Driving home from my friends house tonight, after shopping around for a new car for him, I noticed my oil light come on and I had no throttle response. Two seconds later, all my dashboard lights came on and the engine cut off. I coasted into a driveway. The engine cranks strong but won't turn over so I rule out that the battery is the issue. Checked the oil. It was a little low but not alarmingly low. I topped the oil off just to be sure but it still won't start. The weather is a bit cold tonight. I'd guess in the twenties. Initial thought: Timing belt. It's due soon anyway. I didn't hear anything break so that's a good sign, hopefully! Two months ago I had a torque converter go on me, but the car would still run when that went so I doubt that to be the issue either. I won't know for sure what happened until I get it in the garage but if anyone has any ideas, please share.

So I checked out my car today. After reading through my manual I had two thoughts. Number one was still the timing belt and two was the crank sensor. Turns out that it is the timing belt. So until I can get it into the garage, I'm stuck with the little old Metro.

That's exactly what happened to me when my timing belt went. Problem was I was goin about 80 around some hard turns right before it happened, so I got a little worried to say the least. And as it's always said about timing belts, at least your valves didn't suffer;)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the valves are ok.

I had to sit for over half an hour in the freezing cold for the tow truck to arrive. Twice in less then four months I have had major car issues. The car has been good for two full years and then all this happened. Hopefully the worst is behind me! (knock on wood)
