I am looking to get a nice set of gauges for a fair price and am leaning tords the DEFI D's. I just have one question the boost gauge is mechanical. What are the advantages and/or disadvantages compaired to electrical.
Thanks

The boost gauge is fine just use a mechanical one. Unless you really feel like spending a lot more money for some odd reason and going electrical. With electrical your gonna have more work to do, more wiring, etc. The D-Series gauges are good.

I used to use an Autometer boost gauge. Now I have the Defi D-gauge. I definately feel the Defi gauge is more responsive and accurate!

There are times when I wished I had an electric peak/hold gauge, heck I may even swap mine out. Its nice to know what boost your peaking at to see if your spiking or creeping. Its a PITA for me to look at the EGT gauge, RPM gauge and Boost gauge when tuning. If had it to do over again I would have spent the extra bucks for a peak and hold. Just my .02 cents.

Its just that when going with an electrical gauge you usually have a few more user functions. Most will have a peak hold feature, some have an LED or some kind of a warning lamp feature, some have a playback mode of your last run. With mechanical gauges they usually only do what they were intended to do......meaning monitoring boost/ vaccume, EGT's, etc. They dont have the features like the electrical gauges. Just remember that electrical gauges do come at a price though. More $$$$'s, more wiring, etc. Are they worth it????? Only you can answer that question. If your going to utilize the features that electrical gauges provide then I would say get them. You can never monitor your engine too much.

The defi egt gauges are the only ones I saw that go to 2100 f, not celcius like greddy etc. But if someone never had a egt gauge the conversion factor wouldn't matter looking at celcius.
