I have seen many Talons and eclipse that have like a hump on the drivers side in the hood. Does that mean that those cars come with turbo?

I hope, for your sake, you're kidding. I'll be nice though, the hump is for the timing belt clear the hood.

No, it doesn't mean they have a turbo... you need to do some research.

The only "humpless" eclipses I know of are the 3G ones. :dunno:

Sorry but there are humpless DSMs. For a while in 1990 the non-turbo DSMs had a hood with no hump. Then someone figured that they can save money manufacturaing only 1 hood and so that's what they did. So you will see some humpless 1990s out there.

That is why this is in the Newbies forum. There aren't supposed to be any stupid questions in here. We all have to start learning somewhere, no?

Oh come on Eric. Nothings better than having to go to a Newbie forum to show you read something first:rolleyes: :D

All the vented hood 2gs you see that have no hood are either the non turbo's (420A motor), or turbo'd and have part of the hood inner cut out for the tb cover to clear the hood.;)

I never read which forum it was on, I just clicked on it under the "Latest Active... " on the main page. I'm still getting used to the newbie forum, I just noticed it yesterday :(

I appologize.

For the record, that's the 1.8 non-turbos. The fitment problem was with all 4g63s.

i am nearly postive my buddy 1990 GS with the NT 4G63 had no "power bulge" im going to find some pics and get the VIN to verify it was a not a 1.8l but i dont know that Mits had them that year thought it was only the talon and Laser that had the 1.8 that year...but i am nearly 100% it was a 90 with 4g63 NT manufacture date 11-89

Nope. If it's got a flat hood, Mitsu part # MB549815, then it's a 1.8L built before 6-2-91. The "power bulge" hood's # is MB549816, and it comes for all 89-91 4g63-powered Eclipses.

Think about it this way - if they had clearance issues with the timing belt cover of a turbo motor, why wouldn't they have problems with the n/t? They use the same mounts. Nothing in that area has moved at all.

All the 1.8ltr. base model Eclipses and Lasers from 90' to 91' came with the humpless hood. But... (There's always a but:D)

Some 1.8ltr. cars came with the hump hood...

ok, because i own one of the cars without the "power bulge" ill fill you guys in :D the "89"-91 DSMs with the 1.8l engine were the only ones that dont have the bulge (although i havent seen a talon dl in an early 1g without a hump). there are 1.8l gs's they are the same as the base model but they have nicer seats and a rear window wiper (i wish i had one of those sometimes). and for all of you that are having a hard time imagining a humpless eclipse heres a link to my gallery:

-Jeff proud owner of a 1.8l turd...maybe soon it wont be so slow, well see.

it might not be mean but it sounds mean, i just had a guy in a gst spyder ask me if it was turbo, i said no and he wanted to go for fun and he really wasn't that fast...one day he will actually tune that damn car....hopefully:rolleyes:

Slow, try owning a 1g Eclipse GS with an A/T. my first car i drove and eventually bought has a 4-speed M/T. With on 1.6L, SOHC, and 12 valves, this thing scooted. My GS feels like I'm driving my sister K-car.
