTEC WILL ANNHILATE YOU" will be just watchin a white flash. hehe, sry, im nota honda hater, im just sick of seein every mexican (i live in northern colorado, im not bein racist at all, just im white, to every white guy up here, theres 5 mexicans, and they all drive hondas and think theyre the shit and then some) so im not racist, ive just been dealin with this crap for too long lol. anyways, my main question since i bought the car used and didnt have enough for a full diagnostic, i smelled that she was burnin oil, but not leakin any at all. so i popped the hood and theres oil on the block, which i assume is from a shitty oil change from someone who cant make a funnel out of some news paper =P. but if the oil proceeds to burn but not leak, im thinkin maybe a seal ?? also, i guess my main question would be wat are the main things i should look at to see if i need to replace or check on ?? the car is a 95 GS, 122k on the chasis, 22k on the rebuilt engine. it was rebuilt at a speed shop here in CO, im waitin on the parts list. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I am a newb here...
My name is Keith. I am 38 (and no, that is not a typo). I have a 93 Laser with the 4g37 1.8l that is my daily driver and she will soon be undergoing a transformation into a rallycross car to go along with its daily driver duties (albeit with mud being flung out at unsuspecting commuters on I-66)
Right now the mods are pretty basic - K&N air filter, bodged together intake, and Magnecor wires. She rides on 205/55-16 Hankooks wrapped around 16 x 7 rims. The mods will stay pretty basic - just going to upgrade the suspension (see if there is any way to add some travel) and make the exhaust breath a little bit better.
I've had a lot of cars since I started driving when I was 12...er...I mean 15 and this Laser is amongst the most fun cars that I've driven. Handles great for a FWD car, the 1.8l isn't bad, and the fuel economy is great.
I am also looking for a 1990 - 1991 DSM to turn into another rallycross car.
Cheers!
Keith

Hey guys, i'm a newbie...or dumbass, whatever you'd care to say, lol. Anyways, i'm 19 years old, just picked up a '92 TSI AWD for $500 off a buddy of mine. Its blown up, so i'm in the process of tearin it down and figuring out what can go, and what can stay. First thing i'm doing is replacing all of my hoses, vaccum lines, radiator, alternator, battery, plugs and wires, timing belt and pulley, idle pulley(i think thats what its called, i'm waiting on my Chilton's repair manual in the mail!!!). The way i see it, theres no point in "go fast" parts before replacing my car's 15 year old vital parts. My goal is to have it on the road by this coming May. I work 2 part time jobs, the second just to buy DSM parts, lol. My girlfriend of 2 years has been very supportive, which makes my journey MUCH easier. After my engine is fresh, running well, and tuned, many "go fast" parts will find their way onto it. I have an older Ford Ranger that is my daily driver, so this will be a weekend car. I'm looking to run somewhere in the high 12s/low 13s when all is said and done. I know it's gonna take me a while, but its something i know i can do. I bought my DSM to be my own backyard mechanic, from the motor install, to the upgrades, to the tuning, everything. Thanks everyone for your help, and let me know if anything on my rambling post sounds incorrect...

Hello all, I am a newbie and have already been flamed on in a forum for a mistake..lol.. I love the site, it is alot nicer than some that I have been on..lol:) My name is Carla and I own a 1990 Eclipse GST manual.. She is an DD so I am keeping her pretty stock. She has a few after market items on her, but not to much.. When we first bought her the turbo didn't work, so my hubby fixed it. 3 days later, she was at the shop with a cracked head. The exhaust manifold bolt stud had broke and cracked the head causing a coolant leak. So she spent 3 weeks in the shop till we were able to get a new one. Then a week after we got her back she went into the tranny shop for normal tranny and clutch work.. Later down the road we replace the water pump and after getting her back from the shop then, it didn't seem like she had as much power, guess what happened next...? She blew the head gusket on the way the hubby was surprising me by bring her to me at work..So she sat for a while till we decided whether we were gonna keep her or sell her. I couldn't get rid of here..So we waited till we moved into the house we were building and on my birthday, we decided to rebuild her motor.. So we did.. Along with some love and a few up grades, here she is.. You might as well say she is a whole new car.. Almost everything has been replaced or is getting replaced..Slowly.. Here is a picture for you to see my old girl..I hope you like her..;)

It's needs a lot of work, I don't think the person who did the swap really knew what he was doing, so hopefully everyone here will be able to help me get this thing running good. Thats about it.

Hello all. New to these boards. I'm Eddie and I am 30 years old, live in Pensacola Florida and have a 1997 Eagle Talon TSi (non daily driver). I dont drag race the car I am more of a road racer and auto-crosser. We actually just got back from Talladega Gran Prix for an event. Loads of fun. Rained a little but no big deal there. I autocross twice a month and hit road circuts about once a month or so. Just wanted to stop by and say whats up to everyone. Boards looks great and I already learned a few things with the 7 day buffer period. Look forward to talking to you guys here. :)

I'm fairly new to the car scene, since i used to have a jeep.

Hi. I'm a noob, :p. I have a 2000 Mirage with a 4G63T swapped in it. I did the swap about 7 months ago, stuff starting to poop out on me now. So i'll be here lurking in the shadows trying to find out how i can fix some stuff, or maybe just a little easier. I also have a 240sx witch is my beast of a DD with a 1JZ swapped.

I am new here as well. I just picked up a 1994 Eclipse with the 4G37 and standard shift. I have been on the forums here pretty much every day and night in my seven day lurker period (haha) and I decided I wanted to go with a turbo 2.0. So, the other day I struck a deal with a friend of mine to trade my dirtbike for one of his parts cars, a 1992 Eclipse. It has the 4G63 N/A engine but will have all of the parts for me to do the complete N/A swap hopefully. Anyways I will try and keep it short and just say great site and a ton of useful information! See you at my first newbie bashing! :D

First, welcome to all of our new members. Hope you enjoy it here and if you need help with anything forum related don't hesitate to PM or email us.
Second, some of you know that Red and Rippin are now mods in this forum so you better make sure to watch for that rule #7 violation because I know for a fact that both of them are cracking down on that like crazy. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please read over our rules.
Lastly, please everyone take some time to read over the rules and familiarize yourself with them. It'll save you all some trouble in the long run.

Hey Everyone, I just bought my first DSM, a 95 gst. I managed to score it for a clean 1,900 CND :D It needs some minor repairs, headlamp, cross member, screws to hold the shift linkage in place  but other than the body is good and she is ready to go. I plan on modifying the car this winter and using my honda for my winter beater. Yes I own a honda its sad. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and thanks in advance for the help that I am going to receive and definitely need.

Hey everyone, I'm new here (been stalking for a while though). Bought a 91 GSX :). The exterior is in bad condition, but the engine seemed in good condition from looking/driving/service records. Interior is great! Bad CV joints and a bad throttle position sensor though. Getting the sensor on wednesday, pin 2 on the old one is screwed, only shows resistance between it and pin 4 when you push hard on it XD. Love me some vfaq.

i'll check in.
i'm dexter.
i'm on a ton of forums. people from dsmtuners will know me as "anubis" (i'd love to change my s/n, but no one will let me), i'm a dsm guru on midsm.com and i'm also on other dsm/4g63 forums.
i'm a huge car guy and am on a bunch of other forums for nissans, csms, and local forums as well.
i'm mostly a lurker on dsmtalk because it wouldn't let me sign-up for a few years and i kind of hold that against it.
Whats up guys Im a newbie to this forum but not to dsms. I have a 91 tsi awd. With a 2.3 stroker and a stage 4 head engine that I built myself. Yep one of those DIYers

Sal,
Thanks for the welcome. [if you're still here that is].
I'm not a DSM newb, but new to this site. I was active at the old talon digest, but when it died, I got away from the net, as fars as dsm.
We sold our '95 awd Talon a while back, and I looked for a long time for a Spyder. Found a nice 26K mile '99, which I'll be "modding" soon. I have been busy with other projects [bikes and a TT512" chevy pickup], and I need to catch up on the dsm stuff.
Thanks.

Rev,
LOL. At least they aren't history. Some are painted, surely.
I have to get one on "our" Spyder for the spring. Wife has claimed it as her "fun car", but I get to drive it sometimes.
I need to "study up" on the best deals as far as turbos, exhaust, fuel pumps etc. It'll be mild. I have a used Hahn sidemount, but little else so far.
Thanks.

posted a few times in the audio section, and I check the site out from time to time. I want to get a 2g eclipse or talon, but as of right now, no funding. (just wrecked my 3rd gen. GTS). so....yea, hopefully I'll get one soon. Makes it kind of hard to look for one though with the fifty post thing...especially for people like me who actually search for the answers I'm looking for... o well :D

alright nooblet question time. i just bought a 95 fwd eagle talon with low miles on it. like everyone else on this site i love it, and lets just say i bought an exhaust from Greddy and i love it even more. Now my question is a lame one because i can find the anwser myself but you guys know much more about dsm and iam lazy to be honest. i would like to make my car close to a 10-11 second car i know traction will be an issue but i'd just like some ideas as to what parts could help me come closer to my goal . thanks for the time and happy holidays
